Chapter 737: Chapter 734: From Now On, I’ve Given Up on Her

Clara Grant saw the hesitant look on his face and knew what he wanted to ask. After a moment’s hesitation, she said, "Are you asking about Autumn Shelby? She... was taken away by the police."

Sierra Sutton seemed to have expected this outcome. He closed his eyes, then opened them again. Looking at Clara, he asked, "She... she isn’t hurt, is she?"

Before Clara could answer, River Sterling, who was standing to the side, lost his composure. With a look of utter disbelief and exasperation, he burst out, "You’re still worried about her, even now? If it weren’t for her, would you be in this state? Don’t you hate her? Your left hand is ruined because of her—"

River realized he had said too much, and his words came to an abrupt halt. Sierra lowered his gaze to his left hand. He tried to move his fingers, but they seemed beyond his control, showing no reaction at all.

He then tried wiggling the fingers of his right hand. They moved.

Sierra remembered instinctively putting up his left hand to shield himself when the car hit.

A sinking feeling washed over Sierra as he vaguely understood, but he still frowned at River and asked, "My left hand... what’s wrong with it?"

But River couldn’t bear to answer him. He pressed his lips together and said nothing.

Clara was about to tell him in a gentler way, but before she could speak, Seth Quinn answered him bluntly. "Your left hand is severely damaged. The doctor said there will be lasting complications."

Even though he didn’t like Sierra, his directness wasn’t meant to crush him or anything of the sort. He just felt that Sierra was a man and needed to face things on his own.

Besides, there was no difference between telling him the truth now or later. He would have to face it sooner or later.

Clara quickly added, "But don’t worry. The doctor also said that with physical therapy, it will recover... It won’t be that different from before..."

’That was honestly the best comfort she could offer. Even if she tried to reassure him now that his hand would recover completely without any issues, he would still find out the truth eventually.’

She thought Sierra would be devastated after hearing this, but his expression remained calm.

Clara hesitated for a moment before asking, "Do you really... not hate Autumn Shelby at all?"

Sierra slowly shook his head, a faint, sorrowful smile touching his lips. "I was the one who insisted on loving her. When you’re hurt by the person you willingly love, what is there to hate? But... while I don’t hate her, I’ve completely given up on her now."

Sierra’s gaze turned vacant as he stared at the ceiling and continued, "I no longer hope that she’ll one day love me back. I no longer hope that she’ll return to the U.S.A. with us. I no longer hope that the three of us can live happily ever after as a family!"

A wave of emotion washed over Clara. ’She truly believed that Autumn Shelby losing a good man like Sierra was the greatest loss of her life.’

’But it didn’t matter how much outsiders could see Sierra’s good qualities; Autumn Shelby couldn’t. Anything more said would be useless.’

...

About half a month later, Sierra had recovered well and was finally able to be discharged from the hospital.

On the day of his discharge, Clara, holding the baby, dragged a reluctant Seth Quinn along to personally drive over and pick him up.

"Clara, Seth Quinn, thank you for everything these past few weeks. You’ve been taking care of my child for so long, I’ve really been a bother." Looking at how well his son had been cared for, Sierra thanked Clara and Seth Quinn from the bottom of his heart.

Previously, he hadn’t liked Seth Quinn because of Autumn Shelby, but now his opinion of him had changed.

Clara smiled and playfully tickled the baby, saying casually, "Samuel, you’re being too formal. The baby is adorable. His stay at Orchidia really livened the place up."

After speaking, she seemed to remember something and asked, "Oh, by the way, Samuel, your left hand isn’t fully recovered yet. If you’re staying in a hotel after being discharged, will you be able to take care of the baby by yourself?"

Sierra smiled. "I’m planning to take the baby back to the U.S.A. Our flight is tonight. I’ve already booked the tickets."

Clara was taken aback. "So soon?"

"We’ve been back for a long time. There are things waiting for me back in the U.S.A., so it’s time to go." He paused for a moment, then continued, "But before I leave, I want to go see her."
