Abyssal Awakening
Chapter 1139: Oth’Zeruun The False Ancestor
Major Idol.
Two words that caused Alice’s face to twist with a deep frown.
A category above Minor Idols like Zal-Ka’Rith and those who appeared in the east. Yet just Minor Idols had caused untold amounts of damage to their world already.
So what kind of danger does a Major Idol possess?
They were also one category below Great Ones.
But with no reference in mind, it’s hard for Alice to tell the exact level of danger.
And it wasn’t as though Zal-Ka’Rith could help her since this space had been sealed off for the time being.
However, even without him being here, her instincts told her that this wasn’t a battle she could take lightly.
Forcing herself to relax to the best of her abilities, Alice exhaled softly.
She needed to keep herself relaxed or else she won’t be able to fight properly.
"Karya, are you able to keep Allura safe?" Alice asked as she tossed an empty vial of glass towards Karya.
Familiar with Alice’s abilities, Karya understood what needs to be done.
Even taking into account of her own authority and abilities, Alice was still the one with the highest combat potential between them.
For herself, it was better to remain as a support.
Making a slight cut, she drained some blood into the vial.
"Can you handle it?" She asked, hoping to see a light of confidence in Alice’s expression.
But after seeing her face, Karya got the answer to her question.
"The goal is not to kill them. The goal is to interrupt the process so that he can’t fully materialise in this world. If our world accepts him, it validates everything that Nyer is looking for. And..." Alice pursed her lips.
"Who knows what kind of authority he can exert if he fully manifests. Oth’Zeruun is not one to be trifled with, especially when his nature is The False Ancestor...?" She froze.
A chill spread across the group.
Not from the cold but from the sense of dread that filled their hearts.
Of the information that had been injected into their mind without knowing.
Perhaps it was due to the partial manifestation but they still noticed the discrepancy.
Why does she know his name? Why does she know his nature?
For her who had only just seen this Major Idol today, all of this should be unknown information.
Should be.
But that was not the case.
Facing this figure, Alice felt as though she’s gathered information about them during her journey. Someone that had been looming in the background this entire time, someone who she has actively researched against-
*SLAP!!!
Alice quickly slapped herself in the face to distract herself from the string of thoughts.
The more she tried to make sense of its existence, the faster the progression would become.
Noticing Alice’s actions, Karya and Allura did the same as cut off the train of thought.
"Alice-"
"The more people are involved, the worse it’ll get. I already have two people in my head, having two more would only speed up the process." Alice interrupted Allura.
She didn’t want to be rude to her mum but this was not the time to beat around the bush.
Tilting her head back, Alice swallowed the blood as the vessel for power shifted inside her body.
Nine slots were now open to her.
Yet before she could move, her body froze.
Vision failed to capture the moment that thing appeared behind her.
Was it a moment of distraction? Or was it history being inserted into her mind.
That he was always behind her.
That he hadn’t moved.
Conflicting knowledge collided in Alice’s mind as she clutched her head in pain.
Behind her stood the Outer God.
He was humanoid. At least as close to one as whatever malformed disguise he had draped over himself.
An unnaturally tall slender figure stood upon the snow covered ground with its needle like legs. A figure taller than even Allura.
Its body was wrapped in a dark skin tight garment that was less like clothing and more like a second layer of skin. Straps and buckles crossed its waist and thighs, a remnant of the unnamed Outer God.
Strips of black material trailed behind him like a loose veil.
Lifting his hand, it brought it towards his face as though to observe what his new vessel had become.
Long skeletal claws that seemed more like bone rather than flesh. He clenched and unclenched a few times, getting a feel for the vessel.
From his head, long white hair drifted towards, lifting lightly around the edges as though to defy gravity. With the flicker of light, each strand would reflect like a mirror.
Rather than hair, it was better to call it miniscule cables that mimicked the look of hair.
And from the hair, one would expect to see his face. Yet that was not the case. The upper half was covered in something that looked eerily like melted black wax with a slight shimmer of red. It had been poured over his scalp and allowed to harden in a paradoxical state where it looked as though it was still in the process of melting and moving despite having hardened and cooled down.
