Chapter 388 - If you ask the wrong question, you get the wrong answer
Chapter 388: Chapter 388 - If you ask the wrong question, you get the wrong answer
Doctor Finn’s eyes flew wide open, his glasses nearly sliding right off his nose in shock. "No..." The word came out as a stunned whisper. "It can’t be."
Seraphine turned toward him on pure instinct. The strange silver glow vanished as fast as it had exploded into existence.
One moment raw power had been surging through every inch of her body, and the next it was completely gone.
The glowing crescent moon mark on her hand disappeared without a trace, the brilliant light faded, and the room settled back into something almost normal, if a room packed with completely stunned doctors could ever be called normal.
For several long seconds, nobody moved. Nobody spoke. No one seemed able to fully process the impossible thing they’d just witnessed. Then a sharp gasp shattered the heavy silence.
The warrior on the bed, Burke, slowly sat up, moving with careful wonder. His eyes widened as he swung his legs over the side of the bed. The doctors rushed forward in a panic. "Burke!"
"Be careful!"
"Don’t push it!"
But Burke ignored them completely. He tentatively set his feet on the floor, and the second they touched down, his mouth fell open in pure disbelief. No pain. Not even the slightest twinge.
He stood up, took one step, then another, and another. The entire room watched in breathless awe as he stretched his legs, bent his knees, and twisted his ankles. Everything moved perfectly, like the brutal injury had never happened at all.
A disbelieving laugh burst out of him, growing louder until he was grinning from ear to ear, joy lighting up his whole face. "Are you some kind of miracle healer or what, Doc?" He locked eyes with Seraphine, his voice thick with raw awe.
Just minutes ago, he could barely walk, and now his body felt stronger and more alive than it had in months.
Meanwhile, Doctor Finn couldn’t stop staring at her. His expression twisted through a whirlwind of emotions-recognition, shock, disbelief, and a fierce spark of hope all battling across his face. "You..."
The word slipped out before he could stop it, his mouth snapped shut. A beat later he turned to Voren, his voice strained with tension. "Alpha, can we speak privately?"
Voren didn’t answer right away. His full attention stayed locked on Seraphine, the deep concern burning in his eyes impossible to miss. He crossed the room in powerful strides and stopped right in front of her. "Are you alright?"
The simple question nearly broke her. Goddess, she was nowhere near alright.
Everything crashing down on her today felt too big, too strange, way beyond anything she’d ever faced.
All she wanted in that moment was to bury herself against his strong chest and let him hold her tight until the chaos and confusion melted away. Instead, she swallowed hard and pushed the aching need down.
"I don’t know what the hell just happened," she admitted quietly, her voice trembling a little. "But I really need some fresh air."
Before Voren could respond, the patient in the second bed raised his hand. "Doctor Ash? What about me?" Several doctors traded awkward, uncertain glances. None of them knew what to say anymore.
They’d come expecting a medical lesson, but what they’d just seen was something entirely different, something that defied both science and traditional pack healing. One thing was crystal clear: this was not normal.
Voren’s jaw tightened with protective frustration. The last thing he wanted was Seraphine touching another patient until they figured out what the hell was going on.
"You need to wait," he said, his tone leaving zero room for argument. "We have to understand this first. We also need to make sure there are no consequences from his healing."
The other doctors quickly backed him up. "Alpha’s right. We need to monitor him."
"What happened could have side effects."
"We can’t risk letting her use that kind of power again until we know it’s safe."
Burke looked genuinely offended. "Side effects?" He flexed his fingers, rolled his shoulders, and laughed with pure relief. "I feel stronger than I have in ages."
His eyes shone with overwhelming gratitude. Before anyone could stop him, he dropped to one knee in front of Seraphine, stunning the entire room including her.
"I don’t know who you really are, Doctor Ash," he said, his voice thick with emotion, "but you saved my life." He lowered his head in deep respect. "Thank you."
The room fell into a reverent silence. Seraphine’s heart softened at the raw vulnerability in his words. She wasn’t comfortable with this kind of praise, especially when she barely understood what she’d done. A gentle smile brightened her face.
