Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 554 - 544: Hugh Finch’s News
"When did you go out? Never mind, that’s not important. Dinner’s ready. Hurry back and eat. Also, Kai York and I have already picked our items. If you don’t have your eye on any of the remaining ones, we’ll just draw lots."
After hearing Shane Rhodes’s words, Moira Lynch subconsciously nodded, then shook her head. "I can’t come back right now. I accepted a mission and I’m in the middle of it. As for the items, you guys go ahead and pick. I’ll take whatever is left."
Hearing that Moira Lynch was on a mission, Shane Rhodes frowned. "What kind of mission? Is it dangerous? Why didn’t you tell us?"
"It’s just an ordinary mission, a rescue type. It’s not dangerous, and the pay is good. I was in a hurry when I left, so I didn’t get to tell you," Moira Lynch explained.
Hearing this, Shane Rhodes didn’t press any further. He knew Moira Lynch knew what she was doing.
"When will this mission be over, roughly?"
"Three days if it’s quick, five if it’s slow."
"Okay. Be careful."
After hanging up the video call, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.
’I felt like a kid caught misbehaving by their parents.’
Two words: "Adrenaline rush."
After exiting the call interface, Moira Lynch saw dozens of messages in her inbox, all from Shane Rhodes and the other two.
It was just that Moira Lynch’s attention had been focused on the old man, and Patience had also been monitoring his condition, so she hadn’t noticed.
Opening the messages, she saw that Shane Rhodes and Kai York were both asking where she was and telling her to come home for dinner.
But Hugh Finch’s messages...
Moira Lynch looked at the messages Hugh Finch had sent:
[Hugh Finch: The game system just contacted me. It said it couldn’t reach you, so it came to me instead and told me some things.]
[Hugh Finch: When are you coming back?]
[Hugh Finch: I can’t talk about the system stuff through the Intelligent Brain or the system itself. I’ll wait for you to get back.]
Seeing the words "game system," perhaps due to a woman’s sixth sense, a bad feeling suddenly welled up inside Moira Lynch.
Her intuition told her that whatever Hugh Finch had to say was probably no small matter.
Moira Lynch took a deep breath.
’No matter what it is, it’s not as important as what’s happening right now.’
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps came from outside.
Hearing the sound, Moira Lynch turned her head and saw a young man jogging in from outside, an anxious look on his face.
But at that moment, Moira Lynch’s gaze wasn’t on the young man himself, but rather on what was behind him.
Trailing behind the young man was a thick tail covered in pale blue scales, which gleamed with a faint blue light under the lamps, looking quite magnificent.
As soon as the young man entered the room, he saw the old man enveloped in white flames. His face instantly turned pale with shock, and he shouted, "Grandpa!"
Then, with an anxious expression, he tried to rush over.
As the young man passed Moira Lynch, she stealthily stuck out a foot.
The young man, whose attention was entirely focused on his grandfather, naturally didn’t notice. The next second, his chiseled face had an intimate encounter with the floor.
At that moment, more urgent footsteps were heard from behind, and the butler ran in from outside, panting.
Seeing the young man groaning on the floor, he understood in an instant what had just happened.
"Young Master, are you all right?"
The young man was carefully helped up, leaving a small pool of bright red blood on the floor.
And from the young man’s face, two streams of blood were still flowing endlessly from his nose.
However, the young man clearly wasn’t concerned about this. He turned and asked the butler, "Grandpa Butler, what’s wrong with my grandpa? And who is this person?"
As he spoke, the young man pointed at Moira Lynch, glaring fiercely at her.
’The girl in front of him looked even younger than he was, like she wasn’t even an adult. Could she be a newly acknowledged granddaughter of Grandpa’s?’
Seeing that Moira Lynch bore none of their clan’s characteristic traits, the young man didn’t let his guard down. After all, with today’s advanced technology, some traits could be faked.
In the young man’s mind, he had already decided that Moira Lynch was a blood relative Grandpa had acknowledged from some illegitimate child out there.
’She’s probably here because she knows Grandpa’s condition is bad and wants a piece of the inheritance.’
’Hmph, I’ve seen plenty of people like her. I’ll never let her succeed.’
’Still, I have to admit, those people got a lot smarter this time. The person they chose is completely Grandpa’s type.’
’If this had been before, Grandpa would probably have been very happy to have a granddaughter like this around.’
’Too bad she’s a step too late.’
Moira Lynch wasn’t aware of the convoluted thoughts running through the young man’s mind, but she could clearly feel his hostility toward her.
’Thinking about what I just did... okay, I probably deserve the animosity.’
If Moira Lynch knew what the young man was really thinking, she would have patted him on the shoulder and said earnestly, "Look, buddy, I’m not your grandpa’s granddaughter. But you’re not wrong about one thing—I am indeed here to fight you people for the inheritance."
The butler, realizing the young man had misunderstood something, quickly explained, "This is Miss Lynn. The master invited her here. She’s a Healing Mage and is currently treating the master."
He then turned to Moira Lynch to introduce the young man. "This is the master’s grandson, Young Master Wing. The young master was just overly concerned about the master’s condition. If he has offended you in any way, please don’t take it to heart."
Although the old butler knew that Moira Lynch hadn’t actually become a real Healing Mage yet, he still introduced her as one.
After all, to Moira Lynch, "Healing Mage" was just a title. Not to mention, with her healing skills, whether she was officially a Healing Mage or not was completely irrelevant.
In fact, if people on the outside learned of her existence and her ability, countless individuals would try to recruit her.
When Wing heard the old butler’s introduction, his eyes filled with bewilderment and shock. "A Healing Mage?"
’Her? A minor? You’ve got to be kidding me.’
Although Wing didn’t say the rest out loud, Moira Lynch could still read his thoughts.
With a faint smile, she said, "I’m an adult."
Having his thoughts seen through, Wing was a little embarrassed, feeling like someone who’d been caught talking badly about a person behind their back.
To avoid any further awkwardness, Wing turned to look at his grandfather, who was still engulfed in flames, and asked curiously, "What kind of newfangled treatment is this? The Fire Attack Method? Why are the talents of you Healing Mages all so weird? It’s either bloodletting or enemas, or even rolling around in the mud. Don’t you have any normal healing methods?"
"There are, but they’re slower. You should be well aware of your grandfather’s condition. He’s got one foot in the grave. If I don’t use some potent medicine, how am I supposed to snatch him back from the Lord of Hell?" Moira Lynch said with a deadpan expression.
