Zombie Apocalypse: Creation

Chapter 904: Xi’an Y-20

As Xiaoyun stepped out of the airport lobby, there were a dozen cameras directed right towards him and Houqin.

More importantly, a military aircraft was parked outside. Not just any military aircraft, but the most up-to-date.

One that overshadowed the crowd of people gathered nearby. So big that it could fit multiple cars inside it.

"You really only bringing one person with you?"

Zhangfei questioned as he approached the two of them with dozens of soldiers armed with Type 03 in hand.

"Yeah. Is there a problem with that?" Xiaoyun questioned back.

"Nope. Let’s get inside then—"

"Wait. Let’s give them some time to take pictures... Shake my hands again and smile towards the camera."

As Zhangfei and Xiaoyun turned around at the same time and shook hands, the cameras immediately started snapping pictures.

"How long are we going to wait?" Zhangfei quietly asked as the police officers acted as a barrier between them and the cameras

"You can let go of my hand now."

The moment they separated, Xiaoyun gave an eye signal to the police officers, who instantly started moving the cameraman back.

"We can go inside now."

"The way you’re saying it sounds like you’re the one who owns the plane when you’re just a passenger, you know that?"

Xiaoyun didn’t answer Zhangfei’s comment as the two of them followed him towards the cargo plane.

"You got everything, right? This trip is going to take a long time before you head back." Zhangfei warned one last time.

"I got everything. Houqin, you got everything?"

With a nod, Xiaoyun looked back over to Zhangfei, who was already in the middle of tapping his walkie-talkie.

"Open the door."

As soon as Zhangfei said it out loud, the cargo plane’s entrance began slowly descending from the aircraft to the ground.

"So many boxes..."

Houqin murmured as she immediately recognized that many of the boxes had the logo that contained canned food.

"We ain’t heading back with an empty load... Anyway, follow me. There’s a better place to sit in the front."

Walking inside, the two of them could feel every inch of space being utilized to store box upon box of food.

Only a pathway just wide enough for one person to walk through as they lined up in a single-file line through the cargo area.

"Zhangfei, how long is this flight?"

"Two to three hours... Probably three or four hours since we’re bringing so much stuff back at once."

As the two of them continued following Zhangfei further into the aircraft, they soon reached an area that didn’t have any boxes.

A tiny resting space right behind the cockpit, with the door open for them to see three plane operators sitting inside.

"Major Zhang, are we heading back now?"

"Yep."

Within seconds, they could see the excitement in the plane operator’s face, as if they were dying to hear him say yes.

"Finally."

A roar could be heard as the engine started to be turned on. Looking outside, the people standing there were long gone.

"You guys might want to wear your seatbelts. This plane ride is going to be pretty bumpy."

Xiaoyun and Houqin quickly sat down and attached their seatbelt, along with all the soldiers sitting right across from them.

The cockpit door closed as well, with the front entrance being lifted back up as the aircraft turned completely dark for a second.

"Can you guys not turn on the light?" Zhangfei complained as he yelled out loud directly towards the cockpit.

"The circuit controlling the light system broke." One of the soldiers answered before the plane operator could.

"Again?"

"You guys couldn’t find a replacement part here?" Xiaoyun asked curiously.

"Can’t fix it even if we find the part. The only guy who knows how this works is back at base... My dad will never let him leave."

As the military aircraft started to move forward, everyone could feel the drag as the plane shook several times in a row.

"Is this normal for takeoff?" Houqin asked worriedly as the steadiness increased along with the speed.

"It’s just the weight on the plane not distributed evenly. Completely normal."

Seeing both Zhangfei and the soldiers remaining perfectly calm, neither of them thought too much of it.

---

As the massive plane lifted off the ground, they could see the entirety of Guangzhou turning into a smaller and smaller dot.

"Can’t believe we’re in the sky now..."

Houqin murmured as she stopped looking out the window, with the clouds getting in the way of the view.

"Is this your first flight?" Zhangfei asked.

