Chapter 889: Taking care of business

The next day.
"Wake up, honey. You have a meeting today."
"Just a few more minutes."
As Xiaoyun rolled over to his side, his eyelids were too heavy to open. His body was more exhausted than ever despite coming home for a break.
It was almost as if the trip to Zhuhai was more of a break for him than staying at home with his wives.
"Honey... If you don’t wake up, I’m going to use your morning wood to—"
"I’m up!"
Xiaoyun immediately sat up from the bed, got out of the blanket, and headed straight towards the bathroom in a blink of an eye.
"Geez. Am I that scary?"
Leyan didn’t think too much of it as she started pulling the blanket and the bed sheet off the mattress.
"Ugh, it smells so bad."
Despite the foul odor from all the bodily fluids mixed on the bed sheet, she still carried it in her hands as she headed out into the hallway.
Once Leyan was in the laundry room, she started taking out the clothes from this morning out of the washing machine and into the dryer.
Next, she started putting each of the bedding items individually into the washing machine, putting in several detergent pods before pressing start.
"Is 45 minutes really enough? I should probably add 15 more minutes just to be safe."
After adding the extra time, Leyan finally left the laundry room as she headed downstairs, walking right by Kate and Anna in the living room.
"You two going to work already?"
"One of the engineers made a breakthrough. We can’t possibly miss it—"
As Anna interupted herself with a yawn, both of them were clearly still a little sleepy as they started putting on their shoes.
"Don’t be so harsh on your bodies, okay? You two need to remember you’re carrying a—"
"We know, we know," Kate murmured as she cut Leyan’s lecture short.
"You better remember... See you guys later then."
"See ya."
With the closing, Leyan continued heading towards the kitchen, where she saw most of Xiaoyun’s wives were still eating breakfast.
"Yueyue, are you sure your information is accurate?" Yuqi questioned as she chewed on a piece of toast.
"I’m 50% sure. Regardless of whether it is accurate or not, the intent behind it is clearly suspicion from the way they’re acting."
"What are you two talking about?" Leyan asked curiously as she sat down before grabbing a piece of toast.
"Nothing. Ahem, I got to go."
Yueyue immediately got up from her seat, heading out with a peanut butter sandwich in her mouth as she headed straight for the door.
"Don’t you two have morning classes?"
"It’s not time yet—Oh snap!"
Both Nami and Lily quickly finished their last bit of noodles before rushing out of their seat, heading straight for the door just like Yueyue earlier.
But to everyone’s surprise, they both ran right back into the kitchen.
"Wuli, can you drive us to school?"
"Fine. Let me finish this sandwich first—"
"We can eat in the car."
As both of them carried Wuli out of her seat, she was forced to head out of the kitchen as they all let out a small chuckle.
"Yuqi, you aren’t going to your meeting early to prepare?"
"Xiaoyun is the one who’s calling for the meeting... My secretary got everything covered." Yuqi answered as she ate her noodles.
"I would be more careful if I were you. People always say that after a man is done with work, the secretary is next."
Tianci’s sudden comment made Yuqi’s face blush for a second, but she quickly returned to a calm look.
"He wouldn’t dare touch her."
"Now I think about it, Tianci got a point... We all thought that Lily was going to be the last one in the family."
Leyan’s comment immediately caused Yuqi to get up from her seat, her face looking a little uneasy for once.
"I’m done with my food. Tell Xiaoyun that I’m going to the meeting as well."
As Yuqi headed out of the kitchen and straight towards the living room, both Yueyue and Tianci looked over at Leyan with a suspicious look.
"Mom, why are you trying to get everyone out of the house?" Yueyue questioned.
"What? I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m just reminding them today is a Tuesday. A workday that needs them to head out."
Seeing Leyan’s face not flinching in the slightest, they returned empty-handed as they resumed eating their food.
"Tianci, when did you even learn to say that kind of stuff?" Leyan suddenly asked back as she thought back to the conversation earlier.