"You should thank your Alpha. He paid me a ridiculous amount to come here."
A few chuckles broke the heavy tension, even Burke laughed. Seraphine seized the lighter moment. "I still need that fresh air. I’ll be back soon."
She peeled off one glove, her mind racing. The truth was she desperately needed answers, and Marsha had been way too quiet during the whole wild incident. If anyone knew what the hell was happening, it was her wolf.
Doctor Finn stepped forward. "I can help with that. I’ll take you to an empty VIP ward so you can clear your head." His expression stayed thoughtful as he glanced at Voren. "And afterward, I can speak with our Alpha."
Seraphine didn’t miss the loaded look that passed between them. Clearly Doctor Finn suspected something big, but she was too grateful for the chance to escape to care. "Thank you."
A few minutes later she was finally alone in one of the hospital’s quiet VIP wards. The room was peaceful, comfortably furnished, and far removed from the whirlwind outside.
The second the door clicked shut, she let out a long, shaky breath. "Finally, silence."
Without wasting another second, she closed her eyes. ’Marsha.’
Nothing.
Seraphine frowned, her irritation rising. ’Marsha.’
Still nothing.
Her frustration boiled hotter. ’There isn’t time for your games. If I don’t understand where these powers came from, I can’t use them.’
A lazy yawn suddenly echoed through her mind, like someone had just woken up from a nap. ’Relax, little human,’ Marsha drawled, sounding completely unbothered.
Seraphine nearly groaned out loud. ’Relax? I accidentally healed someone with glowing moon magic!’
Marsha’s amusement rippled through her. ’Healing people isn’t an accident when had planned to treat their injuries.’
’Marsha!’
A rich chuckle filled her mind. ’Do you really think my powers are limited to only making you smart? I’m feared for a reason.’
Seraphine blinked hard. ’What does that mean?’
’It means there’s far more to me than you’ve seen. Much more.’
A sudden thought hit her. ’Wait...are you saying you have healing abilities?’
Marsha groaned dramatically. ’Wrong question.’
’What?’
’If you ask the wrong question, you get the wrong answer.’
Seraphine pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling the familiar exasperation that came with talking to her wolf. ’Then explain it properly.’
’Fine,’ Marsha said, sounding theatrical. ’Let’s say you already possess a skill. Any skill. My ability lets me amplify it, a lot.’
Seraphine frowned. ’Amplify how much?’
Marsha sounded smug as hell. ’Maybe a thousand times stronger.’
Seraphine’s mouth fell open in total shock. A thousand times? That was absolutely insane. ’You’re serious?’
’Very.’ The wolf sounded incredibly proud.
Seraphine struggled to wrap her head around it. Then another thought crashed in. ’So if my hacking skills are already good...’
Marsha laughed. ’Then you wouldn’t even need to touch a keyboard. Whatever exists in your mind would just appear on the screen. Of course, that can’t happen in the city. It can only happen when you are at a pack, any pack.’
Seraphine stared blankly at the wall, her whole understanding of her own abilities shattering and rewriting itself in real time. She shook her head slowly. ’Marsha... if we had access to powers like this, why didn’t you ever show me?’
The answer came instantly. ’Can you blame me? You spent years with that asshole.’ Marsha snorted. ’My powers flourish when you’re genuinely happy. For years, you weren’t.’
Seraphine’s chest tightened painfully at the truth. ’So what changed?’
A lazy, pleased laugh echoed through her mind. ’Isn’t it obvious? The only person who’s ever given you real happiness is Alpha Big Dick.’
Heat flooded Seraphine’s cheeks in a fierce blush. ’Marsha!’
The wolf’s laughter only grew louder and more delighted in her mind.
Before Seraphine could fire back, the door suddenly opened. She jumped, her head snapping toward the entrance. Voren stepped inside, with Doctor Finn close behind.
Neither of them looked amused. In fact, Doctor Finn looked strangely emotional, his eyes glistening.
Voren stared at her for several long, heavy seconds. Then he drew in a deep breath, his voice coming out carefully controlled but thick with feeling.
"Sera." The name hung in the air like a revelation. "Can you tell us more about Madison and Einstein?"
