Chapter 661 - 658: Let Me Guess Whose Daughter-in-law You Are
Chapter 661: Chapter 658: Let Me Guess Whose Daughter-in-law You Are
As Clara Grant held the baby, she suddenly felt her phone vibrate in her bag. She took it out and glanced at the screen. It was Seth Quinn.
When Sierra Sutton saw her take out her phone, she quickly took the baby from her arms. Clara Grant smiled apologetically and said, "Mr. Sutton, I’m just going to take this call."
With that, she walked a short distance away and tapped the answer button.
Before she could even say a word, she heard Seth Quinn’s slightly anxious voice. "Clara, I’ve been calling you. Why haven’t you been picking up?"
"Huh? Oh, my phone was on silent. I didn’t hear it."
Seth paused on the other end of the line before speaking again. "Oh, right. I forgot you’re supposed to be in class right now. That’s why your phone’s on silent, isn’t it?"
Clara thought, ’It would be too complicated to explain right now,’ so she just went along with it. "Yeah. Oh, Seth, did you need something?"
"So I can’t call my wife unless I need something?" Seth chuckled on the other end, teasing her.
Clara laughed. "You can, of course you can."
"Is Mom okay?" Seth asked.
"She’s doing all right. Her emotions seem stable. But I should still go back and spend more time with her over the next few days."
"I’ll go with you to have dinner with her tomorrow."
"Okay."
After they exchanged a few more words, there was some noise on Seth’s end, as if someone was giving him a work report. Then, Seth’s voice came through again. "Something just came up here, so I have to go. I’ll pick you up from school after your class is over."
"That’s okay," Clara said, glancing over at Sierra and Samuel Sutton in the distance. "I probably won’t be home that early. I’ll just take a cab home."
Seth didn’t think much of it and asked, "Do you have plans with Sarah Shelby?"
Other than himself, Sarah Shelby was the only person he could think of.
Clara just hummed in agreement. It was too hard to explain over the phone; she’d just tell him everything when she got back.
"All right, then. I’ll hang up now," Seth said, and ended the call.
Clara put her phone away, walked back to Sierra Sutton, and went back to playing with the baby.
...
On the way back, the baby finally gave in to sleepiness and dozed off, snuggled against Clara Grant.
Clara carefully shifted him in her arms, cradling him so he could sleep more comfortably.
Sierra Sutton glanced in the rearview mirror. "Is he asleep?" she asked.
Clara hummed a quiet "mhm," as if worried a louder sound would wake the baby in her arms.
"Miss Grant, you should put him in the car seat. It must be tiring to hold him like that. Where are you headed? I’ll drop you off first."
As she spoke, Sierra Sutton pulled the car over to the side of the road.
Clara glanced at the car seat beside her, then hesitated before shaking her head. "It’s all right. He just fell asleep, and moving him might wake him up. Besides, he wouldn’t be as comfortable in there. I’ll just keep holding him.
Why don’t you head to your place first? That way the baby can lie down and get some proper sleep in a bed. I can just get a cab from there."
Sierra Sutton glanced at her sleeping son and didn’t insist. She just seemed a little embarrassed. "All right, then. But I feel bad for taking up so much of your time, only for you to have to get a cab home on your own."
Clara smiled. "I love babies, so I’m more than happy to hold him a little longer."
As Sierra Sutton started the car again, she said sincerely, "Miss Grant, you love children so much. You’ll definitely be a wonderful mother when you have your own."
"Me?" Clara paused, taken aback. "I think it’ll be a while before I become a mother. My husband... he’s not ready to have kids yet."
Sierra Sutton looked a little surprised. "I’m surprised you’re already married, Miss Grant. You seem so young."
Clara smiled and said, "I know. I didn’t expect to get married so young, either. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. My husband is very good to me, and my in-laws are wonderful, too.
His family is what you’d call a true elite family, while I’m just from an ordinary one. And yet, they accepted me."
Sierra Sutton glanced at her in the rearview mirror, her expression thoughtful. "A true elite family... Novaria has plenty of those. Let me guess which family’s daughter-in-law you are..."
