Chapter 709: Chapter 706: She Couldn’t Disregard His Feelings
Others might not have understood the look in her eyes, but Cedric Grant knew exactly what it meant.
Jean Jarvis had something on him. If he actually agreed to Theodore Quinn’s suggestion and sent her to the police, she would undoubtedly expose the fact that he had falsely claimed to be Theodore’s savior.
She had told him she didn’t mind dragging him down with her in mutual destruction.
’And right now, I can’t let myself be put in that position!’
’The past has been brought to light, and while I wasn’t the main perpetrator in that incident and bear little responsibility, I did betray Skylar Hayes over twenty years ago. Worse, just a year ago, I divorced her because I blindly believed Jean, causing both her and Clara so much suffering.’
’It’s not certain if they’ll ever forgive me. I can’t afford a single misstep right now. Otherwise, I’ll lose what little dignity I have left in their eyes, along with any chance of earning their forgiveness.’
’If I lose my connection to them completely, how can I hope to cozy up to the Quinn family? And how could I ever expect to make the Shelby Family flourish under my leadership?’
"Guards, take Jean Jarvis—" Theodore Quinn had just begun to give the order when Cedric Grant flinched and raised a hand to stop him. "Wait... Brother Quinn, I know what Jean did is truly unforgivable. But I bear some of the responsibility for her actions.
Besides, no matter what, we were husband and wife. I think after everything that’s happened today, she must realize the error of her ways.
You said it yourself earlier, this is a Grant family matter. So I think it’s best if we handle it internally."
"Cedric, I don’t think that’s right," Sienna Hale interjected before Theodore Quinn could speak, unable to hold her tongue.
"This might be your family’s business, but it’s not *entirely* your business. Clara is a daughter-in-law of the Quinn family, and Skylar is her mother. When our daughter-in-law and her mother are framed, the Quinn family absolutely has a say in how to deal with the culprit, don’t you think?
Failing that, you should at least ask the victims themselves. Hear their opinions on how Jean Jarvis ought to be handled."
’That Jean Jarvis... to think she’d use such low-down tricks to frame Skylar Hayes and Clara Grant. I almost made Seth divorce Clara back then, all because I looked down on her background.’
"That’s right! She made Skylar and Clara suffer so much. Shouldn’t we ask for their opinion?"
Sarah Shelby couldn’t help but chime in, but she reluctantly fell silent after Ewan Stratton shot her a single, expressionless glance over his shoulder.
"Yes, yes, of course. We should ask for Skylar and Clara’s opinions." Cedric Grant said, turning to Skylar Hayes. "Skylar, I know you hate Jean, and you hate me, too. After all, she was the one who drove a wedge between us, leading to our divorce. And I not only betrayed our love, but I also listened to her and broke your heart..."
"No!" Skylar Hayes cut him off before he could finish. "I’ve told you before that I could choose not to hate you. Now, I hate you even less. I don’t hate you because you aren’t worthy of my hatred.
As for her," she continued, "I think I should actually thank her. If she hadn’t done all those things, I never would have seen you for who you truly are.
Thank her for making you divorce me, so I could start my own, much better life.
So, this is between the two of you. I don’t care how you resolve it."
In truth, that was only one reason she decided to let Jean Jarvis off the hook. Another was her feeling that, no matter what, Jean was still Marcus Jarvis’s cousin.
Since Marcus had been righteous enough to go against his own family and bring in Adam Warren to prove her innocence and clear her name, she couldn’t completely disregard his feelings or the bond he shared with Jean.
