Chapter 593: Chapter 593 - I enjoy his company too much
"I have answered your questions," Coco said, her voice taking on a stern edge. She folded her arms across her chest, her borrowed features hardening with resolve. "If you want to know more, you have to pay."
Seraphine smiled dryly, the expression barely reaching her eyes. "You’re right. Thanks for the info." She paused, tilting her head as if considering something casually. "But your mother, does she live with you?"
That woman had done a lot of evil, had orchestrated so much pain and manipulation. Seraphine would indeed want her to pay, to face the consequences of her twisted games.
Coco smiled evilly, the curve of her lips sending a chill through the room. "You want her to pay for casting a spell on you?" A cruel laugh escaped her throat. "Nice try."
Seraphine’s blood ran cold. Coco was reading her mind, peeling back her thoughts like layers of an onion, and it was becoming terrifying. The intrusion felt invasive, violating. "V," she yelled, her voice cutting through the tension like a whip.
Coco’s confusion flickered across her features until she saw Voren stepping out of the closet, his expression grim and unyielding. His massive frame filled the doorway, his eyes fixed on Coco with cold fury.
Coco’s gaze dimmed, her confidence crumbling. She had been this close, so close to completely possessing Seraphine’s mind.
That was the reason she kept the conversation going, kept Seraphine talking, kept her distracted. But now, the process had been interrupted, violently severed, meaning she would have to start all over again. All that effort, wasted.
But how did Voren get in here? And when? Then it clicked, the pieces falling into place with sickening clarity. Jasmine did not play her game. She had betrayed her, had been playing a double game all along.
"The bitch betrayed me." The words hissed through Coco’s clenched teeth, venom dripping from every syllable. "I’ll let her pay."
Voren walked toward her with a grim expression, his footsteps echoing in the sudden silence. "You mean Jasmine?" His voice was flat, carrying no emotion.
Coco’s teeth gritted together audibly, her jaw tight with barely suppressed rage. Then her expression changed, softening into something almost pleading. "I want you back, Voren." She stared into his eyes, her gaze intense, probing.
For a moment, Voren’s expression flickered, a brief confusion clouding his features. His stance wavered almost imperceptibly.
Seraphine recognized what was happening instantly. Coco was trying to cast another spell, to worm her way into his mind, to twist his thoughts and memories.
She moved without thinking, her hand connecting with Coco’s face in a sharp, ringing slap. The impact sent Coco sprawling to the floor, her head snapping to the side with the force of the blow.
Voren’s confusion cleared immediately, his eyes sharpening with awareness. A dull headache sucked at him, but he still could not understand what had just happened, what invisible battle had been fought in the space of a heartbeat.
"What happened just now?" he asked, rubbing his temples as if trying to shake off a fog. His voice carried a note of bewilderment.
Seraphine’s eyes never left Coco’s crumpled form. "She’s trying to cast a spell on you." Her voice was tight, controlled. "She’s been trying to mess with my mind too." The revelation hung in the air between them, heavy with implication.
Voren was amazed by how quickly she had detected it, how fast she had recognized the threat and neutralized it. "How did you know it so fast?" Genuine curiosity colored his words, mixed with admiration.
Seraphine wanted to tell him that it was just as Marsha had said—that her powers had been heightened by the depth of his love. In the human world, it would only enhance her intelligence, sharpen her instincts. And now, she was glad to have it, grateful for every fraction of advantage it gave her.
Then again, it was all because of Voren. The more his love for her grew, the greater her powers became. When she decided to ask for Coco’s bank account, she had planned on hacking it, on using her skills to uncover the woman’s secrets.
But it happened faster than anything, the information flowing to her like water finding its level. "I’ll explain later," she said, her gaze still fixed on Coco on the floor.
Voren had heard and recorded everything from where he was hiding in the closet, his phone capturing every word, every confession.
He couldn’t believe how their lives had been intertwined with these deadly creatures called witches, how deeply the web of manipulation had spread.
But it was just as Seraphine had said—she didn’t like another woman having her image, and neither did Voren. The thought of Coco walking around wearing his wife’s face made his blood boil.
As such, they had a plan. That was why Seraphine had been so generous with money, why she had thrown millions at Coco without protest.
They had needed to keep her talking, to gather information, to understand the full scope of the threat. But then Coco got too greedy, pushed too far, and the game had changed.
"Where is your mother?" Seraphine asked again, her voice carrying steel beneath the weariness.
Coco rose to her feet slowly. "I won’t tell you." Her voice was stern, unyielding. "And don’t think you won."
Seraphine faked confusion on her face, tilting her head with mock innocence. "I don’t remember signing up for a contest." A dry smile curved her lips. "Please tell me, what’s the prize?"
Coco stared at Voren, her gaze fierce and possessive, burning with naked desire. "We’ve gotten stronger, Sera." The words came out like a warning. "Had you not detected it, Voren would have been mine."
Seraphine shook her head in refusal, the gesture firm and absolute. "Dream on." Her voice carried absolute conviction. "Even if I wasn’t here, Voren would not fall for your spell." She threw a glance at her husband, something warm and unshakeable passing between them.
Voren’s heart warmed at her words, at her unwavering faith in him.
"Then why don’t you excuse us?" Coco dared her, a taunting edge creeping into her voice.
Seraphine refused, her expression hardening. She wasn’t a fool, and she wasn’t about to give Coco any opportunity. "Sorry," she said with a sweet smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "I enjoy his company too much."
Disappointment flushed in Coco’s eyes, the green of jealousy and frustration warring behind her borrowed gaze. But before she could say another word, before she could form another scheme, Seraphine’s voice cut through the air like a blade.
"V, now."
Before Coco could understand what was happening, before she could react or defend herself, her face was on fire.
