After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 85: Julian Fletcher Said I Am His Wife
Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Julian Fletcher Said I Am His Wife
"Don’t... love him anymore..."
I entered Sebastian Lancaster’s room and was suddenly pinned against the wall by him.
He told me not to love him anymore.
He was talking about Julian Fletcher.
"I don’t love him anymore," I said, my head lowered and my voice a little hoarse.
"Liar..." He said I was lying.
"I..." I wanted to explain, but he trapped my chin, and the rest of my words were forced back down my throat.
His breath was scorching, and the room felt hot.
I was still terrified of him. When he got serious, he was frightening. "Asher..."
When I called him Asher, he seemed to become a little more rational.
Sure enough, his icy eyes froze for a moment when I called his name. He let go of me with a heavy sigh, probably afraid of hurting the baby in my belly.
"Cece... Don’t leave me again. Don’t lie to me again..."
He kept saying "again."
It was as if he was saying Cecilia Caldwell had lied to him many times before.
But I couldn’t remember.
...
That night, Sebastian Lancaster seemed incredibly persistent, holding me tight and refusing to let go for a long, long time.
Perhaps because I’d been caught in the rain, I developed a slight fever during the night. I was drowsy, and my head throbbed painfully.
Memories that didn’t belong to me slowly seeped into my mind.
"If you want to control Sebastian Lancaster, you must become like someone. Her name is Cecilia Caldwell..."
"You have to learn her expressions, her mannerisms, her every move. Even a simple gesture, a single phrase, must be exactly like Cecilia Caldwell."
"Only then can you make Sebastian Lancaster keep you by his side, and then, step by step... get your hands on the Lancaster Group’s shares."
"No..."
"I am Cecilia Caldwell..."
I struggled in my dream, struggled against those memories.
’Who was that speaking? Was it the murderer? No, the voice was wrong.’
"No, I am Cecilia Caldwell."
I woke with a start, sitting up abruptly, my breathing ragged.
Sebastian Lancaster was sitting by my side, holding a towel and looking at me with concern.
"Asher..." A sudden fear washed over me, and I hugged Sebastian Lancaster almost instinctively.
Sebastian Lancaster’s body stiffened for a moment before he softly soothed me. "Did you have a nightmare?"
I nodded, my thoughts a complete mess.
’This Silvia Lynch... she really has too many secrets.’
"It’s okay. I’m here." His voice was very hoarse, yet it always felt familiar to me.
"Go to sleep. You have a fever. You’ll feel better after you get some rest."
...
I drifted into a heavy sleep. I don’t know how long I was out, but when I woke up, it was already noon the next day.
"Asher..."
"Where’s Sebastian Lancaster?" I asked as I walked out.
"The young master went to the office." All the maids in the Lancaster family had been replaced with new ones. I can’t believe I didn’t notice yesterday.
The maids now were all unfamiliar faces.
’When were they replaced?’
"What about Peach, who was here before?" I asked tentatively.
The maid lowered her head. "I’m sorry, Ma’am. I don’t know any Peach. My name is Faye."
I said nothing. These new maids were clearly much more respectful toward me.
"Tell the butler I’m going to the office."
"Very well." The new maid nodded and turned to find the butler.
"Ma’am, I’ve already arranged for the car." When the butler came in, I was completely stunned.
The Lancaster family’s old butler had always served the old master. ’How... was even the butler replaced?’
"The previous butler..." I was puzzled.
The old master is incapacitated, and there’s no one in charge of the Lancaster family right now. ’Who could have replaced the entire staff from top to bottom?’
"The previous butler fell ill and has retired. I am the new butler. From now on, if you need anything, Ma’am, you may give me your orders directly."
I was a little dazed. ’Who did this? Asher? He shouldn’t have that kind of power or influence, right? After all, everyone in the Lancaster family treats him like a fool. There’s no way he has that kind of capability.’
I got into the car absentmindedly, rubbing the bridge of my nose.
Lately, I’ve had a bad feeling that I can’t quite put my finger on...
I just feel like something is about to happen.
BUZZ. My phone rang. Surprisingly, it was Madeline Quinn.
Ever since I "died," Madeline Quinn’s personality had become somewhat cold. She had given almost everything to solve the case and catch the murderer.
My heart ached for her, but I didn’t know how to help.
She didn’t believe a word I said.
"Erin Whittaker lost the baby. That lunatic is still after her. Luckily, the police found her in time. She only lost the child."
My heart clenched. The murderer was still stubbornly trying to kill Erin Whittaker.
"Why are you telling me this...? Don’t you distrust me?" I asked quietly.
’I wonder why Madeline Quinn is suddenly telling me all this.’
"Erin Whittaker said she wants to see you," Madeline Quinn said flatly.
"See me?" I was taken aback.
’Why would Erin Whittaker want to see me? I’m Silvia Lynch right now.’
"Yes, you. Silvia Lynch," Madeline Quinn’s voice was cool.
An inexplicable panic fluttered in my chest. "When?"
"Six o’clock this evening. I’ll wait for you at the entrance of Meridia Hospital."
"Okay."
After hanging up, I stared blankly out the car window.
’Erin Whittaker specifically asked to see me? Does she know Silvia Lynch, too?’
"Are the Lancaster Group and the Fletcher Group discussing a partnership today?" Since the butler was driving me personally, I asked casually, unsure if he would know about company affairs.
"Yes..." The butler nodded.
’He actually knows what’s going on with the company.’
"Did Julian Fletcher come in person?"
"Yes."
I frowned. Erin Whittaker had just lost her baby. ’Julian Fletcher must have heard the news, right? How could he possibly be in the mood to discuss a partnership? The man is truly cold-hearted... Didn’t he love Erin Whittaker so much? Wasn’t he the type to fuss over her for ages if she so much as scraped her hand? Now that the baby is gone, he’s acting like nothing even happened?’
"We’re here."
We arrived at the company, and I got out of the car.
I looked up at the Lancaster Group’s office building and marveled inwardly. As expected of the leading enterprise in Meridia’s business world. This entire building... it all belonged to the Lancaster family.
"President Fletcher, this way, please."
What rotten luck. I had just walked into the company when I saw Julian Fletcher walking in as well.
Julian Fletcher obviously saw me too, and his gaze froze for a split second.
His assistant had no sense at all and let us into the same elevator.
There were only a few of us in the elevator, but the air felt heavy and suffocating.
When we reached the second-floor lounge area, a crowd of employees suddenly got on. I was pushed back, and someone abruptly raised a hand, bracing it against the elevator wall to shield me in the corner.
I looked up instinctively and met Julian Fletcher’s gaze. Instantly, my stomach churned violently.
’Just as I thought... The sight of him now makes me physically ill.’
His gaze was complex, as if he were trying to see right through me.
"President Fletcher seems to be in high spirits. I heard your wife lost her baby. Hah... And you’re still in the mood to discuss business," I sneered sarcastically.
Julian Fletcher’s body stiffened. He spoke in a low voice, "She’s not my wife."
"Hah? Weren’t you two madly in love before?" I found him disgusting. ’Is he already tired of the old and looking for someone new?’
"My wife’s name was Cecilia Caldwell. She’s already passed away," he said suddenly, claiming Cecilia was his wife.
It was as if I’d heard something filthy. I glared at Julian Fletcher with rage, the words spilling out of me almost instinctively. "You’re shameless! When did she ever become your wife? Don’t you dare tarnish her name!"
Julian Fletcher’s gaze on me grew even more complicated. It took him a long moment to finally speak. "Cece..."