"Some of the coworkers said it."
Tianci answered as her face blushed a little, not wanting to admit she had actually heard it from the car radio.
"You talk about that kind of stuff in a lab?" Yueyue asked curiously.
"W-We were done with work. It was during lunch break." Tianci quickly clarified as she nearly stuttered at the start.
"I see..."
As the two of them kept eating their bowl of noodles, a figure finally emerged from upstairs and entered the kitchen in a suit.
"Took you long enough," Leyan murmured as she quickly got up to bring him a bowl of noodles from the stovetop.
"Had to make sure the suit was all ironed out. I haven’t worn this for quite a while now."
Just as Xiaoyun took a seat next to Tianci and accepted the bowl from Leyan, Yueyue suddenly got up from her seat.
"I’m full. Time to head out. See ya guys later."
"See ya."
With only three people left in the kitchen, Tianci herself soon left for work as well after finishing her food.
"See you guys."
"See ya."
Now with only two adults left in the house, Xiaoyun could feel the atmosphere getting slightly more tense than before.
"Why are you looking at me?"
"I just want to stare at my handsome husband’s face."
"Stop bootlicking me."
"I’m just saying the truth."
Xiaoyun didn’t say anything back as he quickly finished the food, getting up from his seat before heading over to the sink.
After putting the dirty bowl into the sink, he turned around, only to find Leyan standing right behind him.
"Honey..."
"Babe, have we not done enough last night? I really need to go prepare for my meeting later—"
"Are you really planning to prepare with this bulge of yours?"
As Leyan’s hand reached down to Xiaoyun’s crotch, something snapped in his brain as she whispered into his ear.
"Nobody is home..."
---
"What took you so long?"
As Yuqi questioned, Xiaoyun had finally arrived in her office. Just ten minutes before the meeting was about to start.
"I was preparing at home. Ahem, is everyone here yet?" Xiaoyun calmly answered as he carried a suitcase in his hand.
"They’re already in the meeting room. You want to go there now?"
"Sure."
The two of them quickly headed out of her office, stepping into the elevator before taking one floor down.
Next, they headed to the meeting room, where ten different people were already sitting there waiting for them.
"Good morning, everyone."
"Morning, Governor."
As Yuqi’s assistant closed the door, the meeting could officially start.
"Governor, what do you want to talk about today?" Liuqian immediately raised his question, as the meeting had come out of nowhere.
"I want to ask you all something... What do you think of the current housing system? More specifically, the land system."
Everyone in the meeting looked over at one another, seemingly to have an idea of their own. Yet nobody spoke up.
"Anyone want to volunteer? Share their opinion?"
After a short moment of silence, the head of the census department raised their hand before speaking up.
"Governor, a lot of people have been wondering when they will be able to buy a house. Just owning a place they can call home."
"That’s a good question, and that’s the exact reason I have you all here today... As you all know, the current system of permanent renting is a temporary solution."
Xiaoyun paused for a second, then continued.
"This temporary solution has outlived its usefulness... It would be great if you could collaborate on this, but the savings rate is nearly 60% per household, right?"
The head of the census department nodded her head.
"It’s 62% as of this reporting quarter."
"Even worse than I thought. Ahem, this savings rate is unsustainable. We need to get that money back into the flowing market."
"Why not just raise rent?" The head of the treasury department immediately questioned.
"If you want the savings rate to go higher, we can very well do that."
Xiaoyun’s answer made him fall silent. The treasurer quickly realized how naive he sounded saying it without thinking.
"To curb this over-saving crisis, I believe opening the sale of housing to citizens will drastically change how people are willing to dip into their savings.
Which is why I have you all here today. I want you all to develop a sophisticated plan to carry this idea out—"
"Governor, we own all of the houses... This would just give us the money rather than having the money go into the market."
As Muxie raised his concern, Xiaoyun couldn’t answer right away. This was the biggest concern he hadn’t thought of a solution for.