Through the gaps of this wax, a single right eye could be seen shimmering with a crimson light.
Having observed his own hand, he turned his gaze to his body.
His torso was a grotesque amalgamation of bone like material that erupted outward from his chest, as though a bomb had been placed between the lungs and allowed to detonate before being frozen in time.
Curved spikes extended from where his ribs would be while a single pulsing red orb shimmered in the cavity.
Across his body, more of the strange black wax could be seen in patches, seemingly obscuring and preventing his full form from being realised.
An incomplete summoning that was still progressing with each passing moment.
The collision of the Unnamed Outer and Oth’Zeruun The False Ancestor happening simultaneously with the battle favouring Oth’Zeruun.
"In that darkness there was... a light. How curious. To reach for that light only to find myself in such a vessel. Was this radiant blue star not out of our reach? Was this planet not defended by that meddlesome barrier?" Oth’Zeruun mumbled, his voice sounding unnatural as each syllable he spoke seemed to be in reverse only for the meaning to enter their mind all the same.
As though he breathed in each word rather than exhaling while speaking.
Alice swallowed nervously, not wanting to make any sudden moves that could put Allura in danger in this moment.
She tried to stop herself from questioning his existence further. To simply designate him as an enemy that needed to be expelled as each thought could become the foundation to verify his hold over the Unnamed.
However, if there was a silver lining, it would be the fact that the Unnamed Outer hadn’t lost yet.
He was still holding on with everything he’s got.
His defiance bought them precious time that she couldn’t afford to waste and thus her mind turned.
How should she cancel this experiment? How to deny the descent? What process did Nyer force the Unnamed to undergo for this change to happen?
She had to reverse engineer the experiment in order to cancel it out.
Unfortunately, simply using Revenant Recollection was not an option since history was still in the process of being ’created’.
It exists yet it has no Origin.
It stands here yet it does not.
However, something must be done!
Slamming her palms down, Alice enveloped the entire space with blood and shifted them to the opposite side of the arena!
Karya and Allura had to be kept away!
Once they teleported away, Alice snapped her finger.
A field of spider lilies blossomed before simultaneously igniting into an array of violet flames.
*Bzt!!!
A buzzing sound echoed out momentarily.
Enough to distract Alice despite having Vision activated.
The lilies disappeared, there was no fire.
Oth’Zeruun simply stood opposite Alice with a calm expression.
"!!!"
[It’s similar to Selen’s power! He’s targeting perception!] Cayla quickly shouted out as Golden chains coiled around Alice’s wrist.
It wasn’t a case of Alyss taking over but simply stirring Velouria’s blessing so that they could avoid the mental corruption of the Outer God.
Upon seeing the chains, Oth’Zeruun paused in mild interest.
Panting heavily, Alice quickly created some distance between them as her frown deepened.
A Major Idol was more dangerous than she had initially expected! Even just trying to fight back felt futile as he distorted reality and perception.
Had it wanted to land an attack against her, she would’ve been stabbed without even knowing what happened!
Her usual detection methods didn’t work either. He had practically assimilated with his surroundings. Not only that, but by deceiving her perception, she couldn’t even react on instinct.
Cold sweat dripped down her back.
"Child, young one. Explain why your chains hold the same essence as the barrier that prevents our grasp of this blue star." Oth’Zeruun asked, appearing next to Alice as he placed his hand on her shoulder.
"!!!"
*BANG!!!
Instinctively, Alice transformed one of her weapons into blade and struck out with all her strength.
Her triggered casts overlapped in an instant, placing a huge deal of stress on her body in order to unleash a Void Axis with minimal preparation.
A zero windup attack at maximum output!
Yet as her blade was about to collide with the Outer, he disappeared.
Rather, he was never there.
"What fascinating reaction. I do wonder who has wounded such a dear one such as yourself." Oth’Zeruun commented from behind Alice.
He had leaned down, allowing his head to hover next to Alice’s in close proximity.
Alice’s grip on her blade trembled.
This was a Major Idol. An Outer God that surpassed Zal-Ka’Rith.
