Chapter 639: Chapter 636: Where’s the Evidence?

"Besides, the police were right there with us when I spoke to her. How could I possibly have the nerve to tell her to hide the truth from them, right in front of an officer?

Clara, who told you this? You wouldn’t just make something up to slander me, would you? Please don’t let someone with an agenda take advantage of you."

Faye Jennings’ words were laced with barbs, and Clara Grant certainly heard them.

"Don’t worry. I don’t use people, and I won’t be used by them either."

Hearing Faye Jennings defend herself so calmly, Clara Grant had to admit she admired her composure.

If Sandra hadn’t told her everything herself, Clara Grant might have actually believed her.

"I went to see Sandra a few days ago. She’s the one who told me. Of course you wouldn’t have said that in front of the police. You wrote it on a slip of paper and secretly passed it to her, didn’t you?"

"Of course not!" Although Faye Jennings was trying her best to stay composed, she was clearly agitated now. "That’s all Sandra’s nonsense! She can’t stand the thought of going down alone, so she’s trying to drag me down with her."

"If it’s just nonsense, why are you getting so worked up?" Seth Quinn asked, his voice cold.

"I’m angry and worked up precisely *because* it’s nonsense. Yes, I’m the one who reported her, but she did something wrong, and I couldn’t just cover for her. I usually took very good care of her. How could she repay my kindness with such malice, just because she can’t stand the thought of going down alone?

She says I wrote her a note and secretly passed it to her? Fine, then tell her to produce the evidence. Where’s the note? Huh? Let’s see the note first, then we can check if it’s my handwriting. Wouldn’t that clear everything up? What’s the point of all this talk?"

’I even wrote ’destroy after reading’ on the note. Since the police haven’t uncovered the truth after all this time, Sandra must have destroyed it.’

’Since the note’s destroyed and there’s no evidence, I won’t admit to anything. I absolutely can’t admit it!’

"The note’s obviously been destroyed. How could a suspect possibly hide something on them in a detention center?"

Sandra had told her she’d stuffed the note in her mouth and swallowed it when no one was looking. What evidence could possibly be left?

"Since there’s no evidence, isn’t it unfair for you to just speculate like this? As for Sandra, she’s clearly just biting the hand that fed her, trying to drag me down with her before the end."

Knowing there was no evidence, Faye Jennings’ confidence returned.

"She isn’t biting the hand that fed her, and she wasn’t trying to drag you down. In fact, she’s always been very grateful to you. She said she was so thankful you helped her figure out what to do back then." Clara Grant couldn’t help but sigh. ’Poor Sandra,’ she thought, ’still feeling so indebted to Faye Jennings. How heartbroken would she be if she heard what Faye is saying about her?’

"Is that so?" Faye Jennings sneered. "If she’s so grateful, why is she slandering me with these baseless accusations?"

"Baseless, you say?" Seth Quinn interjected again, pulling out a phone and holding it up for her to see. "In that case, why don’t we listen to this?"

Both Faye Jennings and Clara Grant looked at the phone in his hand. Seth Quinn unlocked the screen, tapped it a few times, and a voice emerged from the speaker.

"...Your only job is to convince her that the item isn’t real and can’t possibly hurt anyone, then sell it to her for a low price. Don’t worry about the money. I’ll pay you double the original price." The female voice on the recording was unmistakably Faye Jennings’.
