After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 311 - 308: The Drunk Girls
Chapter 311: Chapter 308: The Drunk Girls
Two hours later, under the astonished gazes of the servers, Qiuting was finally too embarrassed to eat any more. The buffet had left her completely stuffed.
"So, should we go sing now?" Cui Jiaying suggested.
Her gaze fell on a KTV not far across the street. Groups of young men and women were constantly going in. They were probably all Tsinghua students, looking to let loose after their exams were over.
"Let’s go."
Qiuting followed behind with mixed feelings. She had never been to a place like this in her life, assuming a KTV was like a bar from the stories—a huge hall packed with countless men and women jumping around like lunatics.
But instead, a waiter led them into a small, private room where you could select whatever songs you wanted to sing from a console.
She found it all rather novel.
By now, Cui Jiaying had already grabbed a microphone and started singing. A server also brought in a few bottles of beer, some snacks, and a fruit platter.
Lin Yanwan sat on the sofa and took out her phone to text Jiang Xia her current location. She didn’t know when she’d be able to go home tonight and figured she might need Jiang Xia to come pick her up later.
"Have you eaten?"
"Yeah, ordered takeout. Noodles with pickled cabbage and shredded pork."
"You’re still at the company?"
"Where else would I be? My dear wife ran off to have fun, leaving me with nowhere to go but to work overtime at the company."
Reading his reply, Lin Yanwan could feel the deep resentment in his words.
"Alright, alright. Si Si and the others are going home in a couple of days, so I’m just keeping them company. If we’re not done by midnight, come and get me."
"As you command, my dear."
Lin Yanwan smiled faintly. She put down her phone and saw Si Si and Cui Jiaying singing a love song duet, and their vocals were surprisingly good.
"Qiuting, why don’t you go pick a song?" she asked, turning to look at Qiuting.
"Um... I don’t really know these pop songs, and I’m not a good singer," Qiuting said shyly.
"It’s okay if you don’t know how. You can just sing along with the original track. You’ll get the hang of it after a few tries. You’re not still shy around us, are you?" Lin Yanwan said with a laugh.
Qiuting shook her head. The three "sisters" were all very nice to her. It wasn’t that she was shy, but being in a place like this for the first time, she felt a little too reserved to let loose.
"Sister Yanwan, why aren’t you singing?"
"Me?"
Lin Yanwan sighed with feeling. There were plenty of songs she knew, but in this parallel world she’d been reborn into, they simply didn’t exist.
She had checked the Mandopop charts long ago and found that many familiar classics were missing. That was why she had told Jiang Xia before that she wanted to be a singer. With the music library from her past life, she could easily become a top star in the Chinese music scene in this life.
’But... oh well. If I get the chance in the future, being a music producer wouldn’t be bad either.’
With Qitian Animation backing her, she could easily become a hit just by singing a few theme songs for their animations.
"You guys go ahead and sing," she said with a small smile, finding it quite interesting to watch Si Si and Cui Jiaying sing back and forth.
She didn’t think much of it. After all, the two of them had always been close, sometimes even squeezing into the same bed to sleep. Two girls singing a love song duet at KTV was perfectly normal.
"Hey, you two, don’t just stand there now that we’re at a KTV! Either pick a song or have a drink!"
Cui Jiaying put down the mic, filled everyone’s glasses, and said with an excited look, "Girls, to the friendship of 520A, cheers!"
"Jiang Xia doesn’t let me drink. Can I use water instead?" Lin Yanwan asked, sighing softly as she looked at the large, full glass of beer.
"Yanwan, we agreed before: no boyfriends today! Look, I never drink either, but I’m drinking now~"
Cui Jiaying picked up a glass and forced it on Qiuting. "You too, Qiuting! The karaoke is on me tonight, so just go wild! Let’s party all night, AWOO!"
Lin Yanwan and Tang Qiuting exchanged a helpless glance. They really couldn’t win against her, so they had no choice but to take a small sip.
She could have refused, but she really didn’t want to spoil their fun.
"Hehehe, that’s more like it! I don’t care how you drink it, but everyone has to finish their two bottles of beer."
After saying this, Cui Jiaying and Si Si started a drinking game. They took turns singing one line of a song at a time. Whoever couldn’t continue the lyrics or sang off-key had to take a drink.
Lin Yanwan watched them, thinking that at the rate they were drinking, they’d probably be drunk in no time.
’Is this what they call letting loose after exams?’
’This old lady, reborn, really doesn’t get it.’
"Qiuting, if you can’t handle your liquor, just drink less or don’t drink at all. If those two get drunk later, we’ll be counting on you to get them home," Lin Yanwan said seriously.
Qiuting gulped, nodded, and felt the immense weight of the responsibility.
By the time one song was over, Si Si and Cui Jiaying had both drunk nearly half a glass. Under the spinning lights of the private room, their cheeks glowed with an intoxicating, rosy flush.
"Qiuting, hurry up and pick a song to sing!"
Cui Jiaying forcibly stuffed the microphone into Qiuting’s hands. Qiuting pursed her lips, took a deep breath, walked to the console, and hesitantly selected a folk mountain song.
The style of music suddenly changed, and the other three were momentarily stunned. Then, they started clapping and cheering her on, all while laughing.
"Yanwan, why aren’t you singing?" Cui Jiaying asked, sitting down beside her and posing the same question.
"Fine, I’ll go sing a few."
Lin Yanwan sat down at the console and scrolled through the list of artists in the song library, finally settling on Rene Liu’s "Later."
Si Si handed her the microphone, then sat on the sofa and pulled Cui Jiaying into a number-guessing game. Having had a bit to drink, both of them were now a little hyper.
After a while, they pulled Qiuting into their game, leaving Lin Yanwan to sing by herself, bored.
A little later, she glanced back at the three of them. There was no way Qiuting was a match for those two seasoned pros. After just a few words, they had her chugging one beer after another. Her face quickly turned red; it seemed a big appetite didn’t equate to a high alcohol tolerance.
Lin Yanwan sighed silently. ’I miscalculated. Turns out I’m the designated den mother after all.’
"Yingying, wanna go to the... the bathroom?" Si Si was already a bit drunk, her words carrying a puff of alcohol-laden breath toward Cui Jiaying.
"Mmm... not yet."
"Come on, let’s go together."
"Ngh..."
Si Si forcibly dragged Cui Jiaying away. The two of them staggered as they pushed open the door of the private room and headed for the restrooms outside.
Lin Yanwan glanced at Qiuting, who was lying dazed on the sofa, already somewhat out of it. She figured they probably wouldn’t be pulling an all-nighter after all.
Once they were all drunk, she would just get them a room with a king-sized bed at a nearby hotel. That would be the end of the night, and she could go back to the apartment with Jiang Xia for a good night’s sleep.
...
(Happy Children’s Day, everyone. Oh wait, I forgot I’m not a child anymore... but I can always have one! Good night!)
