After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret
Chapter 528: Breaking the Deadlock
Adrian Paige froze.
For a moment, he couldn’t answer her question.
Myra Lawson, however, knew Nina Jacobs’s personality. She took the walkie-talkie and explained the situation.
"Oh? A zombie tide?"
Nina Jacobs feigned ignorance, but she mulled over Myra Lawson’s words.
According to Myra Lawson’s description, as long as they could find a way to temporarily seal off the zombies emerging from this pier, the tide could still be turned.
This location was crucial, which meant the zombie tide was preventable.
"So that’s how it is. You should have just said so sooner.
Right, I also need Liaoyuan Crystals from the Weapons Research Institute—the more, the better. And some Water Element Superpower Users or Ice Ability Users..."
Nina Jacobs listed her demands one by one.
Her tone was as familiar as if she were talking to family.
And Myra Lawson noted down every item.
Her attitude was as earnest as if she had just met her saviors.
"Nina, are you really okay up there?"
Daniel Hale couldn’t help but ask.
"I’m fine. It just means I’ll probably be getting home later than planned."
Nina Jacobs replied.
"Nina Jacobs, don’t worry. As long as you can resolve this crisis, you can name your price in Crystal Cores afterward."
Myra Lawson said smoothly.
Adrian Paige watched from the side, looking at the person who was usually the most difficult to deal with, Myra Lawson.
’In the past, she was always the one making demands of others. But now, before this Nina Jacobs had even said a word, she was already making a proactive offer?’
"Good. I’ll wait for you here."
A satisfied smile appeared on Nina Jacobs’s face.
’Dealing with acquaintances really is easier.’
However...
Nina Jacobs looked down at the shifting layer of ice.
If she were to completely seal this area off as Myra Lawson hoped, it would be a true test of her Superpower Energy.
Before anyone arrived, Nina Jacobs took out several "Superpower Energy Stones" from her storage and quickly used the Source Stones to replenish the Superpower she had just expended.
Fortunately, these "Superpower Energy Stones" were all "fully charged."
By the time Myra Lawson arrived with reinforcements via the underground passage, Nina Jacobs was still using her Superpower to Control the liquid flames on the ice’s surface.
When Adrian Paige saw Nina Jacobs in person, he was incredibly surprised.
She looked very young, her vibrant face holding a touch of immaturity.
To be more precise, she was in excellent condition, showing no signs of weakness from Superpower exhaustion.
Daniel Hale was completely relieved after seeing Nina Jacobs. He didn’t go forward to disturb her, instead continuing to use his Spiritual Element Superpower to scan and report on the surrounding situation.
"We’ve already stationed enough troops on the main roads nearby. As long as we cut off the source here, we can guarantee a zombie tide won’t form for at least 30 hours."
Myra Lawson explained, holding an electronic map.
"I understand. Let’s get started right away."
Nina Jacobs said.
"Miss Jacobs, here are 120 Liaoyuan Crystals. It’s the entire current stock from the Weapons Research Institute."
A man in sunglasses walked over, holding two boxes full of Liaoyuan Crystals.
Nina Jacobs took one and handed it to a curious Nia Quinn, who was standing nearby.
Then she said to the man, "Thank you, this is more than enough."
It was clear Myra Lawson was cooperating with her completely. She remembered Chelsea Walsh saying that Liaoyuan Crystals were very difficult to requisition.
Yet the Weapons Research Institute had sent someone to deliver them so quickly.
"I see. This thing is indeed ingeniously designed."
After a brief look, Nia carefully placed the Liaoyuan Crystal back.
Nina Jacobs continued to focus all her effort on the river’s surface.
Just then, the man in sunglasses froze on the spot.
He took off his sunglasses, revealing he only had one eye. The other must have been damaged by some external force and was completely stitched shut.
"Miss Bell? Are you the Professor Bell?"
Walter looked at Nia Quinn, his voice trembling with excitement.
Even though Nia was currently bundled up tightly, her voice and highly recognizable face allowed him to identify her.
This was the internationally renowned genius girl with unparalleled talent in weapons manufacturing—Miss Bell!
Nia Quinn blinked and replied, "I go by Nia Quinn now."
"It really is you? This is wonderful!"
Walter was so excited he didn’t know what to do with his hands.
Nina Jacobs overheard their conversation. ’Looks like I won’t have to find a position for Nia separately...’
At that moment, the ice on the river was still melting.
Although the river was wide and long, Nina Jacobs’s liquid flames could flow in all directions, even melting the ice from beneath the surface.
With the addition of numerous Liaoyuan Crystals and the continuous melting effect of the Fire Element Superpower on the ice, the group could now smell the stench rising from the water below.
It was the smell of a polluted river from before the apocalypse.
The thick ice of an entire river had actually been melted.
"The temperature is minus 66 degrees. As soon as the Fire Element Superpower is gone, the surface will freeze again quickly."
Adrian Paige said.
"Mhm. So before it freezes, we need to seal this place off with an ice wall.
Otherwise, the zombies from the other side will just keep pouring in."
Nina Jacobs had already heard Adrian Paige’s self-introduction earlier, and she could tell that Myra Lawson’s attitude toward him was not ordinary.
’This man must hold a high position in the command center.’
"You’ve consumed too much energy. You can leave the rest to us."
Adrian Paige said.
It seemed Nina Jacobs had been holding out here alone for over seven hours.
For any other Superpower User, this would have been utterly draining.
Not to mention, they had been killing zombies here for two days and two nights prior to this.
Nina Jacobs nodded.
In weather so cold that water froze mid-drip, the moment she stopped melting the ice with her Fire Element Superpower, the black river water would begin to freeze over.
In the distance, tens of thousands of zombies had gathered on the ice again. Many had already jumped into the black water, but fortunately, they couldn’t swim across the dark river.
Below, Adrian Paige and Myra Lawson led a group of Water Element Superpower Users. The black water surged up like a curtain, controlled by their Superpowers and rising into mid-air to form a water wall tens of meters high.
Under the Control of Adrian Paige’s Wind Element Superpower and the other Water Element Superpower Users, the wall shot up even higher. It then rapidly turned to ice in the frigid air.
Along the hundred-meter-long riverbank, an unending ice wall gradually took shape.
The ice wall stood tens of meters tall.
Nina Jacobs had already withdrawn her Fire Element Superpower. She gazed at the spectacular ice wall. Though the river was long, at least this zombie entry point at the abandoned pier had been completely sealed.
"This plan was proposed before, but the endless stream of zombies on the other side of the river made it too dangerous. We had no way of even starting."
Myra Lawson remarked with emotion.
No one would have thought of melting an entire river, because it seemed impossible.
She never expected that Nina Jacobs’s return would bring such a huge, pleasant surprise.
In the extreme cold, this ice wall would not only block the zombies but would also grow stronger and stronger.
"It seems City D Base is full of hidden talents."
Adrian Paige said.
He had never heard anyone mention her before.
Myra Lawson could hear the probing tone in Adrian Paige’s voice. They had indeed never mentioned Nina Jacobs, but that was at Nina’s own request.
She took the opportunity to change the subject. "Since we have a breakthrough here, I plan to mobilize the entire army to decisively prevent the zombie tide from forming."
Adrian Paige nodded.
"What does she want?"
"What?" Myra Lawson asked, confused. Who was he referring to?
Adrian Paige pointed up at Nina Jacobs standing above them and asked:
"If we need her cooperation, what does she want?"
He had heard the promise Myra Lawson made to Nina Jacobs.
’Is it Crystal Cores she wants?’
"Her?"
Myra Lawson smiled and shook her head. "I think all she wants is just a guarantee."
