A Night of Desire
Chapter 654 - 651: You’re Not the One Who Wronged Me
Chapter 654: Chapter 651: You’re Not the One Who Wronged Me
Skylar Hayes didn’t say anything, and Marcus Jarvis continued, "I know you were a little upset just now when I said I’d help Jean no matter what. But she’s my cousin, my family, after all. It’s a bit awkward when your good friend marries your ex-husband..."
"It’s not just awkward!" Skylar Hayes suddenly cut him off. "I never told you this before, but Jean Jarvis... she got together with Cedric Grant over twenty years ago. And their daughter is only a few months younger than Clara.
Back then, she was my best friend. She knew full well that Cedric Grant was my husband, yet she still chose to be with him and have his child.
And they played me for a fool, deceiving me for more than twenty years. I only found out the truth last year. So, how do you think I feel when I see them?
I didn’t know your connection to Jean Jarvis before, but now that I do, I can’t possibly interact with you as openly as I used to, without any reservations."
Marcus Jarvis was taken aback. Skylar Hayes had only ever told him that her husband divorced her and married someone else because of a humiliating incident she had endured. She’d never told him any of this.
He genuinely had no idea that Cedric Grant had betrayed their marriage twenty years ago, or that Jean Jarvis had betrayed their friendship over two decades ago.
"Skylar, I’m so sorry. I thought Cedric Grant and Jean only got together after you divorced. I honestly had no idea that she was the other woman who destroyed your marriage..."
Skylar Hayes glanced at him and said coolly, "You have nothing to apologize for. You’re not the one who wronged me. I need some space, so please don’t come looking for me for a while. And you don’t have to give me a ride; I’ll just get a cab."
Just as she finished speaking, she spotted an approaching taxi and hailed it. Before Marcus Jarvis could stop her, she had already jumped in and told the driver to go.
Marcus Jarvis took a few steps after the car, but it was quickly out of sight. He could only stand there, letting out a heavy sigh.
RING RING RING...
His phone rang. He pulled it out and answered the call.
"President Jarvis, we’ve got a lead on the person you had us look into..."
Marcus Jarvis glanced up in the direction Skylar Hayes’s taxi had disappeared, listening intently to the caller.
A moment later, his brow furrowed slightly. "How could you lose him?... Well, keep searching until you find him again."
After hanging up, Marcus Jarvis got into his car and drove off in the opposite direction.
...
Seth Quinn first drove Clara Grant back to campus. Clara was quiet the whole time, worried about Skylar Hayes and Marcus Jarvis.
"What’s on your mind?" Seth Quinn glanced over at her, unable to resist asking.
Clara Grant turned to look at him. "Nothing much. I’m just worried about my mom."
Seth Quinn reassured her, "Don’t worry. Your mom might seem fragile, but she’s incredibly strong on the inside. If she weren’t, she would have fallen apart a year ago."
Clara Grant nodded. ’It’s true,’ she thought. ’Back then, Mom had to deal with Dad wanting a divorce, the humiliation she suffered, and finding out her best friend had an affair with her husband over two decades ago and even had a daughter with him.’
’Faced with so much all at once, it would be hard for anyone to take.’
"Sigh... I just can’t believe Uncle Jarvis is actually Jean Jarvis’s cousin! I wonder if Mom will really stop seeing him for good now," Clara Grant sighed.
"Try not to overthink it. Just let things run their course."
