Chapter 436: Chapter 422: Battle: To Be Continued

The curtains were pulled open, and light flooded the dim office.

Jiang Xia threw open the window and cranked the air conditioner to its highest setting to clear the air in the room.

A faint blush spread across Lin Yanwan’s face as she shot Jiang Xia an embarrassed, annoyed glare. Seeing her resentful look, Jiang Xia looked back sheepishly.

"You beast. Are you satisfied now?"

’Her eyes swam with shame, but her face was burning hot. She couldn’t believe she’d gone along with another one of his ridiculous requests. Did that mean... she liked the thrill, too?’

’That guy... just because he’s the boss, is he really not afraid of someone finding out?’

After all, she had a reputation to uphold.

"You can go explain this to Godmother yourself in a little while!"

Lin Yanwan took a deep breath and hopped off the desk. She went to the water cooler and poured herself a glass of water to calm her racing heart.

She gathered the design sketches that were scattered all over the floor. The office door opened slowly, and Jiang Xia strolled calmly toward the restroom down the hall. When the receptionist saw him, she immediately walked over to the Vice President’s office and knocked softly on the door.

"President Li, President Jiang is awake now."

’Hearing the word "awake," Li Weiya’s lip twitched. She glanced at the clock—over forty minutes had passed. ’Young people have some serious stamina,’ she mused. ’Going at it in an office for that long...’

"Alright, I understand. You may go."

"Yes, President Li."

The receptionist excused herself, a flicker of confusion in her mind. ’Didn’t President Li say the boss’s wife was in her office for a meeting? Why didn’t I see her?’

’Li Weiya wondered if she should go report to Ah Xia. Going now would just be awkward. But if she didn’t, there was still that missed call on his phone. It was obvious she’d been trying to reach him about something urgent.’

’After a moment’s thought, Li Weiya decided to drop it. She would act as if nothing had happened and take the secret to her grave. She wouldn’t mention it to a soul.’

At that moment, Jiang Xia was at the urinal, also wondering if he should call Li Weiya or just go see her and ask what was up. If he didn’t, wouldn’t it look like he had a guilty conscience?

With that thought, Jiang Xia headed back from the restroom and walked into Li Weiya’s office.

"Godmother, were you looking for me earlier?" he asked, his expression calm. "I was a little tired, so I took a quick nap in my office. I had my phone on silent."

"That explains why you didn’t answer when I knocked."

Li Weiya chuckled. "Oh, it was nothing major. Just wanted to show you this month’s financial report. We’re up 70% compared to last month. Both the merchandise and animation divisions have seen significant growth. Here, take a look."

She said, handing him the financial report.

"Hmm, this is a bit faster than I’d anticipated."

Jiang Xia took the report with a soft smile, his eyes briefly scanning Li Weiya’s face. He saw nothing out of the ordinary and breathed an inward sigh of relief.

"Alright. Well, I’ll let you get back to work, Godmother. I’m going to head back to my office."

He turned to leave, but Li Weiya suddenly spoke up. "Ah Xia, if you’re feeling tired, just go home and get some sleep. You’ll rest more comfortably where no one can disturb you."

Jiang Xia froze. The weight that had just lifted from his shoulders came crashing back down, and an inexplicable guilt washed over him.

"Okay, Godmother," he said, keeping his expression neutral.

’After leaving her office, Jiang Xia kept mulling over Li Weiya’s last words. At first glance, it seemed like a normal expression of concern from an elder. But when you considered the second half—"You’ll rest more comfortably where no one can disturb you"—was she hinting at something?’

’Could it be... Godmother knew he and his wife were fooling around in the office? Was this her way of telling him to be more careful next time?’

HISS—

The thought made Jiang Xia suck in a sharp breath.

’Still, judging by her attitude, it seemed like Godmother was planning to turn a blind eye. In that case, as long as he brazenly stuck to the story that he’d just locked the door for a nap, he should be fine, right?’

Back in his office, Lin Yanwan glanced at him. "You went to see Godmother?"

She pressed her lips together, hesitating for a moment before asking, "Did... did she find out about anything?"

Jiang Xia answered sheepishly, "She said that if I’m tired in the future, I should go home to sleep. Said I wouldn’t be disturbed there."

Lin Yanwan’s breath caught in her throat. Her face flushed red as she said, mortified, "She definitely guessed!"

"This is all your fault! You just had to do it in the office. Are you happy now?" she said, giving him a resentful look.

’The mere thought that Godmother might know they were doing... that... in the office made her ears burn. It was just too humiliating.’

"It’s not a big deal. As long as we deny everything, we’ll be fine," Jiang Xia said reassuringly.

"That’s easy for you to say, but she’ll still be imagining all sorts of things..."

"You say that as if Godmother doesn’t already know we’re sleeping together. Besides, she’s not going to tell anyone."

Lin Yanwan shot him a harsh glare. "This is the last time, either way. No more office ’passion’ for you!"

’After all, getting caught once was mortifying enough. She couldn’t bear the thought of other employees finding out.’

Jiang Xia was dumbfounded.

"Babe..."

"Hmph! Give me the keys. I’m going to the garage to wait for you."

Jiang Xia handed over the car keys with a pitiful look. Lin Yanwan snatched them without a second thought and turned to leave. But just as she stepped out of the office, she ran right into Li Weiya. A jolt of panic went through her.

"Godmother."

"Yanwan. Here to see Ah Xia?" Li Weiya said with a smile.

"Yes, I was just reminding him not to work too hard and to take a break," Lin Yanwan said, her tone level. She did her best to act natural, betraying no hint of anything unusual.

"That’s true. Ah Xia is usually so busy. He’s the backbone of this company; we can’t have him collapsing from exhaustion."
