After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 79: Julian Fletcher’s Beloved Wife’s Tomb?
Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Julian Fletcher’s Beloved Wife’s Tomb?
Asher is the type to act first, talk later. When it’s time for action, he won’t waste a single breath on his opponent.
I finally managed to pull him back, just in time to see Erin Whittaker being carried out, her dress stained with blood.
Julian Fletcher furrowed his brow, turning with a hint of impatience to take Erin Whittaker. He left with a dark expression on his face.
I watched the subtle shift between Julian Fletcher and Erin Whittaker with great interest.
’Is Julian getting tired of her? Ha, what a scumbag.’
From what I know of Julian, it won’t be long before Erin Whittaker experiences the same Hell he put me through if she insists on clinging to him.
"Asher, let’s go." I took Asher’s hand and led him away.
Once outside the hotel, I saw Julian Fletcher hand Erin Whittaker off to a friend instead of going to the hospital with her.
I linked my arm through Asher’s, a sarcastic smile on my face. "Asher... See? People are so fickle. Fickle to the point of being disgusting."
"No..." Asher denied it.
I let out a small sound of surprise and looked up at Asher.
"I... won’t change." He averted his gaze, the tips of his fair ears turning a faint red.
I froze for a moment, then my smile grew even more sarcastic.
’What is it about him that won’t change? The part that sees me as a substitute?’
"If you won’t change, then why are you so good to me? We’ve only known each other for a few days, right?"
’Asher and Silvia Lynch didn’t know each other for long, either.’
"Because you’re Cecilia Caldwell," Asher said suddenly, his tone dead serious.
Hearing him say my name so bluntly still made my heart clench.
’Just as I thought. He’s stubbornly treating Silvia Lynch as a stand-in.’
"Cecilia Caldwell..." I murmured. Asher had always called me Cece, not Silvia.
"What if you’ve got the wrong person?" I tested the waters carefully, afraid he would have another breakdown like last time.
"I know you’re Cecilia Caldwell." He reached out and grabbed my fingers, speaking again with absolute certainty. "No matter what you look like, I can recognize you."
He was too serious, so serious it made me a little flustered.
Even Madeline Quinn couldn’t recognize me. No one would believe me even if I admitted it myself.
This is a secular age; there’s no talk of ghosts and spirits.
A perfectly fine person like me died, only to be reborn in someone else’s body. If I told anyone, they’d probably have me committed as a mental patient.
But Asher... this person everyone called a lunatic, firmly believed I was Cecilia Caldwell? Was he just deceiving himself, or had he really discovered something?
"You... How did you find me?" I asked in a low voice.
Asher squeezed my fingers tightly and spoke softly. "The moment you opened your eyes, I knew you were Cecilia Caldwell."
’So it really is just a madman’s fantasy, not that he actually discovered I’m Cecilia Caldwell.’
"I just knew... it was you," he said obsessively, his voice trembling slightly.
I didn’t dare provoke him further. ’He can think I’m whoever he wants. I just want to know the truth.’
"It’s okay if you don’t remember me..." Asher pulled me into his arms. "I’ll stay with you."
He whispered that he would stay with me, as if he were forgiving something.
My heart was beating strangely, a feeling I’d never had before.
’I don’t remember him? I forgot him... What role did he play in my life? Why can’t I remember at all?’
The driver came to pick Asher and me up, just as we saw Julian Fletcher abandon Erin Whittaker to go to the hospital alone and drive off with a strange look on his face.
I propped my chin on my hand, staring out the window at Julian Fletcher.
"You want to see where he’s going, don’t you?" Asher asked, then told the driver, "Follow him."
I looked at Asher in astonishment. ’This guy is terrifying... Is he a mind reader?’
I didn’t say anything, quickly averting my gaze, not daring to meet Asher’s eyes.
He really was like some kind of 19th-century warlock from the Vesperan nations. Just one look was enough to make your heart pound with fear.
Those eyes were so beautiful you felt like you could drown in them.
The driver secretly followed Julian Fletcher all the way, watching as he drove toward the outskirts of the city.
’Is he... going to Montis Cemetery?’
I stared at the cemetery in surprise as Julian Fletcher parked his car and walked into the grounds.
’He ditched Erin Whittaker and came to a cemetery. How laughable...’
"Is my... my body buried here?" I asked in a hushed voice.
Asher gripped my hand tightly. "After your body was found, everyone said Julian Fletcher went crazy. He fought with the police over your body and was detained for twenty-four hours. After the autopsy was finished, it was Julian’s mother who came to claim your body for cremation and burial. To punish him, his mother didn’t tell him where your ashes were buried. I heard he knelt in the courtyard and begged her all night before she finally told him."
Asher said that after I died, Julian Fletcher went crazy.
In all this time, no one had told me what happened after my death.
’Julian Fletcher went crazy?’
If all this was true, then he really did go crazy.
Asher and I hid in the car, watching Julian Fletcher walk to a gravestone, his figure solitary and sorrowful.
He just stood there, looking like he was about to fall apart.
He took out a bouquet of roses and placed it in front of the tombstone.
But I just felt like it was... dirty.
’Don’t defile my grave.’
"It must be his madness that’s defiled my path to reincarnation..." I muttered, really wanting to curse Julian Fletcher to death.
’Was it because of him that I couldn’t be reincarnated and was reborn like this instead?’
"Why isn’t he leaving yet?" I was getting impatient.
’What’s he doing just standing in front of my grave?’
Julian Fletcher didn’t leave. Asher remained silent.
After a long while, Asher finally spoke. "Hmph. He often stands here for a whole day."
I frowned. ’This Julian Fletcher really has gone crazy.’
Thankfully, he didn’t actually stand there all day.
At some point, he took a phone call, his expression changed drastically, and he turned and left in a hurry.
I waited until he had driven far away before I got out of the car and walked curiously toward my own gravestone.
I had often wondered what it would be like after a person died.
So, this is what it feels like after you die.
Looking at your own tombstone.
It was very strange.
"What?" I walked up to the tombstone, my good upbringing instantly shattering.
On the tombstone, it actually said "Beloved Wife Cecilia Caldwell"?
"Whose beloved wife? Is he even human?" My fingers trembled with rage.
Asher reached out to hug me and pointed to the name engraved above mine. "Fletcher..."
In that instant, I just felt my stomach churn violently.
’Tomb of the Fletcher’s Beloved Wife... Julian Fletcher?’
Ha...
’Beloved wife?’
Why did he have to disgust me even after my death?
How can a person be so disgusting!
He was the one who told me to die, and after I died, he... continues to disgust me? Won’t even let me rest in peace?
Losing control, I kicked away the flowers in front of the tombstone, picked up everything Julian Fletcher had brought, threw it all away, and grabbed a rock, wanting to destroy the words on the monument.
’So disgusting.’
Asher held me tightly, stopping me from smashing the words on the tombstone. "Let him write whatever he wants... I won’t... I won’t give you up to him, Cece... You belong to me."
My stomach was churning, and I was truly triggered by those two words: "beloved wife."
’Beloved wife? How ironic.’
