This woman is insane.

That was the unanimous thought running through the minds of several students.

They had expected their first year at Golden Dawn Academy to be challenging. After all, they had worked hard to secure admission to one of humanity’s most prestigious academies.

But nobody had expected their homeroom teacher to treat them like disposable tools.

Twenty students had already been removed from Class A before their first day of proper classes had even begun!

"Now then let’s move on to the next point." Yuki said quickly moving on without bothering to give anymore explanation.

"Your rankings matters, the higher the ranking the more benefits you will get. Students belonging to same class can challenge each other in Ranking matches in the presence of their homeroom teacher.

If the winner is ranked lower than before, He will automatically take the rank of the loser and the loser will be pushed down by one rank. If the winner is still the one ranked higher, the loser will not be able to challenge them again for one month. The top 3 rankers can learn any skill they desire. The lower the rank, the lower the level of weapon art and skills you will be given access to."

"Fuck! It means I’m at the bottom here." Lucas cursed under his breath as realisation settled upon him.

"It’s all because of those 20 incompetent students that I’m at bottom ranking right now."

’Idiot.’

Lorenzo glanced him for a moment before looking back to Yuki.

"Now then it’s time to choose the class president of class A.... Let’s don’t bother with useless voting.. I’ll make your job easy by choosing them myself."

Yuki said as she moveyher gaze through Joseph, Alex, Lilly, Jhon, Alice and many more students before stelled on Lorenzo.

’I have bad feeling about this.’

"Cadet Lorenzo...?"

’Fuck.’

"Yes."

"You should be class president."

"Yes?"

"Why? You don’t want to do it?"

Yuki asks, looking at me with a sneer.

"Do you?"

’Crazy bitch.’

I let out a sigh and said.

"Well, I should at least get nominated, there might be someone else who wants to be class president."

"What? I just want you to do it."

’You’re trying to make me class president just for that reason?’

For my plan, I should never be class president, so I decided to decline the position for now.

"Sorry──"

"I’ll do it."

Just as I was about to reject Yuki offer, Sunny Blackstar, who was sitting in the front seat, raised his hand and declared his candidacy.

"Oh, yes, Sunny Blackstar. You’re going to be class president?"

"Yes. I’d like to run."

"Really?"

After saying that, Yuki stares at me but I look out the window to avoid her gaze.

"Well...Since Lorenzo doesn’t want to do it, is there anyone besides Sunny who wants to be a candidate?"

No one raises their hand this time. In response, Yuki pulled a notebook out of her pocket and began to scribble.

"Class president is Sunny Blackstar. The vice president is... Hmm, should I get a nomination for that too?"

"I’ll do it."

"Huh?"

Yuki looks at me with a puzzled expression.

"You didn’t want to be class president, did you?"

"Vice class president is different, isn’t it?"

"Huh, you’re a funny bastard, aren’t you?"

Yuki glares at me with sharp eyes.

I smiled at Professor Yuki.

"What’s wrong with that, Professor? I simply believe that every class needs a capable vice president."

"Then why didn’t you want to become the class president?"

"Because I believe Sunny Blackstar is more suitable for the position."

Sunny, who had been sitting quietly at the front of the classroom, turned his head and glanced at me.

Our eyes met for a brief moment.

Then he looked away.

’This guy really doesn’t care about anything, does he?’

I couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

Still, that was precisely why I had chosen him.

Sunny Blackstar was strong, mysterious, and apparently uninterested in unnecessary social interactions. He had swum across the freezing waters of Antarctica without suffering any apparent injuries, and he had finished second in our survival exercise.

More importantly, he didn’t seem like the kind of person who would constantly bother me with trivial matters.

If I became the vice president, I could enjoy some of the benefits of the position without having to deal with all the responsibilities of being class president.

It was a win-win situation.

At least, that was what I thought.

"You’re really something, Lorenzo."

Professor Yuki narrowed her eyes.

"First, you refuse to become class president. Then, the moment someone else volunteers, you suddenly decide that you want to be vice president."

She leaned against the teacher’s desk and grinned.

"Are you trying to avoid responsibility, or are you simply looking for a convenient position?"

"Both, if possible."

In fact, I applied for the position of class vice-president instead of class president for two reasons.

The first is that, unlike a class president, a vice president doesn’t have to go to school events.

The second was that the vice president could wield power as an officer of the class without being dragged to events, and could easily access meetings and events that only the president and vice president had access to.

...And third — I wanted to know more about Sunny. He’s a full of mystery and if possible I like to recruit him as an member of my organisation.

That was my main reason.

Professor Yuki’s smile twitched.

"...You could at least pretend to be more ambitious."

"Would that improve my chances of getting the position?"

"No!"

"Then I don’t see the point."

Someone in the back of the classroom snorted.

I glanced over and noticed Lilly Ashfaq covering her mouth, seemingly struggling to suppress her laughter.

"Fine! Since you’re so eager to become vice president, I’ll grant your wish!"

She scribbled something into her notebook.

"Sunny Blackstar will be the class president, and Lorenzo will be the vice president!"

"Now then, that’s settled!" Yuki clapped her hands. "Let’s move on to the next topic."

She turned toward the blackboard and wrote several words.

Mana Control.

"This will be the primary subject I’ll teach you throughout your first year. As Awakeners, you should already understand that mana is the foundation of almost everything you do."

She turned back to face us.

"Your physical abilities, skills, weapon arts, and even certain bloodline abilities depend on how effectively you can manipulate mana. However, many Awakeners make the mistake of focusing exclusively on increasing their mana capacity."

Yuki tapped the blackboard.

"Having a large mana reserve doesn’t necessarily make you stronger. If you can’t control the mana inside your body, you’ll waste energy, struggle to activate your abilities, and exhaust yourself far more quickly than necessary."

Several students nodded.

It was basic knowledge, but knowing something and applying it in actual combat were two entirely different matters.

I knew that better than most.

My [Axe of Slaughter] consumed considerable mana, and its special effect, [Slaughter Instinct], placed additional strain on my body the longer I fought.

Without sufficient mana control, using the weapon art against stronger opponents would be little more than an elaborate way to commit suicide.

’I should pay attention to this class.’

...And just like that, My Academy life officially started.
