After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 109: Julian Fletcher Bought Me a Lollipop
Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Julian Fletcher Bought Me a Lollipop
Assistant Foster stared warily at the end of the alley. "Who’s there?"
I panicked and turned to hide, but someone clapped a hand over my mouth and dragged me into a nearby shop.
"I told you, you’d regret sticking with Sebastian Lancaster." Behind me, I heard Julian Fletcher’s voice.
I froze for a moment, then frowned and looked at Julian Fletcher cautiously. "Don’t you have anything better to do, President Fletcher?"
"Just passing by," Julian Fletcher said teasingly, reaching out to grab a mango-flavored lollipop for me from the small shop’s shelf.
He probably mistook me for Cecilia Caldwell.
He knows Cecilia often had low blood sugar, so he got a lollipop for me.
The ridiculous part is, he didn’t even know Cecilia was allergic to mangoes.
"Who do you think I am, President Fletcher?" I asked in a low voice.
Julian Fletcher didn’t say a word.
I sneered. "I take it you didn’t know Cecilia was allergic to mangoes, President Fletcher?"
I made no move to take the lollipop from him and turned to leave.
Julian Fletcher stood frozen in place for a long time before suddenly lunging forward and grabbing my wrist again. "I’m telling you to divorce Sebastian Lancaster for your own good."
With that, he eagerly pulled me into his car.
A moment later, Assistant Foster came out and got into his own car.
Julian Fletcher started the engine and followed Assistant Foster’s car.
"The Lancaster Family is always cleaning up Sebastian Lancaster’s messes. He’s caused a lot of trouble over the years, and Owen Foster has always been the one to handle it. He’s only here today to see Howard Finch to clean up another mess for Sebastian," Julian Fletcher said grimly. "Since Cece gave you her house keys and told you so much... she must have considered you her best friend. I can’t let anything happen to you."
"?" I laughed. He was trying to play the good guy now? "’Can’t let anything happen to me?’ What are we to each other, President Fletcher? Cecilia Caldwell grew up with you, and you couldn’t even protect her. And now you want to protect me?"
’Thanks, but no thanks.’
Julian Fletcher’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, the back of his hands turning pale as the veins popped, revealing his strained composure.
"Julian Fletcher, I’m quite curious. Back then, Cecilia Caldwell loved you so much. How could you have been so cruel to her? Even if you raise a dog, you develop feelings for it, don’t you?" I was questioning the relationship between Julian Fletcher and Cecilia Caldwell from a God-like perspective.
By now, I had slowly calmed down, truly seeing myself as just a bystander.
Julian Fletcher didn’t respond, just kept driving, following Assistant Foster.
"I..." After what felt like an eternity, Julian Fletcher spoke in a hushed voice. "I love her."
’Hm? What did he say?’
I didn’t hear him clearly.
"I love her very much." Julian Fletcher’s voice seemed to be trembling. "The person she loved... it wasn’t me at all. She only wanted to be with me out of a sense of obligation. She clearly had someone else in her heart."
I was stunned. I glared at Julian Fletcher in fury. Cecilia was dead, and he was still trying to slander me!
’Is he even human?’
"She was bound by obligation. I wanted to give her freedom, yet I also wanted to trap her by my side. I knew she would leave sooner or later..." He just never expected that Cecilia would die.
"Heh..." I found Julian Fletcher laughable, to be able to say such disingenuous things at a time like this. "Your love is so cheap. You said you liked her back then, and like a fool, she loved you for ten years..."
A complex look appeared in Julian Fletcher’s eyes as he glanced at me. "Did Cecilia tell you she loved me for ten years?"
I frowned, not wanting to deal with Julian Fletcher anymore.
Julian Fletcher looked like he wanted to say more, but held back, his gaze remaining intense.
I didn’t say anything, and he didn’t ask again. When Owen Foster parked on an old street, Julian stopped the car, led me out, and we secretly followed Owen Foster.
Owen Foster bought some food, carried it into an old residence, and knocked on the door.
