Chapter 390: Chapter 390 - The mystery is unfolding right in front of us
Voren couldn’t hold his questions back any longer. The moment he stepped into the VIP ward, his eyes locked straight onto Seraphine.
She sat on the edge of the hospital bed, still reeling from the whirlwind of everything that had just exploded in that room. Doctor Finn stood close by, while Kael leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, tension humming through all of them.
"Sera," Voren said softly as he moved closer. "Can you tell us more about Madison and Einstein?"
Seraphine blinked hard, the sudden question slamming into her like a curveball. Confusion twisted across her face as she glanced between Voren and Doctor Finn. "What?"
Doctor Finn caught on immediately that she had no clue where this was coming from. A gentle smile pressed his lips into a think line. "It’s alright," he said, adjusting his glasses with a reassuring nod. "I already know."
Seraphine still looked utterly bewildered, but Doctor Finn chuckled softly, his voice warm and steady. "And when you head back to that ward, I’ll make sure nobody bombards you with ridiculous questions. Just focus on healing those warriors, then go get ready for your wedding."
Voren winked at her, and the sweet, intimate gesture sent a rush of warmth flooding Seraphine’s cheeks. Kael groaned dramatically, throwing his hands up. "Can you two lovebirds actually focus for a second? You do realize those warriors are gonna spread this news like wildfire, right?"
Doctor Finn nodded, his grin widening with barely contained excitement. "He’s not wrong. They’ll be telling everyone how Doctor Ash healed them. Soon she’s gonna be famous across the whole pack."
Kael jumped right in, his voice buzzing with energy. "People will be talking about her everywhere."
"Exactly," Doctor Finn said, snapping his fingers. "Then once you’re back from the city, Alpha Voren can casually drop that Doctor Ash and Luna Seraphine are the same person."
Seraphine let out a bright, surprised laugh. "That sounds like one hell of an oddly detailed plan."
"It is," Kael replied proudly. "We’ve clearly thought this through."
The room lightened for a brief, welcome moment before Seraphine’s expression grew serious again. "Still... what exactly do you want to know about Madison?"
Doctor Finn’s face softened further, all the playful excitement fading into something deeper and heavier. He glanced at Voren before speaking, his voice gentle but urgent.
"First, I don’t want you thinking you’re in any kind of trouble." He took a steadying breath. "Over a decade before you were born, the Gifted Wolves were being hunted down."
The room fell into a heavy, tense silence. Seraphine’s smile vanished completely, her stomach twisting with a rush of unease.
Doctor Finn continued, his eyes going distant with old memories. "I personally met one of the survivors. She came to me desperately seeking help. I created special contact lenses for her so she could hide her eye color." The implications settled over them like a dark cloud. "I believe that woman was your mother."
Silence crashed down hard. Seraphine stared at him, a hundred chaotic thoughts and emotions rushing through her all at once. Finally, she spoke, her voice quiet but steady. "No wonder Madison doesn’t have the same eye color as me."
Pieces of her fractured past suddenly clicked into place, but she wasn’t ready to leap to conclusions. "I’ll confirm everything when I see her. I need real certainty." Determination burned bright in her eyes. "And afterward, we’re going to find out exactly who’s been hunting us."
Voren reached for her hand immediately, his thumb brushing tenderly across her knuckles. Whatever storms and answers waited ahead, she wouldn’t face them alone, he’d make sure of that. The touch grounded her, sending a wave of fierce love and strength through her chest.
Doctor Finn nodded approvingly. "Until then, keep your wolf a secret. Everyone believes the last Gifted Wolf died centuries ago." He tilted his head thoughtfully. "Although... is Marigold yours?"
The question caught her off guard. Seraphine glanced at Voren, who answered without hesitation. "She’s Esperanza now. And yes, Sera is her biological mother." A brief shadow crossed his face. "Unfortunately, Ravyn is her biological father."
The room went deathly quiet. Doctor Finn looked horrified, but Voren’s expression stayed rock-steady. "But that changes nothing. Ravyn doesn’t know the child exists, and he never will."
