Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 338 - 328: The Crimson Alliance 9
This was a common occurrence on the battlefield.
After a battle, both sides would send out teams to find their survivors and, while they were at it, finish off any remaining enemies.
It was fine if they didn’t run into each other, but if they did, the chance of a clash was extremely high.
Just then, Ellers warned her, "When we get there, you have to choose one side to treat. Do you understand?"
"What?" Moira asked, confused.
’Isn’t The Crimson Alliance a neutral organization?’
As if sensing Moira’s confusion, Ellers explained, "The Crimson Alliance may be a neutral organization, but sometimes, trying not to offend either side just means you end up offending both. Especially during a sensitive time like this."
It was better to treat only one side than to risk falling into disfavor with both.
"Besides, you won’t be the only Crimson Alliance member there. Just blend in with the crowd, and no one will notice anything."
Moira had always been one to take good advice. Seeing that Ellers was clearly speaking from experience, she nodded decisively.
"Alright, I’ll listen to you."
Seeing Moira’s decisiveness, Ellers was very pleased. ’This one knows how to listen.’
He had run into Crimson Alliance members before, but they were the type who seemed incapable of understanding plain talk.
No matter how clearly he explained the risks and benefits, they simply wouldn’t listen, insisting on doing things their own way.
In the end, not only did they bring disaster upon themselves and others, but they also needed someone else to clean up their mess.
And afterward, they’d put on this innocent act, as if they were the ones who had been terribly wronged. It made him want to kill somebody.
By the time Moira reached the location indicated by her badge, the smell of gunsmoke already filled the air, and she couldn’t help but frown before she even got close.
’The smell was just like setting off a huge string of fireworks in the backyard as a kid.’
When she reached the designated location, Moira saw a scene of utter devastation.
By now, quite a few people dressed in the same uniform as Moira were already bustling about the battlefield.
Guided by Ellers, Moira headed straight for the other side of the field.
When they arrived, one of the men caught a clear sight of Ellers, and his eyes instantly lit up. "Professor El! It’s great to see you’re still alive!"
Moira looked at the man before her. The first thing she noticed were his incredible proportions and the ridiculously long legs accentuated by his uniform.
His face was the second thing she noticed.
He had well-defined features and sharp eyes.
Looking at his face alone, he was just moderately handsome, nothing particularly stunning.
But combined with that jaw-dropping physique, it was a completely different story.
It was just...
’For some reason, though, his eyes gave Moira the impression that he wasn’t very bright.’
Moira’s impression was soon confirmed.
Seeing a familiar face, a rare, relaxed smile broke out on Ellers’s face. "What are you doing leading the team this time?"
"We were sent to find you. The Marshal’s orders were, ’I want to see him alive or see his corpse.’ He said that even if you were blown to bits, we were to gather up the pieces and bring you back."
The man repeated the Marshal’s pre-departure orders verbatim, his expression completely serious.
He completely failed to notice the smile that was gradually freezing on Ellers’s face.
Moira’s eyes went wide when she heard him. ’Can you really say something like that so directly?’
"Never mind," Ellers sighed, deciding not to argue with an idiot. "Let’s focus on treating the wounded. I brought you a doctor."
It was then that he noticed, aside from Moira, whom he had brought, there wasn’t a single other Crimson Alliance member in sight. ’He’d seen plenty of them earlier. Why weren’t there any here?’
"Where are the other people from The Crimson Alliance?" Ellers asked.
At the mention of this, Snow’s brow furrowed. "They saw our side wasn’t as badly hurt, so they left some first-aid supplies and went over to the other side."
Although Snow’s voice was steady and his tone seemed calm as he spoke, the micro-expressions on his face betrayed his displeasure with The Crimson Alliance.
They were the ones protecting the galaxy, maintaining peace for The Federation. Without them, countless people would fall victim to interstellar pirates.
Yet the people from The Crimson Alliance had chosen the other side without a second thought, simply because they were more severely wounded.
It was like a village that had been terrorized by bandits for years. One day, someone finally drove the bandits away. But instead of being grateful, the villagers, thinking their savior had been too rough, scrambled to treat the wounded bandits, completely ignoring the fact that their protector had been injured as well.
"Stop thinking about that frustrating business," Ellers said. "The one I brought you is worth a whole squad of them."
As he spoke, Ellers clapped Moira on the shoulder.
Hearing this, Snow looked at Moira in disbelief.
He had actually noticed the young woman with Professor El from the start.
He wasn’t surprised to see her in a Crimson Alliance uniform.
After all, while The Crimson Alliance’s actions could be frustrating, their public image was excellent. Kind-hearted people, or those filled with a burning passion to save lives, were often drawn to join.
And even for those who didn’t join, wearing a Crimson Alliance uniform on a dangerous battlefield offered a degree of safety.
But looking at Moira’s youthful face, Snow asked uncertainly, "Professor El, are you sure? Hiring a minor is a serious crime."
Hearing Snow’s words, Ellers froze. He realized he hadn’t actually confirmed whether Moira was an adult.
’She has to be an adult... right?’
He turned to look at Moira, a flicker of uncertainty on his face.
"I’m an adult."
Hearing Moira say this, Snow let out a sigh of relief. He pointed in a certain direction and said, "The wounded are over there. Just do your best. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself."
Even though he’d heard her say she was an adult with his own ears, Snow couldn’t help but soften his tone when speaking to her.
Moira walked in the direction Snow had indicated and soon spotted a tent.
Outside the tent, some less-critically wounded people were resting with their eyes closed.
Their wounds weren’t severe and had only been simply bandaged.
As she entered the tent, the thick smell of blood hit her, and Moira couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose.
The tent was filled with wounded soldiers.
Some had been injured in the recent battle, while others were casualties recovered from the field.
Many of them were missing arms or legs, and some had fallen into comas.
The caretakers inside the tent were completely overwhelmed. With so many patients, they simply couldn’t keep up.
