Chapter 1157: Trials.
Shi Lang had been commanded by the Vermillion Phoenix and the plan had been streamlined. He had no other option and so, he put on the headgear that he made, and Feng Yun said, “Despite looking a bit funny, you have managed to do a good job.”
Shi Lang rolled his eyes and then came over to Amelia, kissed her and then said, “Tell Tao that it was because of this little bird that I have to go out alone.”
Feng Yun stuck out her tongue and said, “Brat, you just wait.”
In front of Shi Lang, she was never the Holy Dao Beast, she was just a normal creature whom Shi Lang treated with kindness and affection befitting a normal. Feng Yun never felt vexed about this treatment because she was tired of being treated all high and mighty all the time. However, Nishan and Amare were shocked as they watched the scene unfold from the other side. They shivered when they saw this scene, and then Shi Lang said, “Brother Nishan, let’s go.”
The latter nodded and the trio departed towards the Dao Plain, then they crossed the place with ease. Even Nishan was wearing a headband along with his sister. Amare asked as they moved, “Senior, why did you say that the world consciousness might try to take control of me? I didn’t sense any such intent from it.”
Shi Lang nodded and said, “Your assumption is correct, but do you think we are strong enough to sense the true intent of the consciousness that governs the world? Let me ask you, what do you feel when you look at the flowers that bloom? Do you sense a burst of vitality?”
Amare nodded and Shi Lang continued, “Now, if this burst of vitality is not controlled with the changing weather, or the grazing wild beasts, what would happen?”
The princess was surprised and then she replied, “These flowers will cover the world.”
Shi Lang nodded as he said, “Yes, so while we call the changing weather an act of regulating life, it is just a nice way of putting out the fact that this world is being controlled by the world consciousness and we don’t even realize that. The consciousness is so strong that it can change some rules to sustain itself longer. The only thing that it cannot meddle too much with is the flow of spiritual energy and the will of Great Dao. Does that make any sense to you?”
Amare nodded and replied, “Yes, it does. Thank you for guiding me.”
Shi Lang shook his head and smiled, he wondered when would his younger sister manage to ascend the immortal world. Well, now was not the time for these thoughts. Shaking it all off, Shi Lang followed the two of them to the center of the Archer Plain. Yes, they didn’t waste any time going to the clans and meeting the elders. They have all already positioned themselves around the Temple of the Five Elements.
After two days, they reached the place and Shi Lang found that many of the Elder Saints have come out of the seclusion to guard the place. They were radiating such a strong aura that it caused the void to bend around them slightly. They were all at the higher realm that Shi Lang himself. Nishan landed on the ground and took the lead to bow and greet this dozen of old warriors.
The people nodded to Nishan and then Shi Lang stepped up before he greeted the elders with a cupped fist. The old man in the lead asked, “Young man, what makes you think that you can cross this barrier? Just a few days ago, one of us tried to take a step forward but despite the realm of cultivation being at the so-called peak, We sensed an inevitable death. How are you any different?”
Shi Lang smiled and said, “I have been blessed by the Dao Beast, her Holiness the vermillion phoenix. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Nishan.”
Nishan nodded and said, “It is true, Her Holiness said that if anyone besides the chosen champion tries to step near the Temple, they would die.”
The old man was surprised but he didn’t show it on his face. Shi Lang asked, “Elder, may I proceed?”
The people fell silent for a bit before the person at the lead, moved aside. Shi Lang thanked them and then he picked up his feet to walk ahead. They saw him pass the boundary with a normal expression as if he was back in his garden. Shi Lang put his hands behind his back as he walked ahead. He was thinking about what might happen now, and he had just taken a dozen of steps when the clouds gathered above in the sky, and they thundered loudly causing the ground to tremble. Shi Lang raised his head to look at the sky and yelled, “What! Shut the fuck up! I have not even walked to the core area! Do you have to dramatize every little thing, you useless cunt!”
His voice echoed in the surroundings, and caused the elders to shiver, they could not believe how this young man dared to scold the storm clouds. After a few moments they realized that it was indeed true, the thunderstorm calmed down after Shi Lang cursed back at it. Then the Terran just vanished in the distance leaving behind a bunch of stunned Sun Archers.
…
Amelia was sitting in the pavilion with Feng Yun and she asked, “Why did you send Lang alone?”
Feng Yun sighed and replied, “He is the only one that Kal-e cannot attack unless the war begins.”
Amelia was shocked and asked, “Why so?”
Feng Yun replied, “Lang has defeated the three holy dao beasts when he entered the temple the last time. He also completed my challenge, and while Kal-e has the power to destroy the worlds, he cannot do that without paying the price, and as strong as he is, the man is a coward who cannot bear to suffer even the slightest of a lose let alone being stripped off his power and life completely.”
Amelia understood this and asked, “Another reason you kept us all here is so that you could deter Kal-e from making any moves against us and make sure that Shi Lang stays in the correct state of mind.”
Feng Yun nodded, she didn’t feel like it was right for her to hide these things. Amelia sighed and Feng Yun said, “Don’t think that Shi Lang would have to carry all the burden alone, however, to fight off this oddity, he needs to get stronger and despite being a sharp tongued brat that he is, he loves fighting. He grows stronger when it fights and to face someone as strong as the Kal-e he would need the training under the hands of the four Guardians of the various realms. This is why I sent him alone.”
Amelia nodded and then she sipped on the tea in her hand before she asked, “Can you tell me how do I increase my cultivation realm? Although I do have a sense that is guiding me ahead but with the world consciousness trying to gain leverage, I am not feeling very confident in following this vibe that is originating from the core.”
Feng Yun nodded and replied, “Yes, that is the correct way, because the path will lead towards unity with the World Consciousness, we need to avoid that. Let me tell you….”
Then Feng Yun took on the role of a teacher and guided Amelia patiently.
…
Shi Lang came to a stop when he sensed the atmosphere around him fall stagnant. He had been walking for several hours, but even with his mastery of the techniques like squeezing the ground into inches, he could not cross the tiny crack on the ground. He raised his head to look around before he said, “What an intricate illusion. It seems that you have already arrive to test my resolve, have you not, Lord Black Turtle?”
From the void ahead of Shi Lang, a middle-aged man with a hunched back appeared with a smile and said, “I didn’t expect you to be so smart.”
Shi Lang cupped his fist and greeted the person before he replied, “Is it not because I have read about you and the tactics that you have devised? Thank you for the guidance, shall we begin?”
The man nodded, and walked over to stand five meters away from the Terran before he took out a chess board and two bowls of black and white Jade pieces appeared before them. The black turtle said, “After you.”
Shi Lang obliged and picked up the white piece between his fingers and without hesitation placed on the board. The black turtle followed and quickly replied and Shi Lang did the same. He didn’t show any hesitation and after ten moves the middle-aged man asked, “Why are you reacting so quickly? Don’t you think if you lost, you would die?”
Shi Lang shook his head as he placed another piece on the table and said, “No, because I am not afraid of death, on the contrary, you should be wary if I were to die, shouldn’t you, World Consciousness?”
The middle-aged man raised his gaze to look at Shi Lang and asked, “How did you know?”
