Chapter 130: Edmund’s Warning
Amon stared coldly at the old man.
The moment Richard introduced him, Amon’s mind became unusually quiet.
He studied every detail of Edmund Cordo’s face and posture.
’Can I kill him right now?’ The thought came naturally.
Amon knew better than to underestimate someone like Edmund.
The old man had survived long enough to become the head of one of the influential business families in the kingdom.
People like him rarely survived by being careless.
’I’d rather get this over with before he becomes an even bigger problem.’
Edmund noticed his gaze and gave a faint smile. "You have sharp eyes for a child."
Amon didn’t respond as he kept his gaze on him.
Edmund turned toward Richard instead, his expression becoming more casual as he leaned back in his chair.
"I’m only here to make a deal."
Richard looked at Amon for a moment before giving him a small nod.
Amon drew in a deep breath and slowly walked forward until he stood close to the old man.
Edmund looked up at him without showing any fear.
Amon grabbed the chair that had been placed slightly farther away, dragged it closer, and sat down opposite him.
He crossed one leg over the other and looked directly into Edmund’s eyes.
"So, what do you want?"
Edmund shifted his seat slightly so that he could face Amon more comfortably. "I know what happened to your mother was rather unfortunate."
Anger bubbled under Amon’s skin. "...Says the man who did it."
The room became silent.
Richard remained sitting on his chair, watching the two of them without interfering.
Edmund’s expression didn’t change.
He seemed more relaxed than anything. "I don’t have a say in everything that is done by my family members. What happened to your mother was not my fault."
Amon scoffed in irritation. "You expect me to believe such a blatant lie?"
Edmund remained silent for several seconds.
The old man’s fingers slowly tapped against the armrest of his chair before he finally spoke again.
"What happened was a mistake of the past, and I don’t want to make a future powerhouse into an enemy because of it."
Amon simply looked at him.
He gave no response, refusing to give Edmund the satisfaction of knowing what he was thinking.
Edmund continued after a brief pause. "We should both forget what happened in the past."
Amon raised an eyebrow. "Why should I do that?"
"Because you have no choice." Edmund’s eyes became slightly colder. "If you continue pursuing me and my family, you will only put your own family in danger."
The moment those words left Edmund’s mouth, Amon’s hand tightened around the arm of his chair.
Crack.
A thin fracture appeared beneath his fingers.
The wooden armrest creaked under the pressure before a small piece broke away and fell onto the floor.
Edmund glanced at the damaged chair before slowly looking back at Amon.
"You should be careful about whom you choose to make an enemy of." He leaned back in his chair, his calm expression returning. "You don’t have any generational wealth, connections, or status."
Edmund paused for a moment.
"I admit that those things may eventually come to you. You have already demonstrated enough potential for that."
His eyes narrowed slightly. "But right now, you are far too vulnerable."
Amon stared at him for several seconds before letting out a quiet breath. "Is it really wise to threaten someone who is going to Royal University?"
Edmund’s lips curled into a faint smile. "I have done worse things and still lived."
Amon didn’t answer.
The confidence in the old man’s voice wasn’t completely unfounded.
Edmund wasn’t pretending to be powerful; he was reminding Amon that he had survived situations that would have destroyed ordinary nobles.
The old man slowly stood from his chair. "I will forget everything that happened, and I will forgive your family for interfering with mine."
For a moment, Amon simply stared at him before he let out a quiet chuckle.
The sheer audacity of the statement almost made him laugh.
’He is forgiving me?’ Amon shook his head slightly.
Edmund adjusted his coat before speaking one final time. "If you stay out of my family’s business, I will stay out of your life."
He turned around and began walking toward the door. He didn’t look back even once.
Amon watched him leave, his eyes following the old man’s every step until the office door finally closed behind him.
The room became quiet again.
Amon slowly turned his head toward Richard.
He stared at him for several seconds before turning his chair slightly. "How did he know you?"
Richard raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"You heard him threaten me, yet you didn’t say anything."
Amon’s gaze remained fixed on him.
Richard sighed and sat back down behind his desk. "It’s part of my job to remain neutral. I try to keep everyone as a friend, whether they’re nobles, adventurers, or ordinary citizens."
Amon continued staring at him.
"You need to be careful about Edmund." Richard eventually sighed again. "The Noble Faction is backing him."
Amon’s expression became more serious, and the information immediately caught Amon’s attention.
"Whose side are you on, Richard?"
Richard smiled. Without answering, he placed one hand beneath the desk.
Amon watched curiously as Richard reached around for something before bringing out a small recording device.
Richard placed it on the table. "Whatever Edmund said in here is recorded."
Amon’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Richard pushed the device toward him. "I’ll give you the recording. You can do whatever you want with it."
Amon remained silent, though inwardly he was pleased. ’Not bad.’
Richard had managed to remain neutral while quietly making sure Amon wouldn’t walk away empty-handed.
Amon was genuinely impressed, though he made no effort to show it.
Richard pushed the recorder slightly closer before putting his hands together on the desk.
Then his expression became serious. "There is something else I need to tell you."
Amon looked up. "What is it?"
Richard stared at him for a moment before slowly speaking. "There are problems in the capital city that are related to Dungeons."