Julian Fletcher and I hid in the shadows, watching to see who Owen Foster was meeting.
After a short while, the door opened a crack, and a hand reached out.
That hand... it had burn scars.
My breath caught. I stared warily at the person behind the crack in the door! It was the murderer I saw in my house before! The person who killed me!
’I just need to see if he has a red birthmark on his inner arm, and then I’ll know if he’s the one who killed me!’
But why would Owen Foster be bringing him food?
"Young Master, I’ve passed on the instructions and given him what he asked for," Owen Foster said, walking down the alley while on the phone with Asher.
Julian Fletcher and I hid behind a trash can, watching Owen Foster leave.
"After Cece died, I never stopped investigating the killer. I don’t believe this case has nothing to do with Sebastian Lancaster. He just used his mental illness to get away with it. I’ve been keeping an eye on him," Julian Fletcher said in a low voice.
My fingers were trembling slightly as I instinctively pulled out my phone to call the police.
"Silvia Lynch, divorce Sebastian Lancaster. All you want is financial support for the Lynn Family, and I told you I can help with that. Being with him is too dangerous." Julian Fletcher was insistent that I divorce Sebastian Lancaster.
I ignored him and dialed Zeke Shaw’s number.
"Hello?" On the other end of the line, Zeke Shaw’s voice was hoarse. He must have been sick from overworking recently.
"Zeke, I saw the suspect who was living at Cecilia’s place... He’s the one who knocked out Madeline Quinn..." My voice was low. The day Madeline Quinn came to my house, the surveillance camera caught someone following her, but their face wasn’t clear.
"Where?" Zeke Shaw asked.
"Westwood Road, Number 163, in the courtyard house," I whispered.
"Don’t make any rash moves. I’m on my way," Zeke Shaw said before hanging up in a hurry.
I knew he would come.
’As long as Zeke Shaw is willing to investigate, he’ll definitely find something.’
’This time, even if it means tipping them off, I have to confirm if this is the person who killed me.’
"Silvia Lynch, Sebastian Lancaster is really not as simple as he looks. If the person hiding here is one of the murderers, then he’s definitely an accomplice." Julian Fletcher was persistent in his attempt to make me leave Sebastian Lancaster. "He’s mentally ill. Did you know he killed someone in a mental hospital?"
I glanced back at Julian Fletcher. "Do you do all your thinking with your toes, President Fletcher? Before the truth is clear, tell me, who should I believe? You, an untrustworthy accomplice who caused Cecilia’s death, or my husband?"
I clutched my phone tighter. Between Julian Fletcher and Asher, I would rather believe Asher.
’What if there’s really a hidden story...’
"Silvia Lynch, you’re a lot like Cecilia. You’re both so stubborn, sticking to your own beliefs and never listening to advice." Julian Fletcher frowned and spoke again. "Sebastian Lancaster is an extremely dangerous person. He has aggressive mental illness. The fact that he killed someone in a fit of madness is something many people at the mental hospital knew at the time! Besides, isn’t the case clear enough already?"
Seeing that I was unmoved, he continued. "Erin Whittaker said that Asher is the only one so far with a motive to kill! That orphanage fire was a prank by the others at the orphanage. They locked Asher and Charlie in a room and set it on fire. He was trapped inside and almost burned to death, while his best friend, Charlie, died in there. He hates those people!"
My body went stiff. I turned back to look at Julian Fletcher. "That fire... the people at the orphanage deliberately locked them inside?"
I was starting to lose control. "Julian Fletcher, have you ever been to the scene of the fire! They deserved to die..."
’How could they do that to Asher?’
The fire, the screams, the pleas for help, the struggle.
Every night in my nightmares, I remember the Lethe handprints and scratch marks inside the burned room at the orphanage.
That was Asher and Charlie, desperately crying, begging for help, trying to save themselves...
’They were all evil.’
"That’s not a reason for him to kill people! What about Cecilia!" Julian Fletcher lost control, grabbing my chin with bloodshot eyes. "She was pregnant with my child!"
