Chapter 634: Chapter 631: A Necessary Reinvestigation

"No, she secretly slipped a note into my hand with those instructions." Sandra suddenly smiled. "I was so grateful to her for helping me come up with a plan back then. I was terrified and thought I was going to die for sure, so I did as she said and never dared to tell the police about the seller."

Sandra’s words left Clara Grant utterly stunned. It was Faye Jennings who had exposed Sandra, yet in the end, she had secretly taken a risk to give her such advice.

’Was it really as she’d said? Did she feel guilty for "betraying" Sandra, and that’s why she gave her that advice?’

’Or was there something else going on?’

’If it was the first case, then Faye Jennings was truly sophisticated and shrewd, a master of playing both sides. She had exposed Sandra to curry favor with Seth Quinn, yet she had also given Sandra advice on how to protect herself.’

’If it was the latter, then she really had to investigate the matter all over again.’

After she finished, Sandra seemed as if a weight had been lifted. Her tone and expression relaxed. "But I still couldn’t hold out in the end. I held on for so long, but today I confessed everything to you. Anyway, the facts are what they are. I’ll accept whatever sentence they give me.

"Or whatever punishment you and President Quinn want me to receive, I’ll accept that too. After all, I’m the one who caused him to get hurt in the end."

Clara Grant said calmly, "We can’t decide your sentence, nor do we wish to interfere. I believe the law will make sure that anyone who commits a crime receives the punishment they deserve."

...

After leaving the detention center, Clara Grant hailed a taxi to Aegis to find Seth Quinn.

This whole affair was too strange. She had to investigate it properly, but she didn’t have the means to do it herself. To get to the bottom of it, she would have to rely on Seth Quinn.

She had just walked into the company when she heard that Faye Jennings had been shelved.

"What happened? Why shelve Faye Jennings all of a sudden?" Clara Grant asked in confusion as she entered Seth Quinn’s office.

"It’s nothing. She just upset me. I’m the president of this company; shelving someone is a trivial matter, isn’t it?" Seth Quinn didn’t want her to be upset by what Faye Jennings had said, so he didn’t elaborate, just glossed over it.

Clara Grant looked skeptical. "Since when did you become so capricious? You’re shelving someone just because they upset you? You were never this impulsive."

"I’ve always been this capricious." Seth Quinn raised an eyebrow and smiled, changing the subject. "Weren’t you supposed to go home after your classes today? What brings you here?"

Clara was immediately drawn in by his question. She looked at him, a bit embarrassed, and said, "Actually, I didn’t go to my classes today. I... went to see Sandra."

She had gone behind his back, afraid Seth Quinn wouldn’t have let her see Sandra.

"You went to see her? What for? Besides, it’s too dangerous for you to go alone." Seth Quinn immediately lost his composure. This was the woman who had once wanted to kill her. Now that Sandra’s plot had been exposed and she’d been arrested, who knew how much she must hate Clara—how much she must want her dead.

’For her to just walk right up to Sandra at a time like this... what if Sandra got emotional and did something reckless?’

"What danger could I be in? Even if she wanted to do something, she wouldn’t dare in a place like that. I originally just went to tell her that I had been thinking about picking a role for her. But I ended up hearing something else while I was there."

Clara Grant said, looking at Seth Quinn. He remained silent, his eyes telling her to continue.
