Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 388 - 378: Management Mode
After getting everything ready, Moira Lynch finally clicked "Log In."
The next moment, a flash of white light flared before her eyes.
When she opened her eyes again, a familiar scene greeted her.
’Isn’t this the Snow Maiden’s residence? Why did the game send me here?’
’Logically, shouldn’t new players start in the Newbie Village?’
However, Moira Lynch soon found the answer on the Astranet.
Some *Divine Soul* employees, after incidentally obtaining internal game slots, had posted their experiences on the Astranet to show off.
They mentioned that logging in with an internal slot was different from logging in with a regular one.
Regular players appeared in the Newbie Village, while players with internal slots would not, as they also possessed an NPC identity.
Moira Lynch had chosen the identity of the Snow Maiden, so after entering the game, she spawned in the Snow Maiden’s residence in the Northlands.
If she had chosen the village chief’s daughter, she probably would have woken up in the village chief’s house.
Moira Lynch checked her level. It was a pitiful Level 1.
But below it was a line of small text, stating that under specific circumstances, she could resume the identity of the Snow Maiden.
’The "specific circumstances" must refer to this icy and snowy environment, just like right now.’
Although she was just a puny Level 1 weakling, her Attributes were terrifyingly high.
However, this state had one major downside: she couldn’t level up by killing mobs while it was active.
If it weren’t for this restriction, she could farm all the bosses in the Northlands, big and small. It wouldn’t take long for her to catch up to the top-tier players.
"What a shame, what a shame."
She had just checked the Snow Maiden’s skills; any single one of them was on a cataclysmic level.
In order to level up, Moira Lynch had to leave the Northlands as quickly as possible.
Half an hour later, Moira Lynch appeared in a village.
The extravagant outfit she was wearing disappeared, replaced by a simple newbie Magic Robe and a dusty-gray newbie Magic Wand.
Because the Snow Maiden leaned more towards being a Mage, Moira Lynch’s current class was also Mage.
This was all standard-issue gear for new players, but there’s a saying: comparison is the thief of joy.
After having worn the Snow Maiden’s magnificent equipment, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but feel disgusted by her current newbie gear.
’Still, this has its upsides. At least my identity is safe.’
Players with internal slots could obtain quests from other NPCs more easily and could even issue quests themselves, as they also possessed an NPC identity.
So whenever such a person appeared, the end result was either having their account forcibly "bought" from them or joining a major power and working for it.
As the saying goes, the innocent man gets into trouble for the treasure he carries. Moira Lynch just wanted to enjoy the game and not get involved. After all, matters on Caelus were already more than enough to keep her busy.
Seeing no one around, Moira Lynch quickly found a corner and checked her information.
Nickname: Moira Lynch
Class: Mage
Level: 1
Experience Value: 0/100
Life Value: 100/100
Mana value: 100/100
Physical Strength: 100/100
Hidden Skill: Snow Maiden. When the temperature reaches minus sixty degrees, the power of the Snow Maiden within you will awaken.
This power is extremely potent. Please use with caution.
Moira Lynch promptly ignored the warning. She was just here to play a game and relax, not turn it into a career. ’So, just having some fun is good enough.’
With this mindset, Moira Lynch began her journey in the game.
She used to play games often. With the stress from work, gaming was one of her few outlets. However, she mostly played management-type games—simple, easy to get into, and not very difficult.
After arriving on Caelus, the apocalypse had followed, and she was so busy she never had a moment’s rest. It had been a long time since she had touched a game.
She had done quests in the game not long ago, but she didn’t have time to properly experience it.
Now that she could relax, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but marvel. As expected of a Holographic Game, every blade of grass and every tree was uncannily realistic. Even the sense of touch was so authentic that if you weren’t told, you would never know it was all fake.
The game had many modes. Moira Lynch thought it over. She wasn’t good at combat and was playing to relax, so she ultimately chose the management mode she was most familiar with.
But before that, she needed to buy a plot of land as her base of operations for farming and opening a shop.
Then came the problem. Buying land required money, and right now, Moira Lynch was completely and utterly broke.
Recalling her previous experience working in the game, she thought, ’Maybe I should try making a few items.’
Back when she was the village chief’s daughter, the player who received the item couldn’t wipe the grin off his face.
Putting her plan into action, Moira Lynch first researched how to make money in the game.
Besides getting Gold Coins from killing monsters, the fastest way to make money here was probably selling equipment.
A good set of equipment could easily sell for an astronomical price.
Seeing this filled Moira Lynch with confidence. Her goal wasn’t high; she had just checked the price of land in the shop, and the cheapest plot cost 20,000 Game Coins. She’d just aim for a modest 20,000.
She grabbed a random piece of wood from nearby and carved it into the shape of a ring.
But just as she was about to apply an Enchantment, a notification suddenly appeared before her.
[Warning: Material Attributes are too low. Cannot be enchanted.]
Seeing this notification, Moira Lynch was dumbfounded. ’What does "Material Attributes are too low" even mean?’
It was then that Moira Lynch remembered: the wooden plank she had found at the village chief’s house had been very different from an ordinary one.
It shimmered with a golden luster, like Golden Silkwood.
After figuring this out, Moira Lynch didn’t give up right away. Instead, she continued to search for other materials. ’If all else fails, I’ll just have to make a trip back to the village chief’s house.’
She remembered carving a ring and two bracelets from that plank, and there was still a lot of it left.
While searching for materials, she occasionally came across a newly-spawned wild monster. Moira Lynch dispatched them with ease, and they dropped a few Game Coins, as well as some beast hides and meat.
Moira Lynch stayed in the game for a full two hours, only logging out after Patience reminded her of the time.
When she emerged from the game pod, the sky outside was already completely dark.
"Is it my imagination, or is the fog outside getting thicker?"
"According to the logic of TV shows and movies, there should be some kind of dangerous monster hiding in this white fog."
