She didn’t know how or why she still believed it.

After what had happened last night, no sane man—especially one so young, almost certainly a virgin, even possibly aided by drugs—should have possessed that much stamina. Yet the mysteries surrounding his very existence only deepened her conviction, and somehow, impossibly, she believed it still.

He had never broken a promise. Not once.

Her blue eyes lingered on his endless blue depths for another long moment before she let out a slow breath.

"...All right." The words surprised even her. "I believe you."

She laughed softly, shaking her head at herself. "I don’t even know why. I should probably be asking another dozen questions. I should probably insist on an explanation."

Another quiet laugh escaped her. "And yet... ...here I am."

Marvin brushed his thumb gently across the back of her hand.

"You’ve always trusted your instincts."

"I think that’s what you’re doing now."

Nicole rested her chin against his chest. "Maybe. Or maybe you’ve simply made me stop thinking everything."

She smiled to herself.

"That would be a first."

Silence settled between them again.

A small disappointment filled her. Somewhere deep within her, she wanted his child. Seeing her expression, Marvin rubbed her stomach as he spoke with a mischievous smile.

His expression turned playful. "No more worrying." He gave her a teasing smile. "We’ve got plenty of time ahead of us. I will surely fill this up in the future."

Nicole blinked. The meaning behind his words slowly dawned on her.

Color rushed into her cheeks. "You really do enjoy making me blush, don’t you?"

"A little."

She gave his chest a light, indignant tap. "You’re impossible."

"I’ve been told."

She tried to look annoyed, but the smile tugging at her lips ruined the performance almost immediately.

Instead of arguing, she simply settled against him again, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. But the thing was—she didn’t deny it when he spoke about filling her.

For someone who had spent years living beneath cameras, expectations, and carefully rehearsed smiles, the quiet felt almost unfamiliar.

She closed her eyes.

For the first time in a very long while, she wasn’t thinking about tomorrow’s headlines.

She was simply content to stay where she was.

Marvin smirked seeing that and gently stroked her hair as she lay on his chest.

He wasn’t lying when he spoke about the pregnancy.

His control over mana extended far beyond muscles and nerves. Every cell in his body existed beneath his awareness, he had near perfect control over his body. That control reached even the millions of sperm his body continuously produced. His physiology never truly rested. His body remained in a constant state of renewal, replacing them as quickly as they were spent, sustained by mana rather than ordinary biology, leaving his body in a perpetual state of peak fertility.

Before sperms ever leave his body, he subtly alters their physiology, rendering them incapable of penetrating an ovum while leaving them otherwise healthy and saturated with mana.

The mana didn’t disappear. Once inside a woman’s body, it dispersed through their cells, where it was gradually absorbed. It quietly energised cells, supported cellular repair, slowed the wear of time, and helped their body remain in its physical prime than nature alone would allow.

If he chose otherwise, he needed only a thought. The biochemical barrier would vanish, restoring their fertilizing capability. Even then, chance played no part. Long before conception, he could determine whether the successful cell carried which chromosome, deciding the outcome before the first cell of a new life has ever formed.

For now, though, he wasn’t ready to become a father. Last night, he had come dangerously close to making a different choice, he’d been really tempted to impregnate her. It was a dangerous thought that he’d almost fulfilled. He kissed her forehead as he spoke.

"You should get some more sleep," Marvin said softly. "After last night, you deserve it. I’ll make breakfast."

Nicole didn’t answer. She simply gave the smallest nod against his chest.

She already knew how good his cooking was. That was one of the first extraordinary somewhat normal things she’d discovered about him, hidden beneath all the extraordinary ones.

Marvin smiled. He brushed a kiss against her forehead before carefully easing himself out from beneath her. Even half asleep, her fingers instinctively caught his wrist for a moment before slowly slipping away.

He pulled the blanket back over her shoulders.

"Don’t disappear," she murmured, her eyes still closed.

"I’ll be downstairs."

Satisfied, she relaxed again.

Marvin slipped into the bathroom and turned on the shower.

By the time he stepped out, steam clung to the mirror. He reached for a towel, then paused.

A new toothbrush rested beside the sink.

Men’s toiletries sat neatly arranged beneath the mirror. His usual shampoo. His preferred body wash. Even the same brand of shaving cream.

His brow lifted for a moment before he simply chuckled.

Drying himself, he walked to the bedroom closet.

Inside, several neatly folded sets of men’s clothes filled one side of the wardrobe. Shirts. Trousers. Underwear. Socks. Even a pair of casual shoes. Every piece was his size, some of them still carrying their store tags.

He glanced over his shoulder at the bedroom. Their clothes from last night were still scattered across the floor, exactly where passion had left them.

He couldn’t help smiling.

She hadn’t bought those yesterday.

Nicole hadn’t rushed out to buy these after inviting him over. She’d prepared this place long before she’d ever found the courage to ask him inside.

Pulling on one of the fresh outfits, he quietly made his way downstairs.

The kitchen was already stocked with everything he needed.

Fresh vegetables. Fruit. Eggs. Cream. Butter. Several kinds of bread. Even the coffee beans had been freshly roasted.

Unlike the mansion in Beverly Hills, this place belonged only to her. It seems like she had planned this for a long time. Before executing yesterday’s attack, she had made this house to be used as a love nest for Marvin and herself. After all, she really couldn’t be as intimate as she wanted in the mansion, not with the staff watching and the life politics swirling.

Marvin rolled up his sleeves and got to work.

He sang a song as butter melted across the hot pan.

