Zinia stomped her boots on the floorboards. "Then we crush him with the ceiling! I will bring the whole roof down on his head!"

"Do not break the ceiling, Zinia," Princess Iris commanded smoothly. "We are underwater. If the ceiling breaks, the lake will flood this entire room. We will all drown."

Luna lay on a dry patch of stone. The lightning user rubbed her sleepy eyes. She pulled her knitted blanket over her shoulders. She let out a loud yawn. "Drowning sounds very uncomfortable. Please do not break the roof. I just want to take a nap."

Risa hid behind Zinia. The sweet pink-haired healer hugged her stuffed teddy bear. "The ninja man looks very mean. I hope he goes away soon."

Reddy laughed a cold, mocking laugh. He raised his jagged black blade. Dark purple magic began to swirl around his boots again. He gathered a massive amount of dark mana. He prepared to trap them again.

"You cannot touch me," Reddy boasted loudly. "I am a master of the shadows. I will just cast my domain a second time. You cannot break it twice. You will die in the dark."

The dark ink started to spread across the marble floor. It moved very fast. It slithered toward the 13th Unit.

Ken Eliot watched the black ink moving. He chewed a red gummy worm. He slouched his shoulders even further. He looked completely bored.

"This is incredibly unoriginal," Ken complained lazily to himself. He stared at the assassin. "He is just spamming his ultimate attack. He has absolutely zero cooldown timers. That is a massive bug in the game design. The developers need to patch this immediately. Spamming the same move is a very cheap strategy."

Ken knew the girls were tired. Sayma had used a lot of mana for her shields. Naomi was breathing fast. If Reddy trapped them in the dark dome again, the girls would struggle. They needed to grab the glowing relic on the pedestal. They needed to win the points and leave.

"I cannot let him cast that spell again," Ken decided silently. "If we get trapped in the dark, I cannot read my comic books. It is too dark to read. I need to cancel his attack. I need a very bright distraction."

Ken looked around the chaotic room. He saw the fighting soldiers. He saw the glowing blue crystals on the ceiling. He saw an aquatic golem standing very close to Reddy.

The golem was fighting a 4th Unit guard. The golem raised its rusted trident. It stood exactly three feet away from the assassin.

Ken smiled a tiny, goofy smile. He kept his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He did not change his lazy posture. He looked exactly like a clueless bystander.

He focused his mind. He tapped into his absolute, god-like magic. He did not chant a spell. He did not make a dramatic hand gesture. He simply aimed his intention at the dark blue stone golem.

He secretly snapped his fingers inside his pocket.

Snap.

"Solar Flare," Ken whispered in his mind. He used a very classic anime technique name. He loved referencing his favorite shows.

The magic activated instantly. The spell hit the aquatic golem.

The golem stopped swinging its trident. It froze completely. A bright white light began to glow from inside its rocky chest. The light pulsed rapidly. It grew brighter and brighter. It illuminated the entire corner of the room.

Laxmi stopped preparing her fireballs. She stared at the glowing monster. Her golden eyes widened in pure shock.

"What is happening to that rock guy?" Laxmi asked loudly. She pointed her finger at the golem. "It looks like it swallowed a star!"

Sayma pushed her glasses up quickly. Her analytical mind instantly recognized the danger. The magical energy inside the golem was expanding at an impossible rate.

"Everyone close your eyes!" Sayma screamed politely but urgently. "The magical core is going critical! It is going to detonate!"

Naomi grabbed Ken’s arm. She pulled him downward. "Get down, Ken! Cover your eyes!"

Ken let her pull him down. He crouched on the floor. He covered his face with his arms. He put on a highly exaggerated expression of pure panic.

"Ahhhh! The rock is glowing!" Ken yelled loudly. His voice cracked with fake terror. "Rocks are not supposed to glow! This is a massive violation of geology!"

Reddy stopped casting his shadow spell. He looked at the glowing golem. He was standing right next to it. His cold eyes widened behind his dark mask. He did not understand what was happening. He tried to turn into smoke. He tried to jump backward.

He was entirely too slow.

The golem reached maximum capacity. The ancient magical core could not contain Ken’s immense, pure light mana.

The golem self-destructed.

It did not explode with fire. It did not explode with flying rocks. It exploded into a brilliant, absolutely blinding flash of pure white light.

The flash was spectacular. It looked exactly like a miniature sun igniting inside the underground vault. The light washed out every single shadow in the room. It erased the dark corners. It illuminated the ceiling. The sheer brightness was completely overwhelming.

The 13th Unit squeezed their eyes tightly shut. They turned their heads away. They shielded their faces. The light pierced right through their eyelids.

The 4th Unit soldiers dropped their axes. They covered their faces. They screamed in surprise. Gideon covered his eyes with his large metal gauntlets.

Reddy took the full force of the flash. He was standing far too close. The pure white light burned his retinas. The intense brightness completely scrambled his shadow magic. The dark ink on the floor evaporated instantly. The assassin was totally blinded.

The room was completely consumed by the brilliant, silent flash. Nobody could see a single thing. Everyone was temporarily blinded.

Ken Eliot crouched on the floor. He slowly lowered his arms. He opened his dark eyes.

The blinding light did not bother him at all. His eyes adjusted instantly. He could see the entire room perfectly clearly. He saw his teammates covering their faces. He saw the rival soldiers stumbling around blindly.

He looked at Reddy. The assassin was staggering backward. He rubbed his eyes frantically. He swung his jagged black blade blindly in the air.

Ken stopped slouching. He completely dropped his goofy, lazy act. He stood up perfectly straight. His dark eyes turned incredibly sharp and totally merciless. The goofy slacker vanished entirely. The true, absolute ruler of the shadows emerged.

He had a few seconds before the light faded. He had a few seconds before the girls opened their eyes. He needed to deal with the annoying assassin permanently. He needed to finish this fight right now.

Ken stepped forward. He walked directly toward the blinded assassin. He did not make a single sound. His cheap shoes did not scuff the floor. He moved like a true phantom. The real battle was about to happen in absolute silence.
