Chapter 2228 - 2231: Sheng Sheng Makes a Big Fuss 4

Sheng Sheng’s mind grew increasingly unable to shake off the bitterness and woes inside him. After a brief rest, he got up again, running along the basketball court, lap after lap. It was only by exhausting his energy in the rain that he could somewhat empty his mind.

...

Inside the house, Maimai had cried to the point her tears dried up, yet she hadn’t budged an inch, continuously hugging herself, her head buried, tears streaming down in strings!

She felt unbearable, as if abandoned by someone.

The fiercer Brother Sheng Sheng was just now, the more heartbroken she felt.

Where did he go?

She didn’t have the mind to care!

She should leave this hellish place immediately, this mess of a place, but her whole body felt exhausted and trembling, unable to move, let alone walk!

The thunder outside grew louder and louder; she didn’t want to go out and risk the cold.

After a long, long time, it seemed she had cried herself out and fell asleep!

...

A long, long time later, near the residential area, Sheng Sheng apparently ran himself to exhaustion too, no longer able to summon any strength, and he fell asleep lying on the soaked grass!

Regardless of how stormy the world was, both chose sleep as a refuge, deeply mending themselves in slumber.

...

Rumble! Rumble!

A thunderclap jolted Maimai awake, her eyes opened wide, and she rubbed them, instinctively muttering, "Sheng Sheng, I’m scared!"

She was afraid of thunder, yearning for him to soothe and hold her.

Once her mind cleared, she gradually recalled her spat with Sheng Sheng, leading him to smash everything at home in a rage before slamming the door and leaving. Apart from herself, the house was left with only a wrecked living room.

After a nap, Maimai felt much calmer. She took out her phone to check the time, finding she had slept for nearly three hours. The sky had turned dark, it was evening, and the room was already dim.

Maimai stood up, cautiously skirted past the wreckage on the floor, and ran to the wall to turn on the light.

Standing alone there for a long while, unsure what to do.

Finally, she picked up a broom and dustpan, squatted down, and started cleaning the living room.

The floor was covered with shards of glass and spilled red wine. Maimai picked up the pieces carefully, tears falling continuously, distraught, wronged, discomforted, uneasy, her heart unable to settle.

"Ah!"

Inadvertently, while picking up glass, she accidentally cut her finger, blood immediately trickled out. Though not serious, she had never suffered such pain, and hugging her knees, Maimai started sobbing again.

"You bastard, you bastard, you really are a bastard!"

"How could you be so fierce, smashing things like that, getting so angry?"

"I... I was just... just upset. You provoked me first, meddling in this and that. That’s why in a fit of anger I talked about breaking up. It was just in the heat of the moment. You were so fierce, so angry, you... sob... sob..."

Maimai complained while sucking her finger, sucking the blood dry, and continued picking up the glass shards.

She had never done chores before yet spent a full two hours picking up all the shards on the ground, doing it meticulously as if proving a point to someone. She piled the shards into a plastic bag and tossed it by the door, then began mopping the floor. She didn’t know how to mop, making the floor wetter and wetter, leaving everything damp. But she wouldn’t stop; doing something kept her from sinking entirely into sadness, shifting her focus.
