Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 297 - 287: Blind Box Match-Up 2

  • Next Chapter

An unknown amount of time passed. Moira Lynch’s movements became more and more practiced, and the pile of goods in front of her began to shrink faster and faster.

Moira found that as long as a box was undamaged and contained a piece of Fangfei Silk along with one item, it was generally deemed acceptable.

From this, Moira deduced that the batch of blind boxes she was packaging probably wasn’t very expensive.

But since they were electronics, they wouldn’t be dirt cheap, either.

During a brief lull, Moira had Patience search for the price of these types of blind boxes online. They ranged from two to thirty Gold Coins.

In the grand scheme of blind boxes, this price wasn’t expensive, but it wasn’t cheap either—it fell into the lower-middle range.

Next, Moira had Patience search for the original prices of the electronics themselves.

Unsurprisingly, the prices were similar to the blind boxes, with most items actually being cheaper than the boxes they were put in.

’What a bunch of crooks,’ Moira cursed inwardly.

Soon, she had made a dent in the pile of products before her.

Compared to the total amount, however, what Moira had completed was merely the tip of the iceberg.

Fortunately, the mission had a five-day time limit. Otherwise, few people would probably be able to finish it.

There was nothing around to mark the passage of time. The lights overhead kept the room as bright as day.

Under such conditions, it was easy to lose all sense of time.

Luckily, Moira had Patience to report the time for her.

Suddenly, Moira felt a pang of hunger. She checked the time—it was already noon.

She took out the meal she had prepared earlier, deciding to fill her stomach before doing anything else.

’Packing blind boxes requires both patience and stamina,’ she thought. ’I definitely need to eat well.’

Just then, a noise came from the door. A machine delivered a tube of nutrient liquid.

Moira eyed the green nutrient liquid, her face twisting in disgust.

This particular brand was arguably the cheapest and most disgusting of all the nutrient liquids available.

’These Tarmirians are so stingy,’ she thought, ’feeding us this crap.’

Tossing the nutrient liquid into her storage space, Moira took out the packed meal she’d prepared. Just as she was about to eat, the system’s voice suddenly echoed in her ears.

[Warning! Player ’ArlindaLovesAlgae’ has opened and used an item from its packaging. This act is considered theft. Player status is revoked, and you will be expelled. You will be billed for the cost of the blind box.]

[Warning! Player ’JerryOhJerry’ has opened and used an item from its packaging. This act is considered theft. Player status is revoked, and you will be expelled. You will be billed for the cost of the blind box.]

[Warning! Player ’WorldInMyHand’ has opened and used an item from its packaging. This act is considered theft. Player status is revoked, and you will be expelled. You will be billed for the cost of the blind box.]

The three warnings came one after another, the system’s voice growing more furious with each announcement.

Shoveling rice into her mouth, Moira thought, ’Those three who got announced must be new players.’

Veteran players all knew to prepare their own food in advance to avoid the embarrassing situation of having nothing to eat.

After eating her fill, Moira got back to work.

With five days, as long as she managed her time wisely, finishing the task wouldn’t be a problem.

However, Moira wanted to save some time for other things.

From the information Patience found, Moira knew that Tarmir had countless unsold blind boxes every year.

These boxes wouldn’t sell even if they were repackaged, so they were simply thrown away.

Also, besides being overrun with blind boxes, Tarmir was also a renowned capital of technology.

Those wireless earbuds Moira had seen earlier were all manufactured on Tarmir.

The Learning Machine Moira had been using was also made on Tarmir.

A long time ago, Tarmir had also been the largest R&D and production hub for palm screens in all of interstellar space.

Palm screens, in simple terms, were a fusion of gloves and phones. They were incredibly convenient—all you had to do was open your hand.

Thanks to palm screens, Tarmir was once the most prosperous place in the galaxy.

Unfortunately, the emergence of the Intelligent Brain dealt a massive blow to the palm screen market.

Gradually, palm screens were replaced by the Intelligent Brain.

To finish the task as quickly as possible, Moira decided to sacrifice sleep. It didn’t really matter if she went without it for now. Besides, she had various Medicines on hand to restore her energy whenever she needed.

Moira’s plan was to finish the task within three days, then go exploring and see what she could find.

She got right to it.

Having made up her mind, Moira instantly kicked into high gear and began packing blind boxes with a frenzy.

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. By now, Moira and her two strands of spiritual power worked in perfect harmony. She would occasionally take a moment to drink a Recovery Potion, restoring her depleted spiritual power and stamina while warding off fatigue.

She worked like this until the afternoon, by which point the contents of the room had visibly diminished.

By dinnertime, Moira was ravenous. She stopped her work and began to eat.

With the first bite of food, Moira let out a contented sigh, feeling as if she had come back to life.

She also opened the Intelligent Brain to see if the other three had sent any messages.

[Kai York: What are you guys packing?]

Seeing his message, Moira casually replied.

[Moira Lynch: All sorts of electronics.]

[Shane Rhodes: Something similar. I’m packing spaceship blind boxes.]

He followed it up with a strained smile emoji.

Great. Just from the text, Moira could already feel Shane’s helplessness and despair.

[Hugh Finch: I’m packing pet insect blind boxes. I have to say, Starfarers really know how to live. Their tastes are... unique.]

It was a very rational-sounding statement, but Moira could sense the frantic undertones.

Compared to them, her own task seemed pretty good.

[Moira Lynch: @Kai York, what blind boxes are you packing?]

[Kai York: Doll blind boxes. I have a room full of dolls here. I feel like there are a thousand pairs of eyes watching me right now.]

He followed it up with a crying-face emoji.

[Kai York: @Shane Rhodes @Hugh Finch, Boss, Youyou, can I sleep with you guys when we get back?]

[Shane Rhodes: Get lost!]

[Hugh Finch: No. And don’t call me Youyou.]

[Moira Lynch: If you’re scared, I can have Black Wolf sleep with you. You can lie in its embrace.]

[Kai York: I’d rather not. I’m afraid I’ll be in its embrace one day and in its stomach the next.]

[Shane Rhodes: Or the toilet.]

Moira shoveled the last bite of her meal into her mouth, wiped her lips on her sleeve, closed the chat window, and got back to work.

Back to the grind.

Right then, Moira wished she were like the deity Nezha, with three heads and six arms.
