Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 315 - 305: Mysterious Figure in the Snow
Hearing that, Moira Lynch went online to search.
The results were shocking.
There were effects for everything from Angel appearances and the Hammer of Thor to Fatian Xiangdi.
Some people had even used these to declare themselves gods and were proselytizing online.
"You guys, look at this."
Moira Lynch had Patience project a video onto a screen specifically used for watching movies.
In the video, a blond, blue-eyed man in a white robe was kneeling in pious worship. Behind him stood a silent Six-Winged Angel holding a Holy Sword, its body radiating a golden light.
"Isn’t this just another one of those... atmosphere-creation chips?" Shane Rhodes asked.
"More or less. This video seems to have come from overseas."
Besides that, most of the content online was just people having fun with them and creating memes.
The one Kai York had just used was considered child’s play in comparison—the type of effect that nobody would even bother buying.
Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch were also in a bit of a daze seeing this.
They’d only been offline for two days, but it felt like they’d missed an eternity.
Still, these background effects looked really good, especially the one with Thor’s arrival.
Shane Rhodes felt that the Thor-arrival effect from the video was a perfect match for him.
So, without hesitation, Shane Rhodes clicked on the SoySauceDrunkard shop, wanting to buy a blind box for himself.
But as soon as he entered, he was greeted by the sight of an empty shop.
There was nothing inside but empty shelves.
Oh, no, that’s not right. There were people.
"Are the blind boxes available every day?" The speaker was Hugh Finch.
He had clearly just come from the SoySauceDrunkard shop as well and was asking because he’d seen the empty shelves.
As a regular who had frequented the shop for the past few days, Kai York knew the situation inside and out.
"The SoySauceDrunkard shop usually restocks at six in the morning, and that includes the blind boxes. But at noon, they’ll drop a new wave of blind boxes. The types are random, though, and they sell out in a flash."
After all, the whole world was keeping an eye on SoySauceDrunkard’s [Don’t Miss It] shop. No matter what new items were listed, countless people would fight over them.
You could say that if you wanted to get your hands on the blind box you really wanted, quick fingers weren’t enough—you needed luck, too.
"If you guys want one of those chips, I still have several blind boxes right here."
Because Moira Lynch helped her get a backdoor, Kai York’s luck had always been unusually good.
However, Kai York had never managed to get the one she wanted. She had already sold off several not long ago.
The chip she had just unboxed still wasn’t the one she wanted.
’Why is it so hard to get what I want from a blind box?’
Alas, life was tough, and Kai could only sigh.
Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch didn’t stand on ceremony with Kai York. They unceremoniously took all the chip blind boxes from her hands.
"Don’t sell the chip you just opened. Keep it. It’s perfect for changing the scenery a little," Shane Rhodes said.
If things continued as they were, they would be living with white snow for a long time to come.
Keeping the chip she just got would be a good way to improve their living environment.
Even if it was fake, it was nice to trick your eyes a little.
"If that’s all, I have something better here," Moira Lynch said, slowly raising her hand.
She then snapped her fingers, and the surrounding environment began to change as if by magic.
After about ten seconds, the scene before them transformed into a blue sea under a blue sky, with golden beaches and green forests, so realistic it felt real.
Just then, a breeze seemed to blow past. They all instinctively closed their eyes but felt nothing, only then realizing it was all fake.
"Moira, why do I get the feeling your chip is better than mine?" Kai York asked.
"Be more confident. Drop the ’get the feeling’ part. My chip *is* better than yours," Tong Wynn said. "Because I bought this chip; it didn’t come from a blind box."
At this, Kai York let out a deep sigh. "So this is what they mean by ’you get what you pay for’?"
Because the temperature was dropping steadily, the group no longer returned to their own rooms.
The beanbag sofa Moira Lynch had brought back was large enough to serve as a bed. Its angle could be freely adjusted, and it even had an automatic heating function.
The four of them just slept like that, gathered around the fireplace.
The living room was too big and heat dissipated quickly, so Moira Lynch had used wooden planks to partition off a smaller room within it. This way, they could enjoy the warmth to the fullest.
That night, Moira Lynch was suddenly startled awake from her sleep by the sound of a howling wind outside.
She glanced at the thermometer nearby. Sure enough, the temperature had dropped again.
But that wasn’t why Moira had woken up. She sensed something was lurking outside.
Moira Lynch’s spiritual power caught a glimpse of the thing’s figure, but it was too fast, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
It seemed to want to get inside, but it was also extremely wary of something in the house.
’Does it know it’s been spotted?’
After telling Patience to keep an eye on the situation outside, Moira Lynch yawned and went back to sleep.
「The next day」
The snow outside still hadn’t stopped, but it had lightened up considerably.
Moira Lynch went outside. The plastic sheeting around the house hadn’t been damaged, and there were no tracks in the yard. After all, it had been snowing all night; any tracks left behind would have long since been buried.
The group grabbed their snow-shoveling gear and started clearing the snow.
After several days of non-stop snowfall, the snow had grown increasingly thick. To prevent their houses from being buried and their roofs from collapsing, everyone would go out to shovel snow whenever it stopped or lightened up.
The snow inside the base was handled by robots. Everyone just needed to pile the snow from their yards and roofs by their front door, and someone specialized would come to take care of it.
That’s right, all these robots had been purchased from Moira Lynch. They were now gloriously on duty and had received widespread acclaim.
Moira Lynch’s group had a robot, which made everything they did much easier.
As for Shane Rhodes’s robot, it was the object of everyone’s envy.
The base leadership was the most persistent among them, having come by several times to make an offer.
But from start to finish, Shane Rhodes had only two words for them: Not selling.
"Hey, look what this is!"
Hearing Kai York’s voice, Moira Lynch and the others looked over curiously.
They saw Kai York brush away the snow on top to reveal a giant, icy footprint.
The footprint had four toes. It obviously wasn’t human.
Moira Lynch tried to compare her own foot to it. The difference was like a small child trying on an adult’s shoes.
