Above the Mage!
Chapter 112 - 111: Entrance Mission
Chapter 112: Chapter 111: Entrance Mission
"Jelica will be assigned to Mage Tangde. As for that wild mage, Commissioner Quik, just arrange it as you see fit." Shire Ian’s gaze fell upon an old man sitting two seats away from him.
"Understood," Commissioner Quik nodded.
"There is only one month left until admission day. The committee must coordinate and prepare thoroughly to ensure everything goes off without a hitch. We cannot afford another blunder like the one the year before last," Shire Ian continued, his tone turning serious.
More than half the people present sat up straight upon hearing this. It was clear that this matter was closely tied to them.
"Also, the academy’s funding this year will be leaned more heavily toward the Magic Potion Department... Mmm, the extra allocation will be deducted from the Rune Department."
"Dean, the Rune Department’s funding has already been cut four times. It’s at rock bottom now..." a senior executive in charge of the academy’s financial allocations cautiously reminded him.
But Shire Ian remained unmoved. "The academy’s funds are limited. The capable receive more. It’s impossible to implement an equal distribution.
"The Rune Department hasn’t made any contributions or produced any results over the years. It is only natural to reduce their funding."
"I understand..." Shire Ian’s prestige was evidently very high, and the executive immediately submitted.
Inside a room in the Guest Reception Building of the Cyrus Magic Academy, Gaode was restless. He occasionally stood up from his chair and paced back and forth across the room.
After enduring untold hardships, he had finally arrived in Saint Sean City.
Even though he still felt uncertain, he had to take the risk.
Therefore, after resting for a night at the Haines Inn, Gaode rented a carriage the very next day and headed out of the city, arriving at the Cyrus Magic Academy situated on the Cyrus mountain peaks.
When Gaode presented the "recommendation letter" to the staff of the Cyrus Magic Academy, they were visibly shocked.
Soon, they arranged a room for Gaode to rest in temporarily. The staff member stated that he would hand the "recommendation letter" over to the dean, who would make the final decision on how to arrange things.
Thus, Gaode stayed in the Cyrus Magic Academy’s Guest Reception Building, quietly waiting for the academy’s final decision.
He had been waiting there for a whole day.
During that time, academy personnel had come by once to take him for a test to verify his age and mage level.
After that, not a single person had come to see him or check on his situation. Furthermore, no one restricted his movements.
However, aside from going downstairs to eat a meal in between, Gaode honestly spent most of his time staying in his room, going nowhere else. Having just arrived in an unfamiliar place and not knowing the rules and regulations, it was better to be cautious.
Just as Gaode was still feeling apprehensive, footsteps rang out outside his door once again after a long silence. It was clearly not just one person; the footsteps were somewhat clustered and noisy. Gaode’s spirit perked up, knowing the result was finally here.
A knock came at the door, and Gaode, who was fully prepared, opened it immediately.
Three people stood in the doorway, one behind the other. All of them wore the impeccably tailored uniforms of the academy’s staff, with badges representing the academy’s honor embroidered on their chests.
The leader was a stern-faced middle-aged woman, her brow radiating unquestionable authority. The man standing beside her was much older and didn’t possess as heavy a sense of majesty. The man following behind looked younger and highly capable, at first glance a typical "grunt."
"Gaode?" the woman spoke first, her voice gentle yet clear.
At the Cyrus Magic Academy, Gaode did not continue using his alias, "Google Ditu," opting instead to use his real name.
Gaode stepped aside to clear the way, gesturing for the three to enter the room as he nodded. "I am."
"No need. I’ll leave once I’m done explaining," the woman waved her hand, indicating that speaking at the door was fine. "I am Commissioner Rachel of the academy committee. We have already inspected and verified your recommendation letter; there are no issues.
"Gaode, age thirteen, second-class mage apprentice, admitted with a recommendation letter from the academy’s tenth dean, Gavin Hogg. According to the rules, this academy will recruit you with the highest level of treatment."
Even though Gaode’s mindset was fairly calm, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief upon suddenly hearing this news.
It was finally settled... his arduous journey to Saint Sean City had not been in vain.
Gaode felt somewhat emotional, recalling that he never had to worry about such things in his past life. After taking an exam, the admission notice would naturally arrive. Sometimes, school staff would even deliver the admission notice directly to his door.
"This is the map of the Cyrus Magic Academy." The woman raised her hand, and the "grunt" behind her hurriedly passed forward a series of items. The middle-aged woman took them and handed them to Gaode.
The first was a fine parchment map, detailing every corner and location of the academy.
"This is the academy’s rulebook. There are many important notes inside. Remember to flip through it often and do not violate the academy’s rules. This is also about taking responsibility for yourself." Commissioner Rachel handed over a small booklet.
Next was a key.
"This is the key to your room, Number Thirty in District One. It’s a beautiful place; I believe you will like it.
"This is your identity plaque. It serves as every student’s proof of identity within the academy. Do not lose it. A replacement costs one gold coin. ⅇ𝒃𝚗ℴ
"At the same time, lending it out is not allowed. The identity plaque records your credits and academic progress, and it also acts as your proof of clearance. Every student has different levels of clearance within the academy.
"You have the highest clearance. You can use many facilities that are locked to other lower-clearance students, and you can access knowledge for free that many other students must pay for... There are many privileges. I hope you prove yourself worthy of them.
"Lastly, report to Kuli Cliff before eight o’clock tomorrow to accept your admission mission.
"At the Cyrus Magic Academy, a new student is only truly considered a member of this academy after completing the admission mission. Only then can you officially begin the academy’s courses, and only then will the academy officially assign you a mentor.
"I will remind you of one thing: if you cannot complete the admission mission, you cannot officially enroll, even if you hold Dean Gavin’s ’recommendation letter’."
"I will definitely keep that in mind," Gaode replied respectfully, even though he was still a bit confused and unclear about what this so-called admission mission entailed.
In a place where everyone was an unknown number of times stronger than him, maintaining a proper attitude certainly couldn’t hurt.
Hearing this, Master Rachel nodded in satisfaction. She stepped aside, revealing the old man who had been standing next to her, silently observing Gaode the entire time.
"Master Lael still has a matter to discuss with you. You two can sort out the details. I will be taking my leave."
Having said that, Master Rachel gave the old man one extra warning. "Remember what the dean instructed."
Master Lael gave a slight nod, expressing his gratitude to Master Rachel, while also assuring her, "Don’t worry, I absolutely will not violate the academy’s rules and disciplines."
Gaode watched this scene in silence, some doubts and a sense of foreboding blooming in his heart.
He muttered in his heart, "I am a newcomer. What could a higher-up of the academy possibly need to discuss with me? It’s obvious he doesn’t come with good intentions..."
But fortunately, the overall atmosphere was still fairly amicable, so he managed to keep his mindset steady. On the surface, he didn’t reveal the slightest irregularity.
"Then, I’ll leave you two to talk."
Master Rachel glanced at Gaode, whose face still looked incredibly youthful, and sighed softly in her heart. She then departed with the "grunt" trailing behind her.
