Adventures of the last Wild Dragon
Chapter 359: The Limits of Limit Break
Wild power surged through Violet’s body, purple edged lightning crackled along her scales whilst her domain of Ephemeral Void blossomed.
The world around Violet lost all colour, lost all sound, lost everything but the ceaseless nothingness of the void.
It expanded out from her body, covering more and more space as reality was swapped out for the void.
Yet the tiger would not allow her domain free reign.
His own domain of shadows expanded, where the two domains met a strange phenomenon occoured.
Usually when two domains met they could directly clash, this would cause both domains to halt their expansion and limit their growth. Yet this was not the case for Violet’s domain.
Her was the void, it welcomed all to enter it, surviving within its depths however, that was another matter entirely.
So the twisting shadows spread into the nothingness, form was given to the absence in the form of monochrome shadows that refracted with purple illumination.
Whilst the shadows tried to expand and claim all, the void simply eroded the very fabric of what created the shadows, in this case the will of the sovereign that ruled them.
Yet the void alone could not deny the will of a being in the fifth tier, no only the opposing will of someone in equal or greater advancement could manage such a task. In this case that opposing will was none other than Violet.
She had never truly experienced a true clash of wills like this before. Sure she had some experience when she battled against Karla, yet that woman held a unique domain almost entirely focused on herself.
As such her domain lacked the external factor to allow for easy contests of will. That left her with the times she had tried to resist a Sovereign whilst as a Lord.
With that in mind the initial moments of the contest of wills took Violet by surprise.
She was not ready for how intimate the clash felt. It was no simple clash of power, this was a exchange, she felt the overlaying intent of the shadow domain that ventured into her own.
It was a twisting thing, constantly shifting and obscuring all that hid within its depths. It sought to slip between the cracks, going unnoticed by its prey until the last moment, then it desired to surge forwards with overwhelming force to snuff out all that sought to illuminate its dark depths.
That ideology allowed the shadows to slip deep into her domain, but Violet was nothing if not adaptable. So she instantly went in the counter, her void ate away at the shadows, allowing them no succor within her domain.
The nature of her domain may allow entry however, that entry came at a cost, a cost that Violet was going to extract from her foe.
The shadows began to erode, the tendrils of will dictating ther animation simply ceasing to be as the endless void consumed it in order to return the domain into nothingness.
A sharp hiss of reflected pain came from the tiger in response to her retaliation causing a small smile to bloom of Violet’s lips.
However, the classing of domains was only a single aspect of this fight, one that granted Violet was currently winning. Still the more pressing aspect of the fight was that of the physical side.
Violet still had to battle against, and win against the tiger before her. That was where her limit break came into effect.
The tiger rushed forwards with terrifying speed, its claws encased in roiling shadows that sought to rend her scales apart and sunder the flesh beneath them.
Where previously the tiger had moved almost too fast for Violet to properly react, now thanks to the boost of limit break, Violet was able to follow the incredibly fast for before her.
She raised her own claw in challenge, each claw coated with the radiant nothingness of the void that now crackled with etherial lightning.
When the two claws collided a shockwave of force rippled out, the ground below them cracked, the very air shattered from the force of the collision, any plant life nearby was flattened.
Yet instead of being pushed back from the strike the tiger simply attacked again, its other claw now raised to attack.
Violet met it with her own once again.
The second shockwave was no less intense, yet one single skill could only do so much. Violet felt herself be pushed back slightly from the force of that second collision, her rear legs digging furrows in the ground.
It somewhat annoyed Violet, that even with the significant boost in stats from her limit break, she was still being pushed back in a physical confrontation. Still, Violet knew that it could be considered impressive that she could even somewhat match a clearly physical focused combatant.
After all, Violet was primarily a mage, her her physical capabilities to hold up against such a foe was nothing but impressive.
But that was not what Violet needed to do if she wanted to win this fight before her limit break failed and she was assaulted by weakness. So Violet began to cast.
Runes began to etch themselves into a familiar magical circle, yet as they were being formed within her domain they formed much faster than any previous time, even when bolstered by overcharge the speed that her void cannon formed was something she truly appreciated.
That was not the only rune she began work on. Dozens of runes began to form, all the while she exchanged physical blows to keep the tigers attention focused entirely on herself.
The furious attacks caused Violet to be consistently pushed back, wounds rapidly accumulated on her body as she weathered the onslaught of shadow claws.
Her domain was slowly winning out against the insidious shadows, yet it was a gradual process that, if nothing changed would not win out until Violet herself fell at the claws of her foe.
So she relied on her magics to secure her win.
As the void cannon neared its completion Violet held nothing back. Her defensive strikes turned vicious, uncaring of the collateral damage she may suffer Violet plunder into the fray with reckless abandon.
A powerful swipe from the tiger tore a jagged wound down her side, yet in response Violet slammmed her jaw down on the offending limb and clamped down with all her might, refusing to allow escape from her grasp.
At the same time the multitude of runes all around her flashed with purple power.
Her domain suddenly surged forth with the power of the array she cast, the eroding ambivilance of the void swept forward, consuming all shadows that blocked its path.
The shadows that wreathed the tiger were momentarily cast away, leaving just the fur of the beast protecting it from the devistation of Violet’s incoming attack.
As if sensing the impending damage the tiger faced as its eyes glanced at the pulsing runic circle, it desperately tried to escape, yet Violet’s jaw held tight onto its leg, refusing to allow the beast to escape her clutches.
More hidden runes flashed as chains of purest nothing latched onto the remaining limbs of the tiger, binding it up in the cold embrace of the void.
Whilst the tiger could undoubtedly escape given time, Violet would not allow it that opportunity.
The magic circle flashed one final time, its complexity having only increased as Violet’s understanding of runes grew.
Then the world outside of Violet’s domain was painted a vivid purple, all other light being banished by the majesty of the void.
A beam of void well over 2 meters wide errupted forth from the circle, it crossed the distance between Violet and the tiger in but an instant.
Uliias’s eyes grew wide with sudden fright as he tried to gather the shadows around him to flee, the chains cracked, her jaw was wrenched to the side painfully, yet the chains held long enough and Violet refused to let go.
Then the blast of concentrated void impacted with the great tiger sovereign, and cut right through his sturdy body with almost no resistance.
The beam entered into the neck of the beast, passing through his body until it exited around his hind legs. His body stiffened as the destructive fury of the void coursed through his body.
Then he went still and collapsed to the ground as the life left his eyes.
Violet slowly released her death grip on his leg, the body falling the floor with a muted thud.
She stood there, blood pouring from her numerous wounds as she basked in the glory of her victory against a powerful foe.
Finally allowing herself to relax somewhat after the intense clash she had just endured.
Then she felt limit break shut down and a surge of weakness wracked her body.
Violet collapsed to the ground as a groan of agony and exhaustion escaped her weary mouth. She lost all strength in her body, her head falling to the floor to rest atop the broken and bloody ground.
Still that faint smile never left Violet even as she lay there.
