Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 387 - 377: Entering the Game Again
This time, however, Moira Lynch wasn’t scared.
Just then, the little white snake on Hugh Finch’s shoulder slowly opened its eyes. Its large, watery eyes were bright and spirited, incredibly beautiful.
After glancing around, the little white snake instantly locked its gaze on Kai York, who was sitting on the other side of the sofa.
After yesterday’s bite, a feud had officially been declared between man and snake.
"Let me tell you, you only managed to ambush me yesterday because I was careless. If you try that again, I’ll really turn you into snake soup."
Kai York’s words were vicious, but they clearly had no intimidating effect on the little white snake.
The little white snake looked at Kai York and bared its two sharp fangs, its threat completely undisguised.
Seeing this, Kai York looked at Hugh Finch with a woeful expression. "Can’t you control your pet? The bite mark on my butt still hasn’t faded! Besides, I don’t think I did anything to offend it, so why is it so hostile toward me?"
At that moment, Moira Lynch quietly added, "A Spiritual Body is a reflection of its master’s truest self. People can fake their emotions, but a Spiritual Body cannot."
"Since the little white snake is so hostile toward you, that must mean..."
Hearing this, Hugh Finch’s expression stiffened, and he guiltily averted his gaze.
Moira Lynch didn’t finish her sentence, but Kai York wasn’t an idiot. It was impossible for him not to understand the implication.
While Kai York and Hugh Finch were locked in their standoff, Moira Lynch suddenly felt a cool sensation on the back of her hand.
She looked down and saw the little white snake looking up at her with its head raised.
"Do you want to play with me?"
A newborn Spiritual Body is like a baby, its mind still immature.
The little white snake first nodded, then shook its head.
Although human and Spiritual Body couldn’t communicate, Moira Lynch understood its meaning. She waved her hand and summoned Snowy.
Although Snowy had already passed its juvenile stage and entered its permanent stage, it was still just a child at heart.
So, the two Spiritual Bodies quickly began playing together.
Shane Rhodes walked out of the kitchen, carrying a bowl of spicy pepper soup.
The scent of the spicy pepper soup made a wave of hunger wash over her.
She hadn’t felt it just a moment ago, but now she felt hungry enough to eat a horse.
Arriving at the dining table, Moira Lynch ate her spicy pepper soup. Beside it were two freshly prepared soft-boiled eggs.
While eating, she opened the game forums.
Unsurprisingly, the game forums were completely filled with posts about the game pods.
"LOL, just a few hours ago the [flrst] store was acting all high and mighty, with a ’take it or leave it’ attitude. Now they’ve had it blow up in their face so fast."
"They thought they were the only ones, but then the master SoySauceDrunkard turned around and brought out the exact same game pods. And not just pods, but headsets and wristbands too."
"Gotta say, SoySauceDrunkard is so considerate. They knew we couldn’t afford the pods, so they specially prepared cheaper headsets and wristbands."
"Didn’t someone say SoySauceDrunkard’s game pods are all defective? Will there be problems using them?"
"Hey, person above me, did you even read properly? The defects are all cosmetic. How does that even count as a defect?"
"Besides, the [flrst] store’s pods are all identical. Some of the master SoySauceDrunkard’s pods are even custom models."
"Who the heck is buying all these expensive game pods? Why can’t I ever manage to snag one?!"
"Buying game pods for a high price! Buying game pods for a high price! Must be a custom model, don’t bother me with the standard ones."
By the time Moira Lynch finished her meal while reading these comments, she saw that three new game pods had appeared behind her.
In the end, Kai York had chosen a game pod after all.
In his words, it was better to "go all in from the start."
Seeing this, Moira Lynch pretended to place an order too.
A few minutes later, the number of game pods in the living room went from three to four.
As Kai York eagerly prepared to try out his game pod, Moira Lynch suddenly noticed something outside the window.
She only just realized that the world outside was a blanket of white, obscuring everything. "When did this fog appear?"
"I think it started last night. The base already issued a warning, telling people not to leave their homes unless necessary. The fog itself isn’t harmful, but visibility outside is extremely low, so it’s easy to get into an accident. Even the snow-clearing work has been completely handed over to robots."
Hearing this, Moira Lynch thought, ’Well, we’re not doing anything else.’ "How about we plant mushrooms again?"
The last time they planted mushrooms, they were busy for several days straight.
This was mainly because the mushrooms grew at different rates, and they had to hurry to harvest each one when it was at its most delicious.
Upon hearing this, Shane Rhodes opened his mouth to say, "Maybe we should wait. We still haven’t finished the mushrooms we grew last time. Besides, ever since we planted them, a few mushrooms have been popping up now and then in the outdoor vegetable patch and on the trunk of the Elf Tree House."
"Alright, then."
Seeing Kai York and Hugh Finch already lying down in their game pods, Moira Lynch prepared to lie down and try hers out as well.
She had previously obtained an internal player qualification in the game.
This qualification allowed her to have the dual identity of a player and an NPC. She couldn’t let it go to waste.
After entering the game pod, hundreds of different games appeared before Moira Lynch.
Each game was exquisitely crafted, making you feel completely immersed once you entered.
’I have to say, the daily lives of Starfarers are truly rich and varied,’ she thought.
After finding the game Divine Soul, she clicked "Log In."
A white screen appeared in front of Moira Lynch: [New player detected. Please enter your game ID.]
After a moment of thought, Moira Lynch entered the character "Mo."
After she clicked "Confirm," a line of text popped up: [This name is already taken. Please choose another.]
Moira Lynch: "..."
She then tried several more in a row, even her alias SoySauceDrunkard, but surprisingly, they were all taken as well.
Finally, Moira Lynch gave up and simply entered her real name.
[Congratulations on successfully naming your character. Special game qualification detected. Now automatically generating your game avatar.]
Immediately after, five different avatars appeared before Moira Lynch. These five were the various NPCs she had played in the game before.
First, she ruled out the unnamed NPC and the Azure Conch boss.
In the end, from the remaining choices of the village chief’s daughter, Azure, and the Snow Maiden, Moira Lynch chose the Snow Maiden.
The reason was simple: the Snow Maiden was the most impressive. She looked incredibly powerful at a glance, and beautiful on top of that.
"I choose you! Pika, pika!"
[Player has selected the Snow Maiden avatar. Generating quests for you now. You may now make minor adjustments to the character’s appearance, but please do not adjust it too much, or it will affect how in-game NPCs recognize you.]
’Got it. So I can do some minor cosmetic surgery, but I can’t go too far, or the NPCs in the game won’t recognize me,’ she thought.
