Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 307 - 297: Blind Box Match-Up 12
In the crowd, Shane Rhodes looked at the rewards on offer and was shamelessly tempted. ’It’s not like my life is on the line,’ he thought, ’so why not give it a try?’
Besides, he had been training constantly recently and was looking for someone to test his current skills on.
And so, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Shane Rhodes stepped onto the stage.
What he didn’t see, however, was that just as he squeezed through the crowd and headed for the fighting ring, a figure in green ran past nearby.
Kai York saw the large crowd gathered there and was curious about what was going on.
However, remembering he had other things to do, he suppressed his curiosity and ran off without a second glance.
Elsewhere, Moira Lynch had just walked out of the last warehouse.
After leaving the clothing processing plant, Moira immediately ran at top speed toward the next one.
This time, it was a snack processing plant.
She showed her credentials to the robot at the gate.
On the way, the robot kept sizing Moira up. "You look so young," it said. "How old are you?"
This time, Moira had learned her lesson. She didn’t say she was underage, but simply replied, "Where I’m from, my current age is considered an adult."
She wasn’t lying. While she was indeed not of age by interstellar standards, on Caelus, she was definitely an adult.
Hearing Moira say she was an adult, the robot was visibly relieved.
It had just received a message from a friend saying an underage girl was working as a volunteer, which had scared it half to death.
You have to understand, the penalties for hiring child labor in the interstellar community are extremely severe.
Moira was led to a massive warehouse filled with all sorts of snacks.
She casually picked up a snack cake, checked the date, and sure enough, it was a near-expiry product. It would expire in two days.
"Are all the snacks in here near-expiry?" Moira asked.
The robot nodded. "Of course. Other factories ship snacks here for centralized processing when they’re between seven days and half a month from expiring."
"A batch was just processed a few days ago. If you hadn’t come, these near-expiry snacks would have been disposed of tomorrow."
Hearing this, Moira was glad she had come. Otherwise, wouldn’t all these snacks have gone to waste?
When she was stockpiling supplies before, she had only focused on hoarding all kinds of food and had completely forgotten about snacks.
As a result, the snacks in her space were pitifully few, and she had to ration them. What’s more, Snowy, her Spiritual Body, would always try to snatch them from her.
Consequently, the human and Spiritual Body, who were usually inseparable, would instantly turn hostile and be at each other’s throats whenever snacks were involved.
Gazing at the warehouse packed full of snacks, she felt as if she had entered paradise.
After the robot left, Moira’s spiritual power spread out like a giant fishing net, lunging toward the mountain of snacks in the warehouse.
’This feeling of continuously pulling things into my space is just too satisfying.’
When she felt her spiritual power about to run out, she quickly drank a vial of Medicine to restore it.
After resting for a moment, she continued collecting.
An unknown amount of time passed before Moira finally pulled the last batch of snacks into her space. Immediately after, a wave of dizziness washed over her.
Moira quickly took out another bottle of spiritual power-restoring Medicine and drank it. The dizziness soon subsided.
It was now eight o’clock at night. All the factories were closed, so she prepared to rest at the same place as yesterday and continue tomorrow.
Walking back, she suddenly felt a bit hungry, but she didn’t want a full meal. So, she took a bag of snacks out of her space and started eating.
[Magic Crispy Noodles: The texture is as varied as a Mage’s spell, becoming more fragrant the more you chew.]
Moira eagerly took a bite.
CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH.
’It tastes pretty much the same as the crispy noodles from Caelus,’ she thought. ’Just a bigger portion.’
’My expectations might have been let down, but it’s good enough to have something to eat.’
After finishing the bag of crispy noodles, Moira took out a bottle of soda.
[Happy Soda: After drinking, your mood will involuntarily improve.]
She took several big gulps of the Happy Soda. She didn’t feel her mood becoming "beautiful and better," but it did taste quite good. The sweetness was just right, and she could even taste fruit pulp in it.
On the way back, Moira’s mouth never stopped moving.
As she passed an intersection, she suddenly overheard two Tarmirians talking in low voices.
"That guy before was incredible! He beat the ring champion in less than five minutes."
"You should have seen it! The host’s face turned green. It was hilarious, I almost died laughing."
"They probably never expected that the professional fighter they paid a fortune for would actually be defeated."
"I heard that after the first guy beat the champion so easily, someone else wanted to try their luck. But they didn’t even last three moves before getting knocked away. They’re still lying in the hospital now."
"Oh, right! Did you get that cute guy’s contact info? We can’t miss out on a guy who’s that handsome and powerful."
"No, he’s so aloof. I tried to talk to him, but he just ignored me and went with the host to collect his prize."
Hearing this, Moira walked away as if she had heard nothing.
After hearing their description, Moira was almost certain who they were talking about.
She opened her Intelligent Brain, tapped on the four-person group chat, and sure enough, saw Shane Rhodes showing off the robot he had just won, along with one hundred thousand Gold Coins.
Below his message, Kai York and Hugh Finch were showering him with flattery and begging to be taken care of.
’Kai York is one thing, but Hugh Finch too...?’
Apparently, Moira had forgotten the old saying: birds of a feather flock together.
There was a reason Hugh Finch got along so well with Shane Rhodes and Kai York.
Then, Moira decisively sent a "Plus one" message after theirs.
After exiting the group chat, Moira suddenly noticed an unread email.
The timestamp showed it had arrived an hour ago.
’Who would email me at this hour? Eleanor Vaughn or the system?’
After opening it, Moira first looked at the signature at the bottom. It was from The Scavenger’s Guild.
The content of the email was very simple.
[A batch of energy cores will arrive at the scrapyard tomorrow. All certified Recyclers are to report and assist with recovery.]
"Patience, what’s an energy core?" Moira asked.
[Energy cores are energy balls dismantled from battle armor. They contain immense energy. Most of this armor comes from battles where the energy core was damaged, causing energy to leak. They require harmless-disposal processing.]
"Can’t they be recovered for secondary use?" Moira continued to ask.
[The time and money required to repair one energy core far exceed the cost of manufacturing a new one.]
In other words, it wasn’t worth it.
