Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Cecilia Caldwell Had a Mental Illness Before Her Amnesia?

Asher looked at me innocently. "Cece... my hand hurts."

He’d slyly gotten the nurse to put the IV in his less-injured hand, and now he was telling me it hurt.

’So now I have to wait on him hand and foot? Even help him with his pants...?’

I suddenly understood what Lucas Grant had said: ’Just keep acting. Who could possibly out-act you...?’

Asher’s eyes reddened. "Cece... you’re my wife."

"Stop right there!" I steeled myself. He got hurt saving me, after all. The doctor said he couldn’t get out of bed, so I guess I had no choice but to take care of him.

Picking up the hospital supplies the nurse had brought, I pulled the privacy curtain, my face flushing. I held out the urinal. "You do it yourself..."

"My hand hurts..."

I gritted my teeth. "Sebastian Lancaster, don’t push it."

He just looked at me innocently.

I puffed up like a blowfish in anger, then helped him...

And then I heard him say, "Cece... I don’t have to pee anymore."

"..." ’Can I kill him?’

"Cece, you’re too fierce. You scared it so much it swelled up."

"..."

"Sebastian Lancaster!"

...

After ten minutes of me twisting his ear and lecturing him, Asher finally, aggrievedly, admitted he was wrong.

I huffed, sitting on the edge of the bed to feed him some soup. "Drink more. You’ll get better faster."

"Cece..." Asher was clearly scheming something again when an uninvited guest appeared in the hospital room.

That’s right... Julian Fletcher. He was like a persistent ghost.

Asher’s expression instantly darkened. How could I have forgotten our rooms were next to each other? Julian had external injuries, too.

"Cece, my wound hurts so much. Can you give me a kiss?" I didn’t turn around and hadn’t seen Julian yet. Asher was suddenly acting cute, and I didn’t want to deal with it.

"Cece... it hurts so much," Asher choked out, pulling at his wound to show me. "Cece, I got seven stitches."

I had no choice. I just wanted him to shut up, so I steeled myself, got up, and slowly leaned toward him.

His hand miraculously wasn’t hurting anymore. He pressed on the back of my head and kissed me.

’I knew he was up to no good.’

At the doorway, Julian Fletcher’s body stiffened for a moment, his eyes dark as he stared at Asher.

The pressure in the room dropped as Asher’s gaze grew visibly cold.

He was obviously provoking him.

Sensing someone behind me, I quickly straightened up. When I turned, I saw Julian Fletcher with a wounded expression on his face.

"Cece..." he called my name.

I frowned at him. "President Fletcher, you’re recovering pretty quickly. Already up and running around?"

’His injuries were so severe, yet he can get out of bed. How come Asher, with just a superficial wound, can’t?’

Julian Fletcher seemed a little nervous. "Can we talk?"

"No," I refused flatly.

Julian Fletcher didn’t give up. Over the years, he had come to understand me, and he knew threats were more effective. "I’m sorry, Silvia. Your grandmother is critically ill. She’s in emergency care... I couldn’t reach you and heard you were here."

I froze.

’Grandmother?’

’Silvia Lynch’s grandmother...’

I had been too afraid to visit her in the hospital before, worried she would find out I wasn’t Silvia.

"Grandma, she..." I felt a pang of guilt. The old woman was getting on in years. Since I was occupying Silvia’s body, I had to go see her.

"She’s being treated in the emergency room. I’ll take you there," he said eagerly.

"That won’t be necessary." I glanced back at Asher. "You stay here and finish your IV. I’ll be right back."

Asher’s eyes were hostile as he glared at Julian Fletcher, about to get out of bed to come with me.

"The doctor said you can’t get out of bed. Be good," I said, forbidding him from following.

Now he was being hoisted by his own petard.

His fingers clenched into a fist as he stared at Julian Fletcher.

This time, Julian Fletcher’s gaze was even more provocative.

"Whether she’s Cecilia Caldwell or Silvia Lynch, I will take her from you," Julian Fletcher warned Asher.

He walked to the door and spoke again. "Sebastian Lancaster, I took her from you once, and I can do it a second time."

