Chapter 2953: Chapter 2954: Please Come Home

The merchant who was beaten looked somewhat defiant, but after receiving a glare from Gao Deng, he obediently returned to the ship cabin.

He had just been slapped hard by Chushuang, seeing stars, but most importantly, he saw a white dragon roaring in her eyes, frightening him to death.

Finally, nobody was causing trouble anymore, and Bai Ruozhu ordered the helmsman to turn the ship eastward.

The speed of the official ship was much faster than their rowboat; otherwise, they would have been unable to catch up with the opposition.

With the official ship moving for two hours, daylight began to break, indicating they had been struggling through the night.

Bai Ruozhu and her party still hadn’t caught up with Jiang Yichun. Since he had fallen into the water, the signal flare clearly couldn’t be used, and she didn’t know how to contact him.

As she was worrying, she suddenly saw fragments of cloth floating on the river in the distance—material she recognized as Jiang Yichun’s clothing, fabric she had personally selected.

"This is Achun’s signal; continue east," she thought to herself, feeling reassured that Jiang Yichun wouldn’t leave signals unless he was okay.

The ship continued moving forward. Bai Ruozhu once again saw cloth pieces floating on the river. Generally, Jiang Yichun could not control their drifting position in the flowing river, so the cloth should drift away with the current, but now, it seems the cloth remained stationary on the water surface, unaffected by the flow.

Bai Ruozhu squinted her eyes and looked closely, realizing the cloth was not floating on the surface, but was being supported by an ice pillar maintaining its position in the water.

Achun’s skill in controlling water vapor to create ice has improved.

This time, the cloth appeared near the shore. Bai Ruozhu hurriedly told the helmsman, "Prepare to dock."

There was no pier nearby, so the ship couldn’t stop, only getting as close to the shore as possible. Sure enough, Bai Ruozhu further discovered cloth frozen in place in the water.

"Tracked him to the shore," Bai Ruozhu said.

"What should we do now?" Gao Zhou asked anxiously.

"I believe Achun will soon send me a message. For now, let’s disembark—leaving the river gives us an advantage." Bai Ruozhu said.

However, people from Chengshui didn’t mind; if there was a grand canal leading to Chengshui, they would naturally prefer taking the water route straight back to Chengshui, but unfortunately there isn’t.

"Everyone, get ready. We’ll take a small boat to shore," Bai Ruozhu said.

The person in charge on the boat stepped forward, "Lord Bai, shall we dock at the next pier and wait for your message?"

Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment, "Alright, thank you."

She truly didn’t want to continue on the water; though traveling by boat was fast and less bumpy, it was always full of unexpected troubles. Previously, she was even captured by Zhou Jue on this canal, who was also from Chengshui.

But if they didn’t take the water route, the journey would take considerably longer, and the mother of Xue Zhi, whom she promised to treat, might not be able to wait that long.

So she could only let the boat wait for now, and as soon as she reunited with Achun, they could rescue Little Dengdeng.

...

"Return my cat, or your subordinates will soon suffer from poison," Little Dengdeng said, glaring at the man in the horse carriage.

The man laughed, "So young and already skilled with poison, impressive, but do you think I care about the life of a servant?"

He said while touching Snowball’s head with his gloved hand. A few strands of Snowball’s white fur stuck to his glove.

He shook his hand disdainfully, yet still didn’t return Snowball to Little Dengdeng.

Little Dengdeng was very angry; the man in front had strong inner strength and wasn’t affected by his poison. He couldn’t outpower the opponent.

Suddenly, Snowball meowed and bit the man’s finger.

"Seeking death!" The man didn’t expect the seemingly weak cat could pierce his inner strength and bite his finger, his face darkened. He lifted his other hand to swat at Snowball.

"No!" Little Dengdeng screamed, not wanting Snowball to die.

A thin red line suddenly shot out from Little Dengdeng’s chest, rushing towards the man’s eyes.

The man was alarmed, hurriedly jumping back, leaping out of the cabin, and releasing Snowball, which quickly returned to its young master’s arms.

"Meow~ Meow~" Snowball cried, nestling into the young master’s chest, appearing frightened and seeking comfort.

Dengdeng hugged it tightly with pity, while the red line rapidly retracted back into his inner garment.

He tossed out a mechanical dog positioned at the cabin’s door.

"You captured me for a purpose, didn’t you? I suggest you not provoke me any further," Little Dengdeng said.

The man furrowed his brow tightly, jumping back onto the carriage but hesitated to rush back into the cabin, instead standing near the coachman’s position.

"What was that you just did? Jiuli people’s mechanical technique?" he asked.

"Scared, aren’t you? You haven’t seen the more powerful aspects of Jiuli mechanical technique." Little Dengdeng shouted.

In fact, he was also frightened; he didn’t know what happened, seeming as if the mysterious inner garment his parents worried about so much had helped him.

Perhaps the inner garment is some kind of magical treasure, like a fairy’s treasure, that can protect him.

Of course, he wouldn’t tell the villain that, lest he wanted to steal his treasured item, as he had tried to grab his cat just now.

The man said nothing more, sitting by the coachman, while the person inside the cabin, affected by poison, breathed faintly—clearly he didn’t care about his subordinate’s life or death.

Little Dengdeng ultimately couldn’t bear to kill, discreetly giving the antidote to the afflicted individual, though it didn’t act immediately, rather detoxifying slowly, making the person sleep for a while.

His father had said, be ruthless with enemies when necessary; his mother had also said, avoid killing if possible, but prioritize self-protection.

The horse carriage continued moving southward, Little Dengdeng growing anxious, pondering what would happen if his parents couldn’t find him.

"Hey, where are you taking me?" he asked out loud.

"Chengshui," the man replied without hiding.

"What’s your plan? Use me to threaten my parents? I tell you, don’t underestimate me just because I’m young. I’d rather die than let you succeed." Little Dengdeng said.

The man laughed heartily, "Why would I threaten them? I only want to invite them home."

"Home? We were originally heading home; it’s you who kidnapped me, delaying our journey," Little Dengdeng said angrily.

"You mean Beiyu City? That’s not your real home; your family is from Chengshui and should’ve returned there long ago." The man said deeply, eyes looking southward, exactly towards Chengshui Country.

"In Chengshui, there are waters and small bridges everywhere; the city scenery is especially pleasant, feeling like spring all year round—you’ll surely love it there."

He gazed through the slightly parted curtain due to the swaying, watching Little Dengdeng, and asked, "You can swim, right?"

"Of course I can," Little Dengdeng replied.

"As expected of a child from Chengshui Country, born knowing how to swim." The man laughed heartily.
