A Night of Desire
Chapter 713 - 710: Whose Child Is It?
Chapter 713: Chapter 710: Whose Child Is It?
He hadn’t wanted to come. After all, he and Seth Quinn had no real connection. They were basically love rivals, so what was there to reminisce about?
But in the end, he came anyway. Perhaps deep down, he also wanted to see him—the man Autumn had once loved so devotedly, the one she still couldn’t forget or let go of.
But from the look of things, this clearly wasn’t going to be a simple reunion.
Before Sierra Sutton could even get a clear look at who was there, his eyes were drawn to the large screen at the front of the hall, where a slideshow of photos was playing.
They were photos of him, the baby, and Clara Grant. Sierra Sutton was stunned. ’Who took these? And how did they end up here?’
When Yvette Zimmerman saw Sierra Sutton enter with the child in his arms, she hesitated for only a second before striding up to him to launch a preemptive strike.
"Sierra, when did you get back? Why didn’t you say a word to me or your uncle? We only found out you were back after seeing those photos. You silly boy, how could you come back to the country and not even stop by to see us?"
As she spoke, she feigned a close look at her grandson, then continued, "Sierra, this is the child from the photos, isn’t he? Whose is he?"
Yvette Zimmerman’s sudden appearance took Sierra Sutton by surprise. He was still processing it when he heard her next words.
A shadow flickered in Sierra Sutton’s eyes before he schooled his expression back to normal. "Auntie, what are you doing here?"
As he spoke, his gaze subconsciously drifted, and that’s when he saw her—Autumn Shelby.
Sierra Sutton wasn’t particularly surprised. If Yvette Zimmerman was at the Quinn family’s home, then it stood to reason that Autumn Shelby would be there as well.
"Oh, well, today was supposed to be your Uncle Quinn’s sixtieth birthday. We were all here to celebrate, but... something unexpected happened, and, well, here we are," Yvette Zimmerman explained vaguely.
Just then, Evan Shelby also walked up to him, his tone heavy with meaning. "Sierra, we called you here because there are some things we need to ask you. When we do, you are to answer truthfully, without hiding a single thing. Understand?"
On the surface, there seemed to be nothing wrong with Yvette Zimmerman’s reaction or Evan Shelby’s words. After all, Sierra Sutton was the Shelby family’s adopted son. It was only natural for his adoptive mother, Yvette, to be a little emotional upon seeing him.
And it was just as normal for his adoptive father, Evan Shelby, to offer a few words of instruction.
And yet, Sierra Sutton couldn’t help but frown.
The baby in his arms, who had been looking rather bored, apathetically shifted his gaze away from Yvette Zimmerman and Evan Shelby. His little eyes darted around the hall, looking from one person to the next.
Suddenly, his gaze fixed on one spot. A happy, excited smile spread across his little face as he called out in a tiny, milky voice, "Mama..."
After shouting, he twisted his head to look at Sierra Sutton and chirped happily, "Dada, Mama," as if to tell him he’d spotted his mother.
With that, he immediately began to squirm, trying to get down from Sierra Sutton’s arms.
Those two simple words from the baby made Autumn Shelby’s heart sink. ’How could I have forgotten? The baby knows how to say ’Mama.’ He recognizes me.’
’I planned for every possibility, but I never accounted for the baby.’
As panic seized her, the baby was already down from Sierra Sutton’s arms, scampering forward on his short little legs.
Autumn Shelby’s heart leaped into her throat, and she instinctively squeezed her eyes shut.