Not long after I left the room, I heard a loud CRASH. I was worried and wanted to go back to check on Asher, but Julian Fletcher spoke urgently. "Your grandmother’s condition is critical. The doctor has issued a critical condition notice. You’re her only relative, and they need your signature."

...

「Emergency Room.」

Grandmother was still in surgery. A doctor came out once to tell us to prepare for the worst and had me sign some forms.

I was panicking, my hands clasped in prayer, hoping the old woman would be all right.

’She may not be my grandmother, but she did raise Silvia all these years.’

’Besides, I’ve taken over her granddaughter’s identity.’

"Her life is no longer in immediate danger. We’ll move her to a ward for observation. She’s elderly, and with 90% blockage in her cerebral blood vessels, we don’t recommend surgery for a stent at her age. Just pay close attention to her. This was a sudden myocardial infarction. It’s a miracle she was saved."

I nodded quickly, thanking the doctor, and stayed by her bedside.

"Cece, Grandma will be fine," Julian Fletcher comforted me in a low voice.

His voice grated on me. "Julian Fletcher, what does this have to do with you? This is my grandmother. You can leave now."

"Cece..." He insisted on calling me Cece.

"Cece, can we please have a real talk?" His voice was hoarse as if he was about to explain himself. "It’s not that I didn’t love you..."

I frowned. His words made me sick, and my stomach churned. "Get out."

"I read the diary you wrote... You said I didn’t love you, that I always despised you and didn’t trust you..." Julian Fletcher lowered his head, muttering to himself, though I couldn’t tell who he was speaking to.

’He seems convinced that I’m ’Cecilia Caldwell’ and is desperate to make amends.’

’How pathetic.’

"I do love you... Cece, I love you more than anyone. I just couldn’t believe you would ever love me." Julian Fletcher’s voice was raspy as he grabbed my wrist. "You were clearly... so against our arranged marriage. You were the one who didn’t want to marry me. You were the one... who had a crush on someone else when you were young. You were the one... who never had eyes for me. I couldn’t believe, I refused to believe, that you would fall in love with me. I thought..."

"You thought Cecilia Caldwell had ulterior motives?" I sneered, shaking off his hand. "Julian Fletcher, you’re so full of yourself. The most tragic thing that ever happened was Cecilia loving you."

Julian Fletcher hung his head, looking completely powerless with guilt. "I just..."

He wanted to explain.

But he was powerless to explain.

"Silvia... Noelle," Grandmother murmured in her unconscious state, calling out Silvia’s and Noelle’s names.

The two families’ children had been switched at birth. It was also possible that Noelle’s biological parents had switched them intentionally back then.

But Noelle’s biological parents had both passed away when Silvia was in her teens. The Lynn Family never investigated the matter. In fact, they doted even more on Noelle, the daughter they had raised, while treating Silvia as an uncultured country girl they feared would bring shame to the family.

Noelle was, after all, the grandmother’s biological granddaughter. It was only natural for her to be on the old woman’s mind.

But no matter how much she thought of her, Noelle would never come to see her.

"Cece... when you came to my family at eighteen, you were seriously injured. You were in a coma at the hospital for seven days. When you woke up, you seemed to have forgotten a lot. You asked me, ’Was it you who saved me?’ I was so selfish back then... I let you believe it. I admit it was my fault," Julian Fletcher said in a low voice.

He was talking about the past.

"My mother said your condition was already unstable, but the amnesia made you forget you had a psychological illness. It was a blessing in disguise. But I always felt... that you were faking it. That you were pretending, all for the sake of your parents’ death, for everything related to the Fletcher Family."

Julian Fletcher just kept talking, completely ignoring whether I wanted to listen or not.

I’d found him annoying, but when he said I was "sick," my body instinctively stiffened. I turned to look at him. "What do you mean? Cecilia Caldwell had a psychological illness?"

"You forgot..." He looked up at me. "When you were little, at the orphanage, someone locked you in a pitch-black basement for a long time... When my uncle and aunt found you, you were semiconscious. For many years after that, you were receiving psychological counseling."
