Chapter 276: Chapter 166: Arrival of the Elemental Mage, Advancement to Tier 4 Legend
After fleeing for over a hundred kilometers, the dark cloud of gloom hanging over them finally lifted a little.
But after a brief sigh of relief, their expressions grew heavy once more.
"I wonder how Pei Ze is doing," the Female Witch murmured.
The group looked at each other, at a loss for words.
Yin Xue bit her lip, her eyes filled with deep concern.
After all, their opponent was someone who had defeated a combat-specialized Level 3 Crystalized Wizard. Even with all their faith in Pei Ze’s strength, they didn’t believe he could possibly win.
He would be incredibly lucky just to escape alive!
Just then, a muffled groan suddenly rang out, startling them.
They looked over and saw that it was Ji Sheng who had woken up.
The group quickly helped Ji Sheng down, leaning him against a rock.
After opening his eyes, Ji Sheng coughed violently a few times before asking in a strained voice, "Wh-Where is this? And where is Pei Lingjie?"
The group exchanged glances, remaining silent for several seconds before Yin Xue began to explain in a low voice.
After hearing what had happened, Ji Sheng stared blankly for a long moment before sighing, his expression grim.
"Our planning was careless. We’ve doomed Pei Ze."
As someone who had fought Pei Lingjie firsthand, he knew just how terrifying the man had become after fusing with that evil entity.
Even if Pei Lingjie was injured and weakened from their battle, Pei Ze stood almost no chance against him.
The thought that a mistake by the Witch Hunting Team would cause Chenxi City’s most brilliant young genius to fall in this alien plane weighed heavily on Ji Sheng’s heart.
"...Have you called for backup?"
Yin Xue nodded. "I’ve already sent a distress call to the nearest colleagues."
"I’ve checked the map. The closest unit is on a mission in Pan Mountain City. They should already be on their way."
"Good."
Ji Sheng breathed a sigh of relief.
Now, they could only hope Pei Ze would hold out long enough. As soon as reinforcements arrived, they would immediately go back to help him.
Perhaps there was still some hope of saving Pei Ze.
At that moment, Ji Sheng’s expression suddenly shifted, and he looked up into the distance.
The others, as if sensing something too, all turned to gaze toward the distant horizon.
At the edge of the horizon, a streak of fiery red was rapidly approaching. It moved with the speed of a lightning flash, crossing several kilometers in the blink of an eye before arriving in front of them.
Only then did they realize the streak of red was a ball of scorching flame.
The flame landed with a HISS, contracting and rapidly coalescing into a human form.
In the blink of an eye, a tall, slender man with fiery red hair who looked to be in his early thirties appeared before them.
An Elemental Mage!
Ji Sheng and the others were startled, but their shock quickly turned to elation.
They had thought they would be lucky to get two or three Level 3 Wizards as reinforcements; they never expected an Elemental Mage to come personally.
With an Elemental Mage of at least Level 4 on their side, defeating Pei Lingjie would be a simple matter.
"Are you the ones who called for aid?"
The Red-haired Wizard’s gaze swept over the group as he spoke in a deep voice.
"Yes, sir." Ji Sheng struggled to his feet. He opened his mouth to speak but then hesitated.
The Red-haired Wizard glanced at him, unconcerned, and casually tossed him a token.
Ji Sheng caught the token and glanced at it, sighing in relief. He then held the token with both hands and respectfully offered it back to the Red-haired Wizard.
"Ah, Lord Wu Ping. Forgive my disrespect."
Wu Ping!
Standing nearby, Yin Xue felt a jolt of shock.
She recognized the name. He was one of the two vice-commanders of the Silver Light Legion’s Third Division, and one of the most powerful experts among all Level 4 Wizards.
Rumor had it that among all the Level 4 Wizards in Chenxi City, his power was great enough to rank him firmly in the top five.
’To think such a powerful expert would be the one to reinforce us.’
Wu Ping casually put the token away and said calmly, "Spare me the pleasantries. Report your situation."
"Yes, sir." Ji Sheng knew there was no time to waste and quickly recounted the events.
When he finished, Wu Ping raised an eyebrow slightly.
’A Level 3 Wizard who fused with an evil entity?’
’And it seems his control over its power has reached a significant level; otherwise, it would have been impossible for him to punch above his weight and defeat a Level 3 Crystalized Wizard.’
Wu Ping was, of course, aware of the Dawn Council’s operation to purge the Pei Family; he had even been personally involved in its planning.
’But it seems our plan had a few oversights.’
’The Pei Family’s research on these evil entities is clearly far more advanced than we anticipated.’
’There are likely more people like Pei Lingjie out there.’
’It looks like this purge mission will be more turbulent than we thought. It won’t go as smoothly as we planned.’
Countless thoughts flashed through Wu Ping’s mind in an instant, but his expression remained impassive as he gave a slight nod.
"I understand the situation. You head back to Red Maple City first. As for Pei Ze, I’ll..."
Wu Ping stopped mid-sentence, a strange look on his face.
Seeing his reaction, the group couldn’t help but feel confused.
"Sir, what’s wrong?" Yin Xue asked quickly, trying to suppress her anxiety.
She was desperate for Wu Ping to leave at once. The sooner he found Pei Ze, the greater his chances of survival.
Wu Ping glanced at Yin Xue, a cryptic smile playing on his lips. "It seems you were worried for nothing. And it looks like I won’t need to intervene, either. That young man, Pei Ze, is far more formidable than you imagine."
Everyone froze. It took them a long moment to process Wu Ping’s words before they whipped around to look.
Sure enough, a figure was rapidly approaching from the distance.
It was, without a doubt, Pei Ze!
Ji Sheng and the others stood frozen to the spot, their eyes wide with utter disbelief.
’Pei Ze is fine!’
’Then what about Pei Lingjie?’
’Did Pei Ze actually manage to get away from him?’