"No. I flew on commercial planes before. Just didn’t think I’d ever get on a plane after the outbreak." Houqin answered.

"How about you, Xiaoyun? Have you flown on a plane before?" Zhangfei questioned back as he started unbuckling his seatbelt.

"A few times... Speaking of flying, where are we landing?"

"We’re going to head to one of our bases in Ningxia Province, drop everything off, and wait for a few days.

And then fly to the capital at last. Assuming everything goes smoothly, we should be at the capital by Saturday or Sunday."

"I see..."

Xiaoyun didn’t give any comment on it, as he didn’t really have much of a choice about flying in someone else’s plane.

"Yo, Major, can we open one of the boxes?" One of the soldiers suddenly asked as he fully unbuckled his seatbelt.

"Only the top box. Don’t touch any of the ones on top of the pallets."

All of Zhangfei’s soldiers immediately got up from their seats, walking over to the only box that wasn’t stacked on top of a pallet.

They all took out a can for themselves, cutting it open with a knife before eating it right in front of their boss.

"Major, you don’t want one?" One of the younger soldiers asked.

"I’m good."

"Mhm! It’s so good!"

"Can’t believe this is the first time I’m eating a pear since the outbreak... I miss this juicy taste so much!"

As more and more soldiers got their fruit cans, both Xiaoyun and Houqin could notice Zhangfei’s face changing.

Embarrassment. He was clearly annoyed and ashamed of how his troops were behaving in front of his guest.

"Sorry for you guys to see this."

"I don’t see the need to apologize for... You mind if I open a can for myself?"

As Xiaoyun started unbuckling his seat, Zhangfei was a little surprised by his request. But he nodded in agreement.

"Go for it."

"Thanks."

Grabbing the last remaining can from the box, Xiaoyun headed back to his seat before taking out a knife from his backpack.

Pineapple inside. Just like what the front cover of the can had labeled, he picked up one of the pineapple chunks.

"Dang, this thing is a little sweet."

"Is it really that sweet?" Houqin asked curiously as she watched Xiaoyun use his knife as a fork to eat.

"Mhm. Here, you want one?"

Houqin thought about it for a second before opening her mouth, allowing him to feed her a small piece of pineapple.

"Hm! It’s so sweet!"

"Told you."

As Xiaoyun fed another piece of pineapple to Houqin’s mouth, the cargo plane suddenly fell into complete silence.

Everyone was staring at them. Even Zhangfei was looking towards the two of them. All of their faces had one thing in common.

Jealousy.

"Ahem. I-I’m full."

Houqin quickly answered, shyly looking down at the floor as she felt an immense pressure over her shoulder.

"You sure?"

After seeing her nod her head, Xiaoyun started eating it himself as he couldn’t care less about the attention he was getting.

"Xiaoyun, do you really have to flex like that?" Zhangfei grumpily murmured as he stared right at him.

"You can flex it back when you get married yourself... Let me guess, you’re the only one who’s single on this plane?"

As Xiaoyun turned over to look at Zhangfei’s soldier, all of them were resisting the urge to giggle as if he was perfectly on point.

"O-Of course not. Wu Guo, aren’t you single?"

Zhangfei questioned as he looked towards the senior soldier, who was the only one who didn’t show any emotion on his face.

"My wife died during the outbreak, sir."

"Okay, maybe that wasn’t the best example. But half of them here are all one-time rent girlfriends."

As Zhangfei continued to attempt to excuse himself, the soldiers finally couldn’t hide their laughter as they all sat closer to him.

"Major Zhang, don’t tell me you’re still a virgin. Do you need me to show you around after we get back?"

"Come on, Major, let’s help you have a little fun."

"No General’s son is going to be laughed at for not even touching a woman before. We’ve got to get you the best of the best."

"I know the best place—"

"Enough! All of you, shut up! One more word and I’ll report all of you to the Colonel for a disciplinary session."

The giggles and laughter all disappeared as they sat back down, ending the light atmosphere as the soldiers kept their mouths shut.
