A Night of Desire
Chapter 637 - 634: She Is Her Natural Nemesis
Chapter 637: Chapter 634: She Is Her Natural Nemesis
Clara Grant looked at her without a word, then turned to Seth Quinn on the sofa.
Seth Quinn beckoned to her. "Clara, come here."
Clara walked over and sat down beside him.
Watching Clara and Seth Quinn sitting so closely together, Faye Jennings clenched her fists in resentment.
When Assistant Childs had called to say Seth Quinn wanted to see her, she had been ecstatic, thinking he’d had a change of heart and was no longer going to shelve her career.
Just moments before, she had been thrilled. She and Seth Quinn were finally alone in the office, giving her another chance to be with him.
But her joy was short-lived. Clara had appeared.
’Clara... is she my nemesis?’
’Or does she have spies in the company who tell her to come crashing the party whenever Seth Quinn meets another woman?’
As these resentful thoughts ran through her mind, she heard Seth Quinn say her name. "Faye Jennings."
Even though he used her full, formal name, Faye Jennings still felt a flicker of joy. After all, she much preferred hearing him say "Faye Jennings" to the business-like "Miss Jennings."
She reined in her excitement, put on a radiant smile, and looked at Seth Quinn. "President Quinn."
"Tell me about how you used Sandra to try and harm Clara," Seth Quinn said, his voice frigid. His hawk-like gaze swept across her face.
Faye Jennings froze, a flash of panic shooting through her.
’She’d thought President Quinn had called her in because he’d changed his mind about shelving her. After all, she was Faye Jennings, Aegis’s number-one actress. She was famous, and plenty of directors and sponsors were eager to have her.’
’She could make a fortune for Aegis—for President Quinn. She was still useful. Surely he wouldn’t be willing to just cast her aside.’
’But she never expected this to be the first thing he’d say.’
’Judging by his tone, could he know everything?’
’No, that’s impossible. As far as she knew, Sandra had done exactly as she was told and hadn’t given the seller’s information to the police.’
’If she never revealed the seller’s information, how could President Quinn have possibly found out?’
’Besides, President Quinn never mentioned it again after the incident. He’d always believed Sandra was the one who did it.’
’It’s been so long, why bring it up again now?’
’He must be bluffing. Right, that has to be it. There’s no way he knows!’
At this thought, Faye Jennings forced herself to calm down. She put on a look of confusion and asked, "President Quinn, what are you talking about? I... I don’t understand."
"Is that so?" Seth Quinn’s expression grew even darker and more severe. "Sandra held a grudge because Clara took her role. She intended to use that shooting scene to give Clara a scare, so she found a bullet dealer."
"She only wanted to buy harmless, imitation bullets for a prank. But when she contacted them, she was told they were real bullets and very expensive."
"So, she gave up. The next day, however, the dealer contacted her again. They said that besides the real bullets, they also had the harmless, imitation kind for a very cheap price."
"So, she bought them and switched them into the prop gun used for the film. After the incident, she truly believed she had been scammed—that the dealer, eager to make a sale, had sold her real bullets disguised as imitations."
"What she didn’t know, however, was that she wasn’t scammed. She was set up and used. And the person who set her up, who used her... was you, Faye Jennings! The very person she trusted and admired most!"
In the more than five years that Faye Jennings had known Seth Quinn, this was the most he had ever spoken to her at once. But right now, Faye Jennings felt not a shred of excitement or joy.
The palms of her clenched fists were slick with sweat.
Yet, her face remained perfectly composed.
