Chapter 723 - 720: It’s All Your Fault

Chapter 723: Chapter 720: It’s All Your Fault

Autumn Shelby had assumed that when her father finally spoke, it would be to defend her. But upon hearing Evan Shelby’s words, she looked at him in disbelief and cried out, "Dad!"

’How could he do this? He’s my own father, yet right now he’s pinning everything on me!’

"Don’t call me Dad! You shameless thing! Don’t make the entire Shelby Family take the fall for what you’ve done. I’m telling you, go and beg for forgiveness from your uncle, your aunt, and Seth right now. If they don’t forgive you, then from this day forward, you are no longer a daughter of the Shelby Family!"

At that moment, all Evan Shelby could think about was saving the Shelby Family. To do that, he had to shift the blame completely. He needed to make the Quinn Family believe that Autumn Shelby and Sierra Sutton were the only ones involved, and that he and the rest of the Shelby Family had nothing to do with it.

’He hoped Autumn would understand his predicament and grasp his true meaning. He wanted her to follow his lead and take all the responsibility onto herself and Sierra Sutton.’

But he had forgotten that what Autumn Shelby needed most right now was not for him to join the Quinn Family in kicking her while she was down, but for someone to defend her.

And it was her own father, of all people!

She couldn’t help but turn to Yvette Zimmerman, her eyes full of hope. ’My mother loves me most. She’ll definitely protect me.’

But Yvette Zimmerman only looked back at her, her eyes welling with helpless tears, and said nothing.

’In truth, Yvette desperately wanted to go to her daughter, pull her into an embrace, and shield her from every blow and curse.’

’But she couldn’t! Autumn was used to living the life of a pampered young lady. If the Shelby Family fell, how would she survive?’

’If she endures this injustice today, she’ll still have the Shelby Family to back her up later. She can go back to the U.S.A. with Sierra and the child and start over.’

And so, Yvette Zimmerman bit her lip, looked away, and hardened her heart, refusing to look at her daughter any longer.

Listening to her father’s final, cutting words and seeing her mother’s tight-lipped forbearance, Autumn Shelby fell into despair. ’She had nothing left. Seth Quinn, the man she loved more than anything, didn’t want her. Theodore Quinn and Sienna Hale, who had once treated her like their own daughter, must now be utterly disgusted with her.’

’And now, were her own parents planning to abandon her too?’

’So that was it. In their hearts, she was nowhere near as important as the interests of the Shelby Family!’

A mournful, quiet laugh escaped Autumn Shelby’s lips. She stared intently at Evan Shelby and said, "You didn’t know what happened back then? Who was it that came up with the idea for me to go to the U.S.A. after finding out I was pregnant? And who kept making excuses to hide it from Seth? It was all you, wasn’t it?!"

"You!" Evan Shelby was so furious he could have spit blood. "Autumn Shelby, what nonsense are you talking about? You clearly told me you had depression and needed to get away for a while. How was I supposed to know you were pregnant..."

"Enough!" Autumn Shelby roared, cutting him off before he could finish. "Dad, I’m your daughter! Everyone says parents love their children more than anything, but what about you?

In the past, for the sake of the Shelby Family and the Shelby Group, you insisted I had to marry Seth Quinn. Now, for the sake of the Shelby Family and the Shelby Group again, you’re washing your hands of all responsibility.

I suppose in your heart, the family business is more important than anyone, isn’t it? And your own power and status are more important than anyone, right?

I can’t love any man but Seth Quinn. I have no other goal in life besides marrying him. I can’t find—and I don’t even want to find—the happiness that should have been mine. This is all your fault!"
