Chapter 263: Chapter 159: The Blood of an Ancient Creature, a Hair’s-breadth Crisis
The moment the incantation sounded, the Divine Body Golem seemed to react. A hollow, hoarse roar suddenly erupted from its throat.
In that instant, an inexplicable sense of oppression, despair, and hatred descended upon everyone on the battlefield.
Even the mindless golems were affected, halting their movements to gaze up at the sky.
High in the sky, a jet-black light radiated from within the Divine Body Golem as its form began to change rapidly.
Its massive body twisted and writhed like a mollusk, rapidly morphing into all sorts of bizarre shapes. Myriad faces churned to the surface, letting out roars of agony and rage as their features shifted in a blur.
In the blink of an eye, the ugly Frankenstein’s Monster vanished. In its place stood a slender, handsome man.
He wore a gray cloak over form-fitting chainmail, and his eyes glowed with a dark red light.
What was more striking were his ears, which were long, narrow, and angled slightly upward.
These were the features of an elf.
But unlike fair-skinned elves, his skin was black.
He was, quite clearly, a Zor.
Also known as a Dark Elf.
A dark race that lives in the Dark Territory, worships the Spider Goddess Rose, and thrives on betrayal and assassination.
"Huh!"
Annie let out a soft sound of surprise.
"It’s Siventam. That guy actually died at the hands of Chenxi City?"
"No wonder I haven’t heard anything about him in so long."
"Who’s Siventam?" Gu Lin once again played the part of the curious child.
Annie didn’t answer. Instead, she looked at Pei Ze, as if to test him.
Pei Ze thought for a moment before saying in a low voice, "Siventam is the warrior guardian god of the Zor, a cruel and belligerent Divine Spirit. He’s also known as the Champion of Rose."
"Is he strong?" Gu Lin asked.
Pei Ze shook his head. "Siventam is a lesser Divine Spirit, and a weaker racial god at that. As far as gods go, he’s among the weakest."
Realization dawned on Gu Lin. "You know so much," he said, full of admiration.
Annie smiled in approval. "Indeed. There are countless Divine Spirits in the Multiverse. Not many Level 1 Wizards can hear a name and immediately state its origin."
Pei Ze just smiled and said nothing.
’Thanks to the Eye of Omniscience, I’ve recorded nearly every book in the High Tower Academy’s library.’
’After joining the Ring of Truth, I bought and scanned even more.’
’When it comes to sheer breadth of knowledge, most Level 3 Wizards probably can’t compare to me.’
Pei Ze quickly snapped back to the present and looked up at the sky.
Even if Siventam was one of the weakest gods, he was still a genuine Divine Spirit, with power that far surpassed a Sixth-level Wizard.
With a flash of dark light, a heavy Nail Head Hammer appeared in ’Siventam’s’ hand.
In an instant, its speed increased severalfold. It flashed to the Silver Frost Disaster Wolf’s side, its Nail Head Hammer tearing through the void. Wreathed in an impossibly deep black light, it smashed down hard on the wolf!
The Silver Frost Disaster Wolf let out a bloodcurdling scream as a deep gash was instantly torn open in its side, sending blood spraying into the air.
It turned and snapped its jaws, but ’Siventam’ dodged with fluid grace.
The golem was no longer the lumbering oaf it had been; it now moved like the wind, its actions impossibly swift.
The Nail Head Hammer in its hand smashed and cleaved, beating the Silver Frost Disaster Wolf into a sorry state.
In the blink of an eye, the tables had turned. Now, it was the Silver Frost Disaster Wolf on the defensive.
Seeing this, the Wizards were overjoyed, while in contrast, the Turin People looked as if their world had ended.
Among the onlookers, only Pei Ze was indifferent to the shifting tides of battle. His gaze was completely fixed on the blood dripping from the sky in the distance.
That was the Silver Frost Disaster Wolf’s blood!
Pei Ze’s eyes gradually began to shine.
’Ever since I used Pei Zhanqing’s blood to refine the Yugro Giant Serpent Bloodline Mark, I haven’t found a suitable ancient creature’s bloodline to work with.’
’I was planning to look for a suitable Magical Creature back in Chenxi City to research a new Bloodline Mark.’
’I never expected a golden opportunity like this to just fall into my lap.’
’The Silver Frost Disaster Wolf is a genuine, pure-blooded ancient creature!’
’If I can get its blood, I can definitely refine a powerful Bloodline Mark countless times stronger than the one from the Yugro Giant Serpent!’
Pei Ze’s heart pounded with excitement, his eyes flashing.
A few seconds later, he gritted his teeth and made his decision.
’An opportunity this rare... if I miss it, who knows when I’ll get another chance.’
’I have to risk it!’
Taking a deep breath, Pei Ze shot forward, rushing toward the Silver Frost Disaster Wolf.
"Pei Ze?" Gu Lin was stunned. His eyes widened in shock. "What are you doing?"
Pei Ze ignored him. With a flicker of his will, he had already cast numerous Enhancing Spells on himself.
Endurance!
Resist Energy (Cold)!
Protection from Energy (Cold)!
Haste!
...
After casting every Enhancing Spell he knew, Pei Ze then applied over a hundred layers of Mage Armor in one go.
When all that was done, he still felt it wasn’t enough, so he activated his Burning Flame Robe.
Instantly, a faint, scorching heat enveloped his body, dispelling most of the surrounding chill.
He had also long since replaced the Lightning Rune on his gear with the defensively superior Earth Rune.
Enhancing Spells, the Burning Flame Robe, the Earth Rune, Silver Star Fusion...
Wreathed in his many protections, Pei Ze charged toward the center of the battlefield like a gale.
The five-kilometer radius around the battle between the Divine Body Golem and the Silver Frost Disaster Wolf had long since become a forbidden zone, devoid of any living creature besides the dead.