Doctor Finn slowly nodded as everything clicked into devastating clarity. The little girl’s bright blue eyes. Emotion swelled thick in his chest. "Goddess," he whispered, his voice cracking with awe. "I never thought I’d live to see this."
He shook his head, eyes glistening. "It was always said that the White Wolf and Black Wolf should never be together. Yet here you are." A radiant smile broke across his face. "The mystery is unfolding right in front of us, and I hope the moon goddess keeps me around long enough to see how it ends before I join my ancestors."
Voren and Seraphine exchanged a deep, meaningful look. They both still had endless burning questions about the Gifted Wolves, Madison, her parents, the hunters, the Moon Goddess, and that mystery everyone kept circling.
Every answer only seemed to spawn ten more agonizing ones. But right now, more urgent things demanded their hearts: getting married in a few days. The thought alone filled Seraphine with a rush of pure, joyful warmth that made her smile softly.
Soon afterward, she returned to work. Word had already torn through the hospital like lightning. More doctors had rushed in, and additional patients had been moved into bigger wards to make everything smoother.
This time Doctor Finn ran perfect interference, shutting down any personal questions the second they popped up. As a result, Seraphine moved faster than ever.
Patient after patient. Warrior after warrior. That mysterious power surged through her again and again, leaving every doctor speechless with awe. By the end of the second hour, every single injured warrior was back on their feet, walking, running, laughing with wild relief. Several of them looked even stronger than they had before the injuries.
Kael personally oversaw every wolf transformation, refusing to take any chances. One by one the warriors shifted, their wolves emerging perfectly healthy and vibrant. Only after confirming every single recovery did he finally let Seraphine leave.
By the time Voren secretly escorted her back to the cabin, evening had wrapped the world in deep shadows. The snowfall had stopped, ice shimmered across the lake surrounding their secluded hideaway.
Seraphine stepped onto the frozen surface, the crisp cold air filling her lungs and sending a thrill racing through her. A bright smile lit up her face. "V," she said, turning to him with sparkling excitement. "Can I shift? Or do we need to leave this area first?"
Voren chuckled, his eyes softening with deep affection. "Our wolves can go places humans can’t. A run is more than fine."
That was all she needed. Moments later, clothes lay scattered near the frozen shore. Moonlight danced across the ice as power surged hot through their bodies. White fur. Black fur. Claws and fangs. The transformation flowed effortlessly.
Soon two magnificent wolves stood where the humans had been. Marsha’s white coat glowed ethereally under the moonlight, while Bloodfang’s black fur seemed to drink in the darkness itself. For a few charged seconds they simply gazed at each other, hearts pounding with wild connection. Then Marsha took off like a streak of lightning.
Bloodfang chased after her instantly, the thrill exploding through both of them. They raced across frozen lakes, over jagged rocks, through narrow mountain paths and territories few pack members ever dared to explore.
The world narrowed to pure freedom, no politics, no crushing mysteries, no heavy responsibilities. Just the wind tearing through their fur, the snow flying beneath their paws, and the overwhelming joy of running side by side.
Hour after hour flew by. They explored forgotten routes, hidden valleys, and ancient pathways carved between towering cliffs.
Sometimes Marsha challenged Bloodfang to breathless races; other times they simply ran together beneath the endless stars. Neither wolf wanted the magical night to end.
Eventually exhaustion finally caught up. More than twelve hours had passed when both wolves surrendered and shifted back to human forms.
Back at the cabin they showered quickly, the warm water feeling like pure heaven after the freezing exploration. Seraphine was practically falling asleep on her feet, and Voren wasn’t far behind.
They had barely settled in to rest before the journey back to the city when a sharp mindlink suddenly sliced through Voren’s mind, urgent, persistent, and clearly annoyed.
His eyes flew open. ’Alpha.’
Voren groaned inwardly. Of course it was Kael. ’What now?’
The Beta sounded like he was barely holding it together. ’The pack members are demanding to see Doctor Ash.’ His frustration poured through the link. ’And your mother... is already organizing a full celebration party in her honor.’
