Chapter 745: Chapter 742: Not Offending Clara Means Not Offending Him

Clara Grant froze for a moment, then... the corner of her mouth couldn’t help but twitch. She really hadn’t meant to cause such a misunderstanding!

’Poppy’s ability to misunderstand was just... truly something else!’

With an awkward smile, Clara Grant watched them go until they disappeared through the door of the doctor’s office. Only then did she look away and let out a breath.

She couldn’t help but lower her gaze, her hand moving to gently caress her stomach.

’You have to communicate things right away. Besides, a pregnancy isn’t something you can hide forever. She definitely had to tell Seth Quinn.’

’Better to tell him sooner rather than later. In fact, she might as well tell him as soon as she got home.’

...

Clara Grant was walking out of the main hospital entrance, about to hail a taxi, when her phone rang.

She took out her phone and froze for a second when she saw the number belonged to Cedric Grant.

Ever since the banquet, she hadn’t heard anything from Cedric Grant, Jean Jarvis, or Chloe Grant, nor had she made any effort to follow up on them.

And they, in turn, hadn’t bothered her or her mother again. For Cedric Grant to call her so suddenly felt surreal, as if from another lifetime.

After a moment’s hesitation, she answered. Her voice was cold. "What is it?"

"Clara, it’s... Dad. I’d like to see you. Are you free right now?"

Clara Grant didn’t answer. ’Even though it’s been proven he’s my biological father,’ she thought, ’it’s also been proven just how pathetic he is. To be duped about whether his own wife had been violated, to question if his own daughter was even his—how could he be so easily fooled!’

Seeing her silence, Cedric Grant spoke again, his voice rushed. "Clara, I don’t have any ulterior motives, and I’m not trying to bother you. I just want to see you, to talk for a bit... Is that okay?"

Clara Grant’s initial impulse was to refuse. But perhaps it was his final question—so cautious, so heartbreakingly sad—that on some strange impulse, she found herself saying a single word: "Okay."

...

In the coffee shop, the father and daughter, Cedric Grant and Clara Grant, sat facing each other.

Cedric Grant pushed a cup of coffee toward Clara, saying a bit awkwardly, "I didn’t know what kind you like, so I just ordered one for you."

Clara Grant lowered her gaze to the coffee before her and couldn’t help but find it ironic. ’A father and daughter who lived together for over twenty years, yet he didn’t even know that she didn’t like coffee at all.’

"Clara, since that day... I’ve kicked Jean Jarvis out of the Grant Family home." Seeing her sitting with her head down in silence, Cedric Grant spoke again, his voice cautious. "But, Chloe... she’s a daughter of the Grant Family, after all. So, she’s still living at home."

Clara Grant finally looked up, her brow furrowed slightly. "I’ve said it before. How you handle it is your family’s affair. You don’t need to go out of your way to explain it to me."

"That’s not what I meant. I just wanted to say that I’ve done a lot of thinking these past few days, and I’ve come to understand many things. I was too foolish before, and I hurt both you and your mother."

"Now that your mother has Marcus Jarvis by her side, I feel much more at ease. And don’t worry, I won’t bother her again. As for you... you married Seth Quinn. Never mind that you’ve married into the Quinn Family, securing a life of wealth and privilege—just seeing how well Seth treats you is enough to put my mind at ease."

"Whether you forgive me or not, I’m still your biological father. No matter what, I will always wish you well."

Part of the reason he said this was because he genuinely felt he had wronged Skylar Hayes and Clara Grant. But another, larger part was because of the swift downfall of the Shelby Family.

The Shelby Family had been far more powerful than the Grant Family, yet Seth Quinn had still driven them to complete bankruptcy with such ease.

’So, it was best not to get on Seth Quinn’s bad side!’

’And for Seth Quinn, a man known throughout all of Novaria for being an obsessively doting husband, not offending Clara was the same as not offending him!’
