Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 205: Deserted Island Survival 29
She raised her hand and collected the little guys who were scrambling for food.
The next day, Moira Lynch noticed the underground volcanic activity had become even more intense, and she began to think about leaving the deserted island.
With the Sea Pearl in her possession, she could leave at any time.
No sooner said than done.
Moira Lynch dove straight into the water, collecting aquatic life as she swam further and further away.
After an unknown amount of time, she surfaced and looked back to find the deserted island was already far in the distance.
Just as Moira Lynch was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a system warning suddenly sounded in her ear.
[Player SoySauceDrunkard has entered an unreleased area without authorization. Please return immediately, or your player eligibility will be revoked.]
Upon hearing that, the smile on Moira Lynch’s face froze.
’There were some choice words she wanted to say, but she held her tongue. When you’re under someone else’s thumb, you have to bow your head.’
After the system’s warning, Moira Lynch swam back for dear life. The alerts only stopped when she was a hundred meters from the shoreline.
’It seems this is the designated event area for this game.’
Back on shore, the long swim had drained a massive amount of her stamina. She took out the leftover grilled fish from yesterday and ate while considering her next move.
’Since it’s an unreleased area, maybe it will open up in the later stages of the game. Or perhaps it will remain closed until the very end.’
’Since she couldn’t hide out at sea, she would just have to take things one step at a time.’
By now, Moira Lynch had long since solved the basic problems of food and water.
She didn’t lack for food or drink, and since she had nothing better to do, Moira Lynch released the Black Wolf from her inventory space, letting it guide her as she explored the deserted island.
After discovering the Full Vine and the Qio Vine, Moira Lynch was very curious to see what other surprises this deserted island had in store for her.
The Black Wolf was very cooperative. Knowing it would be leaving soon, it deliberately led Moira Lynch to the food it usually liked to eat.
To Moira Lynch’s surprise, for a Battle Wolf, the Black Wolf’s diet was mostly vegetarian.
In response to Moira Lynch’s astonished look, the Black Wolf lifted its chin smugly. "AWOOOO."
’What, never seen a disciplined wolf before?’
’These may all be plants, but they’re extremely good for you. When I was a pup, eating too many roots gave me nosebleeds, so I’d occasionally eat other things too.’
Moira Lynch believed it. After verification from Patience, it turned out that everything the Black Wolf ate were medicinal herbs, some of which were exceptionally rare.
Moira Lynch harvested them and stuffed them into her Pharmacy Box, adding to her collection of medicinal ingredients.
Meanwhile, on another side of the island, Misty Cloud had also entered the game.
However, compared to Moira Lynch, her last few days had been anything but smooth.
Or, to put it another way, among all the players, you could count the number of people having an easier time than Moira Lynch on one hand.
At the very start of the game, she was teleported into a grove of wild fruit trees.
She was thrilled with this starting location; after all, players weren’t allowed to bring any food into this game.
In the previous game, she had gone through a lot of trouble completing quests for the natives to get a Space Button, which she then stuffed full of supplies, waiting to use it in the next game.
But as it turned out, the very first game after acquiring the Space Button gave her a rude awakening.
Clinging to a sliver of hope, she had still chosen to bring the fully stocked Space Button into the game.
But after she arrived, she discovered she couldn’t take anything out of the Space Button at all.
Since the Space Button was full, it couldn’t be used to store new things either, meaning she had completely wasted an item slot—or potentially two.
Misty Cloud was filled with regret. Fortunately, she had been teleported to a good spot. With all this fruit, at least she wouldn’t have to worry about starving.
But her relief didn’t last long.
The fruits were sour, astringent, and small; a single bite was enough to make her face pucker.
Next, she found a nest of wild eggs in the grass. But before she could even get excited, a green-feathered wild chicken shot out of the bushes and attacked her.
Misty Cloud’s talent wasn’t combat-oriented; what’s more, it could only be used on other players. With no one else around, she was completely powerless against a green-feathered chicken that was taller than she was.
Luckily, at the critical moment, Misty Cloud used an item to teleport herself to a safer location.
She was covered in blood from the chicken’s point-blank assault, forcing her to use a rare healing item.
She had brought five items into this game. The Space Button was useless from the start, and the healing item was now gone. She only had three items left.
She thought things couldn’t possibly get any unluckier.
But she never would have imagined that was just the appetizer.
This deserted island—this game—was far more dangerous than she had ever imagined.
Since she couldn’t identify any of the local plants, she had eaten almost nothing proper besides those initial wild fruits.
Starving, dehydrated, and constantly on guard against any rustle from the surrounding bushes.
It was impossible to describe how miserable she was.
Her clothes were in tatters, and she had no spares to change into.
This string of misfortunes left Misty Cloud exceptionally irritable.
What made her even more frustrated was her reputation. She had screwed over many people in previous games. Some had managed to survive, and one had even uploaded a video of her treachery to the web. As a result, no one wanted to team up with her now, not even members of her own organization.
And so, relying on her powerful will to survive, Misty Cloud managed to stubbornly endure on the deserted island for over ten days, passing the first stage.
When the system airdropped supplies, a crate happened to land right in front of her. Inside was a complete set of wilderness survival gear, along with some food and water.
One day, Misty Cloud was in the forest searching for food.
Over the past few days, she had run into a few other players, but they all gave her a wide berth.
Misty Cloud held a long, thin stick, cursing under her breath as she viciously thwacked the surrounding plants.
Just then, a giant green flower appeared above and behind her. It opened its maw and swallowed Misty Cloud in a single gulp.
Misty Cloud found herself trapped in a narrow space. The walls around her were covered in a thick layer of slime.
When she accidentally touched the slime, a sharp, burning pain instantly shot through the skin on her hand.
Realizing the danger, Misty Cloud hurriedly pulled out her only offensive item—a kitchen cleaver—and began hacking at one section of the wall.
