Chapter 670: Chapter 667: Someone Is Following Her
Chloe Grant quickly arrived at the mall entrance. She got out of her car and glanced around, but she didn’t see a single familiar face.
She pulled out her phone to make a call, which connected almost immediately. "Hey, where are you guys? I can’t see a single one of you... Okay, okay, fine. Just hurry up. I’ll wait for you inside the mall. Call me when you get here."
With that, she hung up.
It was the middle of the day, so the mall wasn’t very crowded. Chloe Grant strolled through the main entrance, completely unaware that someone was furtively following her from not far behind.
Chloe wandered around the mall by herself for a bit. Seeing that her friends still hadn’t called, she pulled out her phone to check it. Somehow, she lost her grip for a second and her phone fell to the floor.
The phone hit the floor with a sharp SMACK, startling Chloe. Snapping back to her senses, she bent down to pick it up.
She breathed a sigh of relief only after picking it up and seeing it was undamaged and still working.
Wiping the screen with her finger, she stood up. As she did, her gaze swept casually across a full-length mirror not far in front of her, and Chloe froze.
In the mirror’s reflection, she saw a man standing not far behind her. He was wearing a baseball cap, its brim pulled down so low she couldn’t see his eyes or face, but she had the distinct feeling he was staring right at her.
Chloe frowned and turned her head to look. A short distance away, a man stood with his back to her, intently flipping through clothes on a rack. Nothing about him seemed out of the ordinary.
She let her eyes scan the surroundings again. Everything was normal.
Chloe finally turned back to face the mirror again.
The space behind her was empty. The man was gone.
Shrugging, Chloe decided not to dwell on it. She put her phone back in her bag and continued to wander aimlessly.
And yet, she couldn’t shake the feeling that a pair of eyes was watching her from behind.
After taking a few more steps, she abruptly stopped and whipped around. Again, there was nothing out of the ordinary behind her—just a few scattered shoppers, all minding their own business.
Although she saw nothing, a sudden fear began to take hold of Chloe.
After a moment’s thought, she stopped going deeper into the mall and instead turned back, heading for the entrance.
It sounded like footsteps were following her. Not daring to look back, Chloe simply quickened her pace.
Eventually, she broke into a light run.
Just as she neared the mall entrance, Chloe suddenly heard someone up ahead call her name. Looking up, she saw her friends waving as they approached.
Chloe quickly picked up her pace and rushed over to her friends.
A weight was finally lifted from her shoulders. As she let out a sigh of relief, she instinctively glanced behind her. The man in the baseball cap saw her meet up with her friends and stopped in his tracks. He gave her one last look before changing direction, heading the other way and quickly disappearing from sight.
Their eyes met for barely a second, and Chloe still couldn’t see his face clearly, yet she felt a strange, inexplicable sense of familiarity about him.
Chloe frowned, searching her memory, but couldn’t place him at all.
"Chloe, what’s wrong with you? We were just about to call. Why’d you suddenly come running out like that? And so fast, too!"
Her friend’s voice pulled her from her thoughts. Chloe quickly composed herself and replied with a casual smile, "I just had a feeling you guys were close, so I ran out to greet you. See how eager I am?"