He whisked eggs with cream before soaking thick slices of brioche, baking them until the edges turned crisp and golden.

A light vegetable soup simmered beside them.

He mashed potatoes with butter and herbs until they became smooth.

Fresh oranges disappeared beneath the juicer, filling a glass pitcher with fragrant juice.

Each movement was calm and practiced.

Invisible strands of mana flowed from his fingertips into every dish, subtle enough that no one would ever notice, yet enough to leave the food tasting fresher, richer, strangely comforting, very tasty and very healthy.

Soon the kitchen filled with the warm scent of toasted bread, butter, citrus, and herbs.

He carried everything to the dining table and was placing the last plate down when he heard soft footsteps.

The bedroom door had opened. Nicole appeared in the hallway.

She had changed into a simple cream-colored one piece dress that fell just below her knees, her damp red hair loosely gathered behind her head in a bun. She looked rested despite the slight weariness still lingering in her eyes.

She moved carefully, one hand briefly touching the doorframe before continuing toward him.

When she reached the dining room, she leaned against the wall for a second and laughed at herself. "I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated flat floors this much."

Marvin looked up with amused concern. "Sore?"

Nicole gave him an innocent look. "You’re asking that with a completely straight face?"

He laughed. "I suppose I already know the answer."

"I think you do." She crossed the room a little more slowly than usual before stopping beside him.

The smell reached her first.

Her eyes widened. "Oh..."

She looked over the table before turning back to him. "You made all this?"

"It wasn’t much."

She gave him a look that clearly said she didn’t believe that for a second. "There are enough dishes here for six people."

"I wasn’t sure what you’d feel like eating."

Nicole smiled softly.

Even though he’d said that, the breakfast spread across the table was almost entirely made up of the kind she genuinely loved but rarely let herself eat. Years of modeling had turned every meal into a calculation. Calories. Carbohydrates. Sugar. Even butter had become something to avoid.

This morning, for the first time in a long while, she found herself wanting all of it. And somehow, she didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty.

Somehow, he’d gotten it exactly right.

None of the lavish gifts Tom had showered her with over the years had ever matched the quiet thoughtfulness of those simple words—or the realization that, somehow, he’d filled the table with everything she’d been craving without her having to say a single word.

She stepped closer, slipped both arms around his waist from behind, and rested her cheek lightly against his shoulder.

"You spoil me."

"I feed people."

"No," she whispered with a small smile. "You take care of people."

There was a difference. One filled a stomach. The other filled something much harder to satisfy.

For a long moment neither of them spoke.

The only sounds were the waves rolling against the distant shoreline and the faint crackle of butter still cooling in the pan.

Nicole finally drew a slow breath. "I could get used to mornings like this."

Marvin turned his head just enough to look at her. "That’s a dangerous thing to say."

"It probably is." She smiled anyway. "And yet..." Her fingers tightened around his hand. "...I don’t seem to mind."

For a moment neither of them spoke.

The morning sunlight poured through the wide kitchen windows, spilling across the wooden floor and warming the quiet room. Somewhere outside, gulls cried over the ocean. It should have felt awkward after everything that had happened between them.

Instead, it felt... comfortable. Nicole realized that was what unsettled her most. Silence had always been uncomfortable in her marriage. Someone eventually filled it with schedules, meetings, phone calls, or polite conversation.

With Marvin, silence never demanded anything.

It simply existed.

Eventually, the aroma emanating from the dining table intensified to a level that demanded attention.

She breathed in deeply, blinking before a smile spread across her face. "That smells wonderful."

Her eyes wandered over the breakfast waiting for them. "You’ve been busy."

Marvin looked over his shoulder with an easy smile. "I wanted to make something worth getting out of bed for."

Nicole laughed softly. "I think you succeeded."

She stepped closer, studying the table. "You’ve improved."

"I have." He set another plate down before looking at her. "I did put in a little extra effort."

"Oh?"

"I was hoping to impress my beautiful lover."

The words drew another soft smile from her.

She was already pressed close behind him, her head resting on his shoulder. She slipped both arms around his waist, holding him tighter, then turned her face just enough to brush a slow, tender kiss across his lips, eyes half-lidded, and brushed kiss across his mouth—warm, deliberate, her lips parting just enough to taste him, sweet and intimate, the kind of kiss that promised more.

"I’d say you’re doing a very good job."

"Then breakfast has already been a success."

She laughed again, lingering against him for another heartbeat before allowing him to guide her toward the table.

Marvin pulled out her chair first.

Nicole watched him with amused eyes. "No one’s done that for me in quite a while."

"You should expect better treatment."

"I’ll try not to get spoiled."

"I think it’s too late." She smiled as she sat down.

"I’m beginning to suspect you’re right." Marvin took the seat beside her instead of across from her.

Nicole noticed immediately. "I thought you’d sit over there."

"I’d rather sit here."

She pretended to consider it. "I suppose I’ll allow it."

He picked up the bowl of soup and filled a spoon before holding it toward her.

Nicole obediently leaned forward.

The first sip stopped her completely.

She closed her eyes.

The warmth spread through her body almost instantly. Every ingredient tasted fresh, balanced, comforting in a way she couldn’t quite explain. It wasn’t simply delicious.

It felt alive.

When she opened her eyes again, she stared at him in disbelief. "...Marvin."

He smiled. "Good?"

She slowly lowered the spoon. "I’ve eaten in Michelin-starred restaurants." She shook her head, almost laughing at herself. "I’ve had private chefs all over the world." Another small taste.
