Abyssal Awakening
Chapter 1138: Outer God’s Descent
Alice exhaled softly.
Seeing the barrier of mist around this area, it’s clear that Nyer didn’t intend for them to leave until this Outer God was dealt with.
Either that, or he achieves the outcome he desired. And based on what she just saw, he most likely wanted them to help with the Outer’s ’maturity’.
Allura and Karya landed near Alice as all three had deep frowns on their face.
"You mentioned it’s a trap?" Allura was the first to speak as Alice nodded her head with a grim expression.
"Yeah. I found out why his energy is weird and why nothing seems to work on him." Alice nodded as they watched the energy envelop the Outer in a strange cocoon of sorts.
Without them having a method to pierce this energy properly, attacking now would just be wasting energy.
Instead, she wanted to catch Allura and Karya up to date on what she just found out.
"When I use my ability, I can look into the history of things. Trace their past and find information I want. Sometimes, I can overlay that past in myself to copy them." Alice glanced at Allura and soon, their mannerisms start to synch up.
"I used this to trace back Feris’s past and even the past of the land. But when I tried to trace back the strange energy to a source..." At this point, Alice pursed her lips.
"Its origin is still in the process of being made."
Allura tilted her head.
If it was Kaden here, he might have a better idea about what Alice just mentioned. But he wasn’t and she’s not an expert on these matters.
Seeing the confusion, Alice reorganised her thoughts.
"Everything has an origin in this world. A source that you can trace everything back to. People, abilities, buildings. There’s a starting point where it is then observed and recorded. This is history.
"Take my knowledge of casting. If I trace back its history, it’ll eventually reach Kaden, then it’ll reach whoever taught him or the inspirations that he drew from. From that, I can see the history of that inspiration all the way until I find the single starting point that expanded into this giant net of coincidences and associations." Alice created a diagram using blood.
Each node represented a person, an inspiration or anything else that could’ve been linked to the events.
As connections formed between the notes, more and more branches converged until it reached a singular point at the beginning of everything.
"This is the starting point."
The moment she said this, Allura understood and her eyes shot back to the cocoon.
If the Outer’s origin was still in the process of being made...
How was that possible? That thing had a history. They’re sure of it. It has abilities with a source, they even had previous encounters with it.
So how was its Origin still unknown? How is it still in the process of being made?
A frown appeared on her face.
"Tch, Nyer is using us as nanny’s." She came to such a conclusion.
Alice nodded her head in agreement.
When they mentioned that this Outer was in the process of maturing, it was correct in the most literal sense.
Every interaction, every thought, every collision, the three of them were essentially being used to verify the Outer’s existence.
To become foundations of its Origin and help it establish a history in this world.
Whatever was trying to use its body to descend was something that couldn’t even let a slither of themselves manifest.
And in such case, there were only two candidates that Alice could think of.
Two categories of Outer Gods that would require such a round about method of manifestation while Velouria’s barrier was still around this world.
The Major Idols and the Great ones of the Outer Gods.
Categories that stand above the Writhing Script.
Now that Alice had arrived before this truth, she understood what Nyer was trying to achieve.
In essence, this was another experiment.
One to see whether or not this world could accept Velouria even after trying its best to reject her existence.
He was trying to force a loophole by deceiving the world!
"Anything we can do to deny this?" Karya asked as a storm of energy started to pick up around the cocoon.
While it’s not a full descent, progress was speeding up.
There’s no doubt that the Outer is about to break out of its shell, merging partially with whatever was trying to come forth.
"Not that I can think of right now. If I was at my peak, I would suggest severance and Oblivion to destroy its tethers and connections but..." Allura exhaled.
"Not even I can dig out its full history so the rest will be up to Alice."
Allura wasn’t one to shy away from her short comings.
While she could block certain conceptual achievements such as Tiamat’s casting, erasing History was something that not even she could do completely.
This wasn’t just history of one aspect of the individual. This was potentially a full erasure of every single connection while ensuring that there are no methods in reestablishing that connection.
