Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 200: Deserted Island Survival 24
When night fell, at Black Wolf’s urging, Moira Lynch roasted the white bird.
Black Wolf ate with gusto, shaking its head and wagging its tail. "Awoo."
’I can’t believe cooked food is this delicious. I’ve missed out on so much all these years.’
Hearing this, Moira Lynch thought to herself, ’Even if you had known, what could a lone wolf like you have possibly done?’
’Start a fire and you’d probably burn down the whole mountain, killing yourself in the process.’
Moira Lynch unearthed the clay-baked chicken she had just made and tore off a tender, juicy thigh. Just as she was about to take a bite...
The next second, a tremor ran through the ground.
Since she already knew about the underwater volcano, Moira Lynch thought it was about to erupt.
She scrambled to her feet and pulled out the bamboo raft she had prepared, ready to escape.
However, after running a short distance, Moira Lynch realized something was wrong. This didn’t feel like a volcanic eruption.
Immediately after, an enraged roar echoed from the distance.
’It couldn’t be what I’m thinking, could it?’
’Did those people really make their move so brazenly?’
Moira Lynch turned to Black Wolf beside her and asked, "Did those people you found earlier say when they were going to strike?"
Black Wolf shook its head. "Awoo."
’No, but I saw them burying a lot of long, stick-like things at the entrance of Shirley Blackwood’s cave. They gave off a foul smell.’
"Is it this smell?"
Moira Lynch took out a bullet, broke it open, and revealed the gunpowder inside.
Black Wolf lowered its head, sniffed, and nodded. "Awoo."
’That’s right. That’s the smell.’
"Let’s go. We’ll go take a look."
Moira Lynch vaulted onto Black Wolf’s back, and the wolf shot forward, carrying her like a bolt of lightning.
Quite a few players heard the commotion, but not all of them were brave enough to investigate the source of the sound.
Black Wolf expertly followed the path toward Shirley Blackwood’s cave. Along the way, they saw many frightened animals fleeing in panic.
Once they were close enough, Moira Lynch could also smell the acrid scent of gunpowder, feel the ground trembling, and hear the sounds of battle.
In the distance, she could vaguely make out a huge white figure, its body flashing with multicolored light as it writhed and roared in fury.
Besides the white figure, there were several attacks of different colors—purple, red, cyan, yellow—and even the sound of singing.
Moira Lynch scanned the area with her spiritual power. A few dozen people were attacking Shirley Blackwood. In addition, one person was hiding in the bushes not far from the battlefield, observing the situation.
’Is that a walkie-talkie in his hand?’
Moira Lynch keenly noticed that the person’s hand seemed to be holding something.
Moreover, Moira Lynch sensed that the other person’s spiritual power was very active. He was someone with a Spiritual Talent, just like her.
However, this person’s level was clearly lower than Moira’s, and since his attention was focused on the battlefield, he hadn’t discovered her presence.
Without the cover of the Favor Gemstone, the fluctuations of Moira Lynch’s spiritual power were still quite obvious.
At this moment, more than half of Shirley Blackwood’s body was exposed, but its tail and lower body were still inside the cave.
Recalling that Black Wolf had said these people were after Shirley Blackwood’s tail, she figured they must be trying to force it completely out of the cave.
Moira Lynch squinted, carefully observing the distant battle. She felt a surge of annoyance. ’Not having night vision is a real handicap.’
First, she draped the prepared bearskin over herself, then activated the Illusion Cloak’s Invisibility ability. She then had Black Wolf continue to advance, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
’Everything happened too suddenly. There was no time to set traps. I’ll just have to bite the bullet and go in.’
’Fortunately, I’m not without my own means of attack.’
A rust-covered Tetanus Blade appeared in Moira Lynch’s hand.
This wasn’t an ordinary Tetanus Blade. It was one infused with the toxin of the Heavenly Dream Sea Snail.
Black Wolf glanced back at the rusty dagger in Moira Lynch’s hand and let out a soft whine. "Awoo."
’That dagger in your hand won’t do any damage to Shirley Blackwood.’
"Of course I know that."
’A rusty dagger like this would struggle to even scratch Shirley Blackwood’s scales. But all I have to do is avoid them.’
’And this Shirley Blackwood has plenty of wounds already.’
Even though it was heavily injured, the players were still no match for Shirley Blackwood. The good news was that they had managed to force it out of its cave.
When Moira Lynch saw the dazzling, multicolored tail studded with crystals, she finally understood why these people had targeted it.
Shirley Blackwood was now thoroughly enraged. It stopped dodging and paid no mind to its injuries, adopting a desperate, all-or-nothing fighting stance.
In the natural world, humans often seem weak, knowing only to flee from danger. But that’s because we don’t want to get hurt. When the fear of injury is gone, humans are no longer just humans, but terrifying, primal beasts.
The same was now true for Shirley Blackwood.
Before, it had held back, afraid to use its full strength because of its injuries.
Now, holding nothing back, Shirley Blackwood whipped its tail directly at one of the players.
This player’s talent was clearly some form of physical enhancement, as his body was several times larger than the others.
But even so, when Shirley Blackwood’s tail struck him, he was sent flying. His body slammed into a tree, shattering countless bones, and he died on the spot.
With the first casualty, the battle turned into a one-sided slaughter by Shirley Blackwood.
Just as Shirley Blackwood opened its mouth to swallow a player, Moira Lynch sensed the hidden player make his move.
She saw him decisively activate a nearby trap.
Two bent-down trees sprang up violently.
Something was tied between the two trees. The instant they sprang up, that object was launched through the air, landing squarely in Shirley Blackwood’s open mouth.
At the same time, the man shouted to the others, "Get down!"
Hearing this, Moira Lynch instinctively covered Black Wolf’s ears.
Immediately after, Moira Lynch heard a deafening explosion.
Even from a considerable distance, Moira Lynch’s eardrums throbbed with pain, to say nothing of Black Wolf and its sensitive hearing.
Fortunately, Moira had covered its ears a second before the explosion, or the damage would have been far more severe.
Moira Lynch couldn’t help but admire these people, especially the one who had launched the bomb. His timing had been perfect.
However, it seemed they had still underestimated Shirley Blackwood.
Blasted from the inside, Shirley Blackwood didn’t collapse. It struggled back to its feet and launched another attack on the players.
By now, with the exception of the man who launched the surprise attack, the rest of the players had lost their ability to fight. They were either dead or grievously wounded.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch knew it was time for her to make a move.
The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.
Moira Lynch threw the dagger in her hand, and it plunged straight into a patch of Shirley Blackwood’s exposed flesh.
