Chapter 370: Chapter 200: Breaking Through Passes and Slaying Generals
And yet, Pei Ze had won the battle with ease!
It was absolutely unthinkable!
In that moment of distraction, Gong Quanhai felt a sudden wave of dizziness wash over his mind. ’This is bad,’ he thought immediately.
Before he could recover, four or five massive tentacles struck from all sides, lashing viciously against his body!
At the same time, the Memory-devouring Demon’s turbulent, violent psychic assault crashed over him like a tidal wave, frantically attacking the Spirit Crystal deep within his mind!
Utterly horrified, Gong Quanhai could no longer worry about anything else. He decisively activated the rune on the back of his hand, and his entire body instantly transformed into a streak of light, shooting skyward and vanishing into the blood-red void.
At the same time, one of the eight milky-white orbs of light floating above the numerous plazas suddenly hummed. It transformed into a pillar of white light that descended from the sky, landing upon Pei Ze.
Pei Ze was startled, but he quickly composed himself. Suppressing his instinct to resist, he allowed the pillar of light to envelop him completely.
The next moment, the pillar of light vanished, taking Pei Ze with it.
!!!
The Wizards who witnessed this scene all froze for a moment before the realization dawned on them.
It was obvious: the milky-white orbs of light above represented the number of people who could enter the fourth level.
Excluding Pei Ze, there were only seven spots left. The first to pass the trial would claim a spot. Once all eight were taken, passing the trial of the blood-red gate would be pointless.
Realizing this, Fei Xian, Wen Huachun, and Ye Sinan no longer held back, unleashing their full power to quickly slay their Wolf Snake Demons.
Three pillars of light descended almost simultaneously, and the trio vanished from the plaza.
Over fifty Wizards remained on the plazas, but only four spots were left. With so few spots for so many people, a mounting sense of urgency gripped the Wizards, and they all accelerated their pace, desperately trying to kill their demons faster.
...
When his senses returned, Pei Ze found himself standing on a brightly lit plaza.
Suddenly, a thunderous roar of cheers erupted from all around, crashing into his ears like a tidal wave.
Startled, Pei Ze looked toward the source of the sound and found it was coming from above the plaza.
Or more accurately, from the audience stands.
Only then did he realize that he wasn’t in a plaza at all, but an arena.
He was standing in a corner at the edge of the arena floor.
Towering walls rose on all sides, covered in densely packed rows of spectator seats.
There was no one in the stands—only endless seats and countless blurry, humanoid phantoms.
These humanoid phantoms were flailing about, seemingly in great excitement. The cheers he’d heard had come from them.
An arena, filled with phantom spectators—the scene was utterly bizarre.
As Pei Ze was surveying his surroundings, flashes of light flickered in the distance. Fei Xian, Wen Huachun, and Ye Sinan appeared almost simultaneously at the edge of the arena floor, each in a different spot.
After taking in their new surroundings, the three of them were visibly startled, but their expressions quickly returned to normal as their gazes flickered, sizing one another up.
All four of them knew that, barring any surprises, the final victor of the Battle of the Holy Ring would emerge from their number.
...
「Outside the Tower of the Holy Ring, on the plains.」
As time went on, streaks of light flew out from the rift one by one. They landed on the plains and vanished, revealing the figures of Wizards.
These were all Wizards who had been eliminated from the Battle of the Holy Ring.
After landing and finding his footing, a series of complex emotions flashed across Gong Quanhai’s face before he finally let out a long sigh, utterly dejected.
He had arrived with lofty ambitions, only to be eliminated before he could even pass the third level. It was, without a doubt, a massive blow.
"I never expected the Battle of the Holy Ring to be like this."
Gong Quanhai’s lips twisted into a bitter smile.
The alliance he had arranged with Yin Yao beforehand proved to be almost useless in the Battle of the Holy Ring.
Aside from briefly working together on the first level, they had no opportunity at all to cooperate on the second and third levels.
The designers of the Battle of the Holy Ring had clearly taken this into account; the trials on each level of the tower were designed to be faced almost exclusively alone.
Just as he was sighing, a streak of light suddenly landed beside him.
The light dissipated, revealing Yin Yao’s figure.
Gong Quanhai’s lips twitched into a bitter smile. "So you’re out, too."
Yin Yao sighed. "That Wolf Snake Demon was too much to handle. I almost lost my life in there."
After a pause, he added, "I saw Pei Ze enter the fourth level."
At these words, Gong Quanhai’s expression immediately became incredibly complex, tinged with a hint of embarrassment.
He had previously boasted to Yin Yao that he would defeat Pei Ze in the Battle of the Holy Ring and avenge Red Lotus City’s prior failure.
But thinking back on those words now, they felt incredibly ironic.
It was a good thing the trials on the first few levels of the Battle of the Holy Ring didn’t pit the participants against each other. If he had actually had to face Pei Ze, he was certain he would have been the one getting beaten to a pulp.
Pei Ze’s strength was, without a doubt, far greater than his own.
As if sensing Gong Quanhai’s embarrassment, Yin Yao clapped him on the shoulder. "Don’t let it get to you. After all, no one expected Pei Ze to have hidden his strength so well."
"From the looks of it, his strength is probably on par with Fei Xian and Wen Huachun."
Yin Yao couldn’t hide the deep emotion in his voice.
He and Gong Quanhai had been Level 3 Wizards for over three years, cultivating diligently without a moment’s rest to achieve their current level of strength.
And that was only because they were the Chosen, lacking for neither talent nor resources.
Otherwise, a normal, newly promoted Level 3 Wizard would probably still be stuck in the liquefaction stage after more than three years.
But then there was a monster like Pei Ze, who not only broke through to third-level crystallization in just over a year but had actually reached the same level of power as Fei Xian and the others!
