Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 336 - 326: The Crimson Alliance 7
Before Moira Lynch could answer, Ellers continued, "We’re in luck. Not only did this Echobeast grow a special part, but the location is also quite unusual."
"Unusual? How so?" Moira Lynch asked.
Ellers explained, "Everyone knows the chance of an Echobeast growing a special part is one in ten thousand, but what most don’t know is that these parts come in two types. The first is a unique piece of flesh, shaped much like a scallop."
"In that case, the flesh can grow anywhere on its body."
"The second type is what we have here—a grown membrane or bone. This is even rarer than the first, with a probability of only about three in one hundred thousand."
The information Moira Lynch had previously received from Patience was that eating an Echobeast’s special part would grant the ability to imitate voices. A tool crafted from that part would have the same effect.
But one was an innate ability, while the other was just a tool. Comparing the two, the former seemed much better.
’So why did Ellers say she was lucky?’
As if sensing Moira Lynch’s confusion, Ellers explained, "While eating the Echobeast’s flesh does grant the ability to mimic voices, that ability comes at a price."
"Research shows that for every ten people who consume the special flesh, their voices change within a few years, and their vocal cords sustain varying degrees of damage. This damage is permanent and irreversible."
"Even if they rarely use the ability to imitate others, their vocal cords still get damaged. Eventually, they even face the risk of losing their voice completely."
Moira Lynch’s mouth hung slightly open. "It’s that serious?"
Ellers nodded gravely. "No kidding."
"For the Echobeast, growing something like this is actually a kind of disease."
Moira Lynch took the white membrane. It felt incredibly soft and comfortable in her hand.
It didn’t just look like silk; it felt like it too.
’If he hadn’t said anything, who would have thought this came from inside a Starbeast?’
’Looking at the length, it seems a bit too large for a mask. It’d be wasteful, and too conspicuous.’
After seeing Moira Lynch put the item away, Ellers returned to his task.
As he touched the Echobeast’s stomach, the organ, which had been motionless, suddenly twitched.
The sudden movement made Moira Lynch jump.
"Don’t be alarmed. It must be someone the Echobeast ate before we arrived," Ellers said, reacting first.
"Someone can survive being eaten?" Moira Lynch asked, intrigued.
"An Echobeast has six stomachs. Four are purely for storing food and don’t contain corrosive gastric acid. The other two—one large and one small—are for digestion."
"It lets food ferment for a while in the storage stomachs, then the larger stomach digests it once, and then the smaller stomach digests it again."
"Through this process, all the nutrients from the food are absorbed completely."
He carefully sliced open the frantically struggling stomach, taking care not to harm the person inside.
Soon, a foul-smelling mass squeezed out.
A human figure struggled to emerge from the pile.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch pulled a giant Water Storage Mushroom from her inventory.
She aimed the top of the Water Storage Mushroom at the person on the ground, and a jet of clean water sprayed out, quickly rinsing them off.
"Are you okay?" Moira Lynch asked.
The man shook his soaking wet hair and said to Moira Lynch, "I’m fine. Thanks for saving me."
He then flashed Moira Lynch a grateful smile.
The moment she saw his smile, Moira Lynch’s vision swam, and an absurd thought popped into her head. ’His smile is so beautiful. How can anyone have such a beautiful smile?’
But the state didn’t last long. A sudden, sharp pain in her head snapped Moira Lynch back to her senses.
When she looked at the man on the ground again, Moira Lynch’s eyes were filled with wariness.
Only then did she get a clear look at his features and clothing, which were completely different from anyone she had met before.
He had bronze skin and deep-set features tinged with a hint of wickedness.
And then there were his clothes.
At first, Moira Lynch had assumed his chest and back were bare because his clothes had been torn in battle. But looking again, she realized they were designed that way.
Seeing Moira Lynch snap out of his enchantment so quickly, the man couldn’t help but click his tongue.
"You’re with The Crimson Alliance, right? I’m injured. Come patch me up."
The man said, raising his left arm.
The man’s arm was powerful, his muscles full but not overly exaggerated—the type who looks ripped without a shirt but lean when dressed.
But right now, that powerful arm was twisted at an unnatural angle in front of Moira Lynch.
A shattered fracture.
Moira Lynch gently felt it; the entire arm was limp. The bones inside were completely shattered.
The severity of the injury rivaled Ellers’ previous condition.
In a case like this, ordinary treatment would be useless.
Strangely, aside from his arm, the rest of the man’s body was completely unscathed.
’But that wasn’t her business. Her job was just to heal people.’
Moira Lynch took out her Priest’s Staff.
A green healing light showered down on the man’s arm.
Under the healing light, the arm that had been shattered to pieces began to recover at a visible rate.
The man, being the one treated, felt the effects most clearly.
He could feel the bones in his arm knitting back together, bit by bit.
Once the arm was completely healed, Moira Lynch finally breathed a sigh of relief.
’Thankfully, it was just one arm.’
Moira Lynch was completely oblivious to the way the man was now looking at her, as if he’d just found a priceless treasure.
He flexed his arm, confirming it was as good as new. Even some of his old injuries and scars were gone.
He suddenly grabbed Moira Lynch, his tone dead serious. "Young lady, instead of wasting your time with that dead-end Crimson Alliance, why not come work for me? How about it? Be my personal physician. You can name your price."
People like him, who lived on the knife’s edge, valued their own lives above all else.
And at a time like this, a reliable doctor was more important than anything.
Moira Lynch was the most powerful healer he had ever seen. If he couldn’t secure a talent like her for himself...
