After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World
Chapter 2171: Virion’s Wives
Both wives were daughters of nobles here. Before they got married, both women were considered top women to marry, though for different reasons. While the dinner went on, they found out a lot about the circumstances of the marriage.
The first wife, Gadia, was the only child of a powerful noble family in Warrior City, while his second wife, Lerea, was beautiful, gentle, and virtuous.
Information like this naturally wasn’t spread out casually. The gossip came from no other than Lord Valhalla himself.
He was very happy and excited to speak about his progress. For example, last week, he was able to do basic skills. Lately, he was on the verge of gathering and storing enough aether to do an intermediate skill. The man, a little inebriated, even went to the yard to show off.
It had been decades since he had used this skill, so he was naturally very excited to make use of it.
The technique in question was called the Cracking Punch. He punched the ground, and it would create a small earthquake in that area.
It was his go-to technique in his youth whenever he was surrounded by mobs or enemies, imbalancing most of those surrounding him for a couple of seconds.
Althea and the others clapped, appearing very impressed.
It was during this high that Garan and Virion started competing with how many glasses of booze they could take in. The two wives patiently stayed in the room, quiet, sipping tea, eyes on Virion.
Valhalla chatted with Althea and told her these stories, though naturally he said it quietly so the two women in question wouldn’t overhear.
The first wife, Gadia, was a beautiful woman with flashy red hair, more saturated than Virion’s. She seemed to be the valiant kind, at least in appearance.
Virion had been her bethrothed to Gadia since young. It was just that Virion thought of her as a sister until then, while Gadia was groomed to be his bride, so the relationship change was naturally awkward.
Allegedly, Virion found it torture to sleep with her. He liked her as a person and as a friend, but sleeping together affected the relationship negatively.
This knowledge became common knowledge in time, and it wasn’t a surprise that Virion’s next wife was the gentle flower that looked like she could be blown away by the wind.
Like with Gadia, they barely spent time together, and the woman spent most of her time in her garden or socializing.
"Scumbag," Althea said, shaking her head in disapproval. Garan also looked at Virion as if he were the lowest scum.
Virion went to follow Garan, who wanted to go to his wife, not seeing his own wives at the side.
Viron quickly raised his hands at the curses, having an idea about what they had been talking about. He was about to say ’they were forced on me’ but that would be too impolite, especially when the women were right there.
"I think our current status quo is peaceful enough. I treat them with respect and make sure they don’t lack anything in terms of material things, okay?"
If it were up to him, he would still be single, but again, he didn’t say it out loud. The two wives were not bad women, and he considered them as his friends. They were all just unlucky to have been shoved at each other’s throats.
Besides, he really hadn’t been unfaithful. Since getting married the first time, he had not slept with anyone else other than his wives!
In the standards of these aborigine men, this was already considered conservative. One had to know that 99% of noblemen were definitely much worse.
This was why Althea and Garan didn’t really hold this onto him and did not judge him too harshly. People’s standards and world views were just different and they wouldn’t impose their own on someone else, let alone people older than them by several years.
Pushing these aside, they of them simply spoke of the couple’s adventures on the other side, while Virion was pushed to play host to his wives.
"What’s the use of those muscles if you can’t be a proper man?!"
...
The humans were partying, the dwarves and the orcs were as well.
The dwarves were not allowed to go outside for their own safety, but the orcs were. The orcs from Quo Town, like Nuki the deer, had been here for a few weeks, so they knew more about the City.
Their idea of fun was different from humans so Althea asked the Quo Town orcs to show the new orcs around.
Most of the orcs from Quo Town were also new to the city, and they also marveled at the tall buildings and the sheer density of humans.
Even the densest orc settlement did not have the tiniest fraction of the human population. Seeing so many living things in a single area was quite overwhelming.
"Be careful not to bump into them," one of the Quo town orcs said. "Though humans here are more tolerant of us, there are still many foreigners. Simple bumping could create a serious conflict."
Bable tilted his head, confused. "Why?"
The orc was speechless. It was only now that they remembered these orcs hadn’t encountered humans before Lady Althea!
"Er..."
"Uhm.."
How to explain the fact that they were hated—or at least looked down on—in most parts of the world?
The orc could only shift the topic back to the tour.
He had no idea that many of his attempts to be a tour guide were actually misleading.
For example, he pointed at the beast cart. "That is called the Cart. They carry humans who can’t walk anymore."
Incidentally, the time they saw someone going down a carriage was when the noble was extremely pampered and had to be carried around, causing this misunderstanding.
Some minutes later, he pointed at the Mercenary Hall. "That building eats people." Because he had seen large groups of people enter and never come out again.
Another ’victim’ of the series of misunderstandings was the Bathhouse. They overheard people say things like ’It felt like I swam in hot soup and I liked it.’
To the orcs, their impression of this place was therefore: "That is where people willingly get cooked."
And so on.
Anyway, a City was a whole new world for Bable and the rest of them. They were asked to just follow the Quo Town orcs and behave. They were given money by Althea before, and they were able to fill their arms with food every street they passed by.
If there were idiots who dared make trouble, they were allowed to fight back within the rules, but otherwise, they could just run to the villa.
Anyway, the Lord was right there.