Only Alice with her Sigils could fully pick out everything they need to destroy.
Thus, the job falls to her.
Alice summoned the weapons to her side.
"I’ll try. Alternatively, I’ll see if there’s a way out of this mist. As long as we can escape, we might be able to work with Zal-Ka’Rith to figure out a method to banish or kill whatever is trying to descent."
Alice didn’t want to give any guarantees. Not in this moment, not when so many things are still uncertain.
Nodding her head, Allura turned her gaze back at the cocoon.
She measured how much energy she still had left inside her body, how much Nightmare energy she could afford before being forced to tap into her own life force.
"Tap into your life force and I’ll break your spine. Don’t make me do that Lua." Karya shot Allura a warning glare, causing the tall woman to shiver momentarily.
Coughing awkwardly, she had to ignore the burning gaze of Alice next to her.
"Alright alright, I’ll keep things moderate. With the energy in my body, I should be able to pull off one attack with Severance to clear a path. After that, I’m completely out of the battle." Allura smiled helplessly.
With Alice staring at her so hard, she had to hold herself back!
She was the one who lectured Alice about looking after herself so she had to take her own advice!
With the plans now set, Allura took a step forward.
Her eyes focused, her smile faded.
She hopped on the spot lightly as her heart slammed against her chest.
Blood rushed through her veins, flames flicked across her skin.
Silver light tried to coalesce into a set of armour but fell short. Any further and the energy required would no doubt tap into her lifeforce.
Therefore, she must condense only what she needed.
Little by little, the silver light gathered around her fists. A gauntlet half formed.
The crackle of air echoed out as flames hissed. A radiant white flame appeared by her elbows as her hair slowly shifted to a silver.
Target was locked on. Authority was activated. Nightmare energy was burning at an abnormal pace but all requirements have now been met.
A single strike to break through the barrier.
*BANG!!!
Lunging forward, the ground beneath her shattered to pieces as Allura gritted her teeth until blood seeped from her gums.
Veins bulged on her neck and arms as she pulled back her fist.
*RUMBLE!!!
A heavy first step that causes the world to tremble like an earthquake.
The rushing of gale as she twisted her hips to follow through with the heaviest punch she could muster in this moment.
The explosion of energy to propel her fist forward while her authority converged into a single blade like strike to pierce the veil.
"BREAK!!!" Allura roared, her fist rushing forward.
*KRK!!!
A streak of silver energy rushed forward, parting the strange energy wrapping around the outer God.
A blade of severance that pushed forth without care.
Right as this energy rushed out, Allura collapsed on one knee.
Her face was pale like Snow as her body was completely empty of Nightmare energy.
She had calculated the attack down to the limit. And now, the path was opened for the others.
Karya moved first, she had to excavate Allura from the vicinity in case the enemy tried to attack her.
Alice’s focus was on properly dispelling the wall of energy.
With Allura forcing a path forward, she could now fully break the barrier apart!
Her eyes shifted, she leaned forward as Ruby funnelled all of her energy into the engine, pushing forward with as much speed as possible.
Right as she was about to leave an attack to shatter the barrier, a chill ran down her spine.
An instinct to turn back no matter what!
Alice spun around.
Resonance!
Spider lilies appeared in the sky.
Violet flames burst around Karya and Allura in an attempt to shield them from whatever was inside the cocoon but it was too late.
In a split instant, it was as though a hand passed through the Void.
The world around them shifted as Nightmare energy disappeared.
A field of snow... ruined buildings.
Ash falling from the sky and bloodied crucifixes the size of buildings anchored to the ground.
Nailed to each one was a creature, humanoid in appearance yet different all the same.
Creatures who have their organs harvested and strung around the cross. Their faces twisted, warped yet blurred from her perception.
And as she turned her eyes towards the source of this change, she noticed corrupted words slowly solidifying above the creature. While the name was still taking form, just its classification was enough to send shivers down Alice’s spine.
