Chapter 94: Running After the Woman Who Dumped Him
Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Running After the Woman Who Dumped Him
When the manager brought over the item, packed in its signature box, Nina Norton took it and handed it directly to Ian Sterling.
"Hold on to this."
Ian Sterling didn’t react, simply carrying the box as he followed behind Nina Norton.
As they browsed, Nina Norton said, "Back when your older brother was dating your sister-in-law, I gave her a custom-made bag. I just had another one custom-made abroad a few days ago. When it arrives, I want you to give it to Lynn Winslow for me. It’s a token of my affection."
Ian Sterling glanced at Nina Norton and gave a slight smile and a hum of acknowledgment. Just then, Nina happened to turn and see him. She scoffed in amusement. "Look at you. You’ve had a long face this whole time, but you crack a smile the moment I mention giving a bag to Lynn Winslow."
She sighed dramatically. "A grown son can’t be kept at home, I see."
"Whatever you want to buy today, Mom, it’s on me." Ian Sterling stepped forward to walk beside Nina Norton, a smile playing on his lips.
Nina Norton shook her head, her chin lifting slightly. "I don’t need you to pay. Save your money for your wife. I’m putting this on the company account today. They can go ask your father for the money."
Ian Sterling raised an eyebrow. Nina Norton grabbed his arm and lowered her voice. "Let me tell you something. The money a man earns is only for his wife to spend. For other women, like your mother, sisters, sisters-in-law, and aunts, you can spend a little on them occasionally. But when it comes to your wife, you need to have the right attitude—if you have a hundred dollars, you should be ready to spend ninety-nine of it on her. Got it?"
Ian Sterling nodded, one hand in his pocket. He was more than a head taller than Nina Norton, and as he leaned in slightly to listen to her, they looked to outsiders like a beautiful, wealthy woman out shopping with her boy toy. At least, that’s what the young girls currently buying necklaces in the store were thinking.
Having overheard their chatter, Ian Sterling frowned and casually called out, "Mom, that necklace is nice."
Nina Norton turned to look at the necklace Ian Sterling was pointing at, puzzled. "It’s alright, I guess. The pendant is too big for everyday wear. Son, is this really something you’d pick out?"
Ian Sterling glanced at the two girls out of the corner of his eye and saw their eyes widen in surprise. Satisfied, he looked away and said to Nina Norton, "Oh, I thought it was fine a second ago, but now that you mention it, it’s just so-so."
Nina Norton shot him a look as if he were an idiot, then turned back to browse the items she actually liked.
The two had lunch out, and then Nina Norton didn’t drag her son around shopping any longer. They returned to Aerie Garden together.
Ian Sterling went to his room for a short nap, then said goodbye to Nina Norton and headed back to Amberly Bay.
Ever since his injury, he had been moving his clothes to Amberly Bay bit by bit, like ants moving their home. Because of this, Lynn Winslow had been forced to clear out an entire closet for his things.
Mrs. Sterling knew he disliked having people wait on him even more than Lynn Winslow did. Ian Sterling had told her not to prepare his meals, so during the days Lynn was away, she only came over when Ian was out to bring the cleaning staff or to feed Kiki during the day. The rest of the time, she stayed next door.
He casually packed a few articles of clothing, figuring he could just buy anything else he needed when he got there. After packing, he picked up Kiki and played for a little while.
As night fell, Ian Sterling drove to the airport alone. Before leaving, he called Mrs. Sterling to let her know he was going to find Lynn Winslow and asked her to take good care of Kiki.
Mrs. Sterling was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled and wished him a safe journey.
Ian Sterling parked his car and went to the VIP lounge, only to run into Liam Clayton and his assistant at the entrance.
He narrowed his eyes, intending to pretend he hadn’t seen him, but Liam Clayton spoke first. "Finn, where are you off to? You don’t even have an assistant with you."
Ian Sterling glanced at him sideways and retorted, "And where are you going?"
Liam Clayton remained expressionless. "To Yarnia on a business trip," he said faintly.
"Oh." Ian Sterling looked away and said nonchalantly, "To Morelia."
Liam Clayton glanced down at his watch. He had learned from his sister, Chloe Clayton, that Lynn Winslow had returned to Morelia to visit Elder Winslow, so he wasn’t surprised to hear that Ian Sterling was headed there now.
The two went their separate ways upon entering the lounge. The assistant, following behind Liam Clayton, had been navigating the business world at Liam’s side for many years and was naturally well-versed in the goings-on of Quartos. He said softly, "Mr. Clayton, this Finn Sterling is really something else."
Liam Clayton asked with a detached expression, "How so?"
"The young masters from other families all have women chasing after them, but Finn of the Sterling Family chases after a woman." The assistant smiled. "And it’s a woman who dumped him three years ago."
"It’s not that he’s different, it’s that the woman is different." Liam Clayton glanced back at Ian Sterling, a slight smile tugging at his lips as he continued, "That woman... is very special."
The undisguised interest in his tone made the assistant’s heart skip a beat. He lowered his gaze and said no more, but inside, his heart was pounding.
’If Liam Clayton was the person who understood himself best in this world, then I must be the second.’
’Liam Clayton is brazenly showing his interest in Mr. Sterling’s woman. If Mr. Sterling finds out... he’s not exactly a gentle soul. Quartos would be turned upside down.’
The first thing Ian Sterling did after boarding the plane was message Lynn Winslow. She was still lazing in bed playing on her phone. When she saw his message, she replied with an "OK" emoji and checked his arrival time in Morelia. It would be close to midnight tonight.
She got up and went downstairs, where Joel Winslow and Elder Winslow were playing chess. Seeing her, Elder Winslow asked with a broad smile, "Are you hungry? I’ll have the butler prepare breakfast for you."
Lynn Winslow shook her head and sat down beside them to watch the game.
Joel Winslow hadn’t been to work since Lynn Winslow returned, staying home on standby in case she wanted to go out and needed someone to accompany her.
Lynn Winslow watched the game for a moment, then suddenly said, "Ian Sterling is arriving at the Morelia airport at eleven tonight."
Elder Winslow and Joel Winslow froze, both turning to look at Lynn Winslow at the same time.
"I’ll go with you to pick him up, Sis." Joel Winslow was the first to react. "Are you having him stay here, or should we book a hotel?"
Lynn Winslow looked at Elder Winslow, her lips curling into a smile as she asked, "Grandpa, what do you think?"
Elder Winslow didn’t want some punk, especially one with designs on his precious granddaughter, staying at Winslow Manor. But his granddaughter’s expression clearly showed she wanted him to agree.
He gave a sullen grunt of assent. Lynn Winslow’s eyes curved into a smile, and she called for the butler, telling him to prepare the guest room next to hers.
The butler didn’t hesitate, immediately taking staff to prepare the room. After all, he knew better than anyone that in Winslow Manor, the Young Miss was the one with the final say.
Her objective achieved, Lynn Winslow stretched lazily, changed into her swimsuit, and went for a swim in the pool. After Joel Winslow and Elder Winslow finished their chess game, Joel brought a platter of fruit and some red wine out to the poolside.
When Lynn Winslow climbed out of the water and wrapped herself in a robe, he said with a smile, "You’ve only been back a few days, Sis, and Finn already can’t wait to come find you."
Lynn Winslow smiled but didn’t answer, simply taking a sip of red wine and reclining on the lounge chair.
Joel Winslow stared, his gaze fixed on the water that had splashed onto the poolside when Lynn emerged, a dark and inscrutable look in his eyes.
