After the End: Mari's Second Life

Chapter Thirty: The Orbital Retribution (Uncensored & Relentless)

The freezing ocean gale whipped violent salt spray across the razor-sharp ledge, but it couldn't cool the suffocating, fever-pitch heat radiating between them. Adrian refused to loosen his crushing hold for a single microsecond, his massive, corded arms keeping Mari locked dead-flush against his chest while Lena frantically hammered commands into her cracked tablet, feeding the raw, uncompressed back-door payload straight into the hijacked relay dish perched on the cliff edge.

"The relay is locked into the orbital defense grid!" Lena gasped, her breath catching in her throat, her eyes blown wide with manic, terrifying triumph. "The satellite cluster is in position right over our heads! We have total command authority, Mari—you just have to pull the trigger!"

Mari turned her head, pressing her burning cheek against Adrian’s solid chest for one single, grounding heartbeat. The white-hot agony in her forearms shrieked through her nervous system as she raised her hands toward the pulsing holographic projection floating above Lena’s screen, but she didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second. She slammed her neural interface straight into the sub-net, ruthlessly bypassing safety protocols and flooding her mind with a roaring, blinding river of raw code.

The physical world instantly vanished, replaced by a vast, glowing matrix of corporate data-streams and lethal orbital weapons platforms.

"I've got them in the crosshairs," Mari whispered, her voice ringing out with a cold, absolute, godlike power.

Across the continent, deep inside the gleaming, obsidian skyscrapers of the corporate headquarters, emergency klaxons began to wail in catastrophic harmony. The high-tier hit squads currently descending in armed troop transports toward their exact cliffside coordinates suddenly watched their cockpit navigation systems flatline and turn blood-red.

"What the hell? They're locking us out of our own flight paths!" a squad leader screamed into his comms just as his transport's thrusters violently reversed into a tailspin.

"Do it, Mari. Burn them," Adrian growled, his lips burning against her temple, his heavy, calloused hands branding her hips as he anchored her consciousness through the digital storm.

With a fierce, merciless mental shove, Mari triggered the payload.

High above the atmosphere, the corporate defense satellites pivoted in unison, locking their devastating kinetic strike arrays directly onto the enemy's primary command complexes. A fraction of a second later, blinding columns of white-hot, earth-shattering energy slammed down from the heavens, obliterating the gleaming towers into smoking, pulverized craters of glass and molten steel in a single, cataclysmic stroke.

The sonic shockwave of the distant explosions rolled across the ocean, washing over the cliffside like a triumphant, roaring wave.

Mari gasped, violently shattering the neural connection and slumping back against Adrian with a ragged, exhausted shudder. Adrian caught her instantly, his arms banding around her with fierce, possessive devotion as he crushed his mouth to hers, rewarding her absolute victory with a deep, punishing, utterly consuming kiss that tasted of copper and triumph.

Sera laughed—a dark, beautiful, feral sound—pressing her cool hand firmly over Mari's racing pulse point while Lena buried her face against Mari's shoulder, weeping with manic, unhinged joy.

The empire was nothing but smoking rubble. And the sky belonged entirely to them.
